I will say I stopped your first reaction before it even got to the show title because I was SO shocked at how you were reacting to it and how different it was from my own experience! I'm glad I came back for episode 2 though as I think you're now seeing those really authentic moments of representation as you mentioned. :)
As a gay person I searched am I bisexual quite a lot. It's strange how quick we are to question everything and not just be fluid and honest. I consider myself gay but I did have a crush on a girl I knew years ago and we actually kissed. It's very weird. I'd never been attracted to someone of the opposite gender before but I really fell for just her
honestly that whole buzzfeed quiz google search thing was some of the most accurate stuff I've ever seen, I'm demi and you better believe I did a million quizzes about the ace spectrum to find the label I use at this point (esp bc I've never been in a relationship so it was kinda hard to tell if I'm just ace or somewhere else along that line lol), I have a group of friends who identify as bi, gay or queer and we've ALL done this xD my straight friends watching this were like - this is kinda weird why would an internet quiz tell you anything valid and I was like yeah but see everyone did this anyway, it's super accurate portrayal actually haha
When I first saw Nick searching up the am I gay quiz I felt so called out lmao I remember being 14 and furiously searching all the definitions of every sexual orientation looking for the one that fit me the most
I feel like the level of intimacy is perfect for their age... In the story Nick is 15 and Charlie is 14. So I feel like it's sweet and appropriate, because honestly they're babies.
Well this occurs over books 1-2 so while initially their ages are 14-15, during the TV series, we know Charlie turns 15, making Nick 16. So it's safe to say it takes place while they are 14-16.
Nick is 16 here; he turns 17 in September at the start of the next school year. I don't know exactly how admissions work in the UK but I gather that Nick is one of the older boys in his year, and Charlie (who turns 15 in late April) is one of the youngest in his.

I think it’s more sweet than “cheesy.” There’s something warm and pure that is rarely seen in regards to LGBTQ+ where it ends in tragedy or there’s a greater emphasis on the idea that it’s “hell” grappling with your feelings and how you’re perceived. The series is giving a blossoming romance, but not devoid of certain realities that still exist like homophobia, bullying, low-self esteem. Rather, giving some hope (not Ben Hope lol) to these characters and having it be front and center than being some supporting characters who’s only purpose is the tick off some diversity quota of LGBTQ+ representation. It IS a story worth watching unfold 😉.

Yes, before the internet, we DID repress it for 10 years and then come out at uni. Before google, before streaming video platforms, before e-books, access to information about being LGBTQ+ was very limited. Queer representation was very limited. The fact that Google exists, the internet exists, and shows like this exist now, though, makes me very happy and hopeful for the young LGBTQ+ people who are growing up today with access to resources we never had.
I definitely clicked on ‘Am I Gay?’ quizzes when I was a teenager, still discovering who I was, even if I knew the answer. It was a confusing time and (in hindsight) it was a good way for me to process how I felt being told I was gay by something else - rather than just having my inner self screaming at me the same answer for so long. There it was! It was in writing. While it was obvious who I was anyway, I had to find ways to accept it. It sounds a little dramatic, but what closeted gay teen isn’t? Any exposure to the LGBTQ+ community I could find that was - for the most part - positive, I would watch or read up on. So, while I know and knew then that these quizzes aren’t always exactly accurate and are tailored to what you want or expect to hear, they helped me towards that “eureka” moment and my acceptance of who I was.
Just an FYI in real life, Joe Locke (Charlie) and Sebastian Croft (Ben, the one you hate) are best friends from the show. As much as we all love to hate the villains, remember to applaud for the actors portraying them. The reason you hate Ben so much is because Sebastian knew exactly how to present the role to evoke those visceral reactions from the audience. Truly great villain roles reward their actors with hatred, not applause. A single word of support for those actors on a channel like this goes a long, long way. [Not so subtle hint. ;) Why yes, I did play a villain in my high school musical senior year, how did you guess? The nazi in Cabaret is not a role you get any applause from, generally speaking.]
I personally am very much enjoying your honest commentary. Also, Tori is amazingly sass, and you will like the next episode even more than this one. Edit: also, while this storyline later on does something that will forever keep this show in a special place in my heart, it still is so cute and innocent that it is a bit unrealistic, and since that is how you feel, I really think you should watch Skam if you haven’t seen it. (All of it is good but Season 3 in particular you will like, and it can stand alone.)
There are so many Easter eggs hidden in every episode lol. Notice the when Elle is watching Tara and Darcy in the montage they were playing girls by girl in red. Followed by Darcy saying they are best gal pals. the sound track is generally pretty amazing for the whole show. I almost forgot now blatant Tara's Instagram was about her and Darcy being together.

