hi, i have a questions i hope somebody can answer. do blind from birth people dream with colour? they have never seen colour right so do they dream black and white? sorry for using your comment but im really curious !
I wouldn't say patronizing. She doesn't know what it's like to be blind so she probably has that tone of voice to try and reassure and make people feel comfortable and safe.
she's probably more used to doing these guides with children and by habit that tone of voice probably comes into play when she's explaining about the sea creatures
Men either find our voices naggy or like we are trying to please kids. I don't get it. This is how I'd talk to anyone if I was explaining biology of fish to someone. Blind or sighted. How is she supposed to talk?
I'm a male, but I've read so many comments online about how annoying somebody's voice is (actress or youtuber). Whether it's tone or inflections. Almost 90% of the time, it's a female voice. For me, I almost never agree.
+John Cavanaugh lmao my thoughts exactly. What easier way to make your subscriber base believe you're a good person than to leave a comment for all of them to see, saying how much you like a blind guy's videos
Unlike you, I dont have to try to get people to like me with such low tactics. I have a deaf little brother, I must hang out with him only to get people to like me right? People like you are sad.
If it gradually got more and more clear it would be feasible. Start off only seeing giant blurry colored dots to making out plain shapes to those shapes gaining detail and sub lines to those just getting more clear in general. Thing is, his depth is only about 2 feet to 6 feet around him at all times. If he could see distance, it'd be like getting a 1000 ft pole that collapses in on itself when he'd hit a wall or object that is obstructing its path to then adjust to the physical obstruction. Some say people go crazy when they can see for the first time, I think it would just come naturally and he would have guess what things were based on how people described it to him and learn words for the new found sensations.
Lin Sams, Im sure he appreciates your sentiment, but its not necessary.. You seem to feel sorry for Tommy, but i feel like you are totally missing the point of his videos. He has more ability than disability in life. His blindness, a disability, gives him a wide range of Abilities. He is not as discriminative/judgmental and seems to be more patient and appreciative of others. See his video on Racism. Don't feel sorry for him at all, be envious of his ability to live.
I think it’s his innocent fascination with the world that draws me to this guy. He’s not so down about the world he’s missing and instead explores it however he’s able. It’s so cute!
This video made me wonder, do you get scared of spiders? A lot of fears seem to be visually based, my guess your fears are more audio based, so what scares you like spiders or clowns scare sighted people.
Did you watch the vid? He got scared of a unfamiliar touch when the crab moved. Obviously he would be freaked by the similar touch of a spider. If anything blind people are more scared than people with vision because its a constant wonder if they can be in danger with anything their unfamiliar with unlike us we can tell if something is scary by looking at it but when we can't see it, we get horrified.
@ anyone who said the guide was patronizing or treated him like a child, she mentioned having kids come, telling them facts, and them having field trips there, so she's probably used showing kids around and having to explain things a little more simply, and likely didn't realize she was talking to him like she talked to the children.
I'm amazed by how well she explains the animals without having anything based on how they look. for instance, I'd have forgotten to mention that the seastar is called that way because of its five legs, and how that mirrors the way kids draw stars. I love that!
I think my goal in life is to be as excited as him about everything. I want to see all the beauty about everything You are such a beautiful human. I love how calm and sweet and funny and nice you are. You are so smart and creative and i would love to meet you one day. You truly are an amazing person and I would love for everyone to learn from you. The world is so judgemental about how people look. I would love for everyone to see the world through your eyes (metaphorically and literally) and experience it how you do, to truly understand how amazing the world is and how little looks actually mean.
Tommy is like the teacher that I always wanted but never had. His enthusiasm is contagious and he enriches the lives of anyone lucky enough to know the man. The world would be much better if there were more people like him
disappointing comments. if a blind person can cross a street I'm pretty sure they can go underwater. not hard to fix hand signals. when I touch your head tell me you are OK by putting your left arm forward.....it's more complex than that obviously but there are a million options to make it as safe if not safer
+Fin H oh god. No, no the diver would have to be very very experienced. Diving isn't something to mess around. It is not like crossing the street😂😂 You have to constantly check your surroundings, WATCH out for yourself and tubes, your gauges, and actually act as a life guard for your other diver. Being blind and diving would be extremely difficult. you cant just substitute hand gestures for touching because the other diver would need to constantly be close to him to be able to touch and what not.
+merlinthegray Its called telling it how it is. He wouldn't be able to see the hand gestures and you would partially have to 'baby sit' him underwater. Sure it's possible, but probably in a VERY controlled environment.
This channel is amazing. It makes me try to experience things in different ways. It challenges my understanding. Plus it always brings me joy! Thank you!
Hey I got a question. Have you and a deaf person tried to communicate? They can see you buy they can't hear you and you can hear them but you can't see them. If they try sign language you won't be able to know what they are saying and if you speak they won't hear you. I'm just curious as to how you guys would communicate.

I'd imagine describing how something looks while being blind since birth would be really difficult.
Yes but I saw a video of a girl who has been blind since birth describing how she imagined the characters from Wizard of Oz to look like.
Good idea . Im thinking about something like Ed edd and edy , courage the cowardly dog , scooby doo or who knows , just some of ny examples

A sea cucumber isn't a cucumber, why did they change starfish and not that?
A sea cucumber at least resembles a cucumber.
A starfish resembles a fish more than a sea cucumber resembles a cucumber. At least a starfish and fish are in the same kingdom.

Also because sea cucumbers were never called cucumberfish to begin with.
