I could not get that line through the hole to save my life except to take the thing apart. And yes, I didn't know it just pulled apart until it suddenly came apart in my hands.
You pretty much just pull on the twist part and it will come apart. I didn’t think I needed to show that part. If you have a good new cable that is not fretting on the end you shouldn’t need to take it apart to get a new cable installed through it anyway.
THERE IS A LITTE HOLE ON THE DOWNSIDE OF THE RUBBER-GRIP, ABSOLUTELY NO NEED TO OPEN ALL THE SHIFTER ! Just open the cable at the derailleur and push the cable out ! Thank me later.
I’m sure you didn’t make it clear through this video and I don’t blame you, but if you watch to the very end I show how it should just slide right out without taking it apart. Only reason to take it apart is if your cable doesn’t want go back through it and catching in there.
THANK YOU! I never would have figured this out without this video.

If you still have trouble getting the cable through, try bending the last 3/4 inch about 30 degrees. This did the trick for me. Thanks for the video!
Thank you for posting. It's a PITA ain't it?
Pain in the but to watch his video 😮
Good video, wish I could have seen you take it apart initially.

holy crap that indicator is a PITA to get back in (and stay on.)
I know the first time I took it apart I was thinking I may have to buy a new one.