You need not apologize for reacting honestly (it's what we enjoy most about your videos ) but appreciate that you get why Heartstopper means so much to so many. *Cannot wait for you to experience episode 3!!! Especially. I didn't have Internet but get how maybe it is a place for younger people to look there when their doubts and questions eclipse everything. That teacher, Mr. Ajayi, is everything! I feel like this show has helped to heal a lot of trauma Queer people felt in school, and validate the way they struggled with things. At least for everyone ive talked to, its an idealised version of romance and acceptance, while still having realism in it. And its a breath of fresh air that we have started getting more LGBTQ+ representation (and honestly straight representation) that isnt toxic and unhealthy, and overly sexual.

The scene when Nick almost grabs Charlie's hand triggered me. I remember when I was in a somewhat similar situation when I was younger and the sparks flying felt SOOO accurate to how the heat of their hand hits your palm. ✋️✨️🖐 I do have to say, I cringed when Charlie's drumming in NO WAY matched the sound of the drumming we heard! 😱😂😂 (I forgive them though!)

I think what I enjoy about this show is that the show is grounded in realism, even with some of it being idealistic to what some of us may not have experienced in years gone past.
Maybe because I’m a bit younger and was a lot more confused about my sexuality in the beginning, but I 100% did those gay quizzes. And that was about 7-8 years ago now.
If their life experiences were even vaguely like mine, the cynicalness/jadedness comes from living similar experiences to Charlie but having them end badly. I absolutely *love* this show for being sweet and hopeful, but most people will not have this experience. Teenagers generally do not behave this maturely. At that age, there are a lot more Bens and Harrys in the world than Nicks. And this is coming from someone who somehow found a Nick after college.

You're right... I came out after uni... I was 23... in 1993! It was such an exciting time though! First visit to The Nightingale in Birmingham was electric! Heartstopper is perfect.
I am so glad to see you enjoying it more. While I lived nearly all my life in America, my parents were both Hong Kong Brits and it brings me such joy to see the fella on the right drinking a cup of tea each episode. I hope at some point, there will be an episode of you two reflecting on this watch through after the fact and some time in the future.
I’ve heard one review bring it up. There is definitely some similarities in the main characters’ interaction and the hesitation and sweetness within it.
About the gay-baiting comment… I agree somewhat, but we also have to think about what it would mean to be representing people who are really just questioning but eventually figure out they AREN’T queer. A lot people go through that process only to find out they aren’t queer but you really don’t see that much representation on it, likely because it would be seen as gay-bait. But I still feel it’s important to represent that process, because that can sometimes be just as difficult as finding out you’re queer.
It is amazing. My favourite parts are pretty much the whole thing and things I can't tell you about because they would be spoilers. The next episode is great. I want to watch you react to it. And then the 5 after that. Alex is looking even more stunning than usual.

I like that Tori say she doesn’t think ‘he’s straight’ because as someone who is bi/pansexual being thrown into Gay or straight categories based off who we like in that moment can be disheartening and deeply erasing. It’s a more inclusive way to allow others to question themselves that isn’t only gay or straight.
It's a show that gets better and better and is incredible. Also I did the quiz for my sexuality when I was in my late teens... I wish I did not suppress those feelings...

I know a lot of people relate to googling am I gay, but I wonder if it is even slightly more common for queer/pan/bi. I know I was more interested in internet research because I knew I liked girls, but realizing I liked guys also threw me as I assumed it was either gay or straight. (Small spoiler) But Nick also did not seems to know that bisexual was a thing as well so I relate to that.
I did the "am I gay quiz" as a baby bisexual. I didn't fully have a source to talk about it with people in my life. I grew up mormon, so thats a no-no.
What do I think? Well I think you two are super fun to watch, and you're probably super fun to hang out with. I don't even like reaction videos because I rarely watch any kind of TV type show, but I'm obsessed with Heartstopper so this happened.... and now (after about viewing around 20 different channels) you're the only reaction channel I have ever subscribed to. ok y'all in the comments need to chill, this is a REACTION they're allowed to have opinions number one, number two its not like they're being hateful or disrespectful in any way?? i personally LOVE heartstopper and have watched it like 4 times through, but i do agree that some parts are painfully cheesy - that's part of what makes it so positive and happy. there honestly isn't enough romcom cheesy lgbtq media, and the fact that heartstopper manages to be that while also touching on more serious topics is part of what makes it such an incredible series (which, by the way, they also acknowledge!!!). i could understand some of the criticism from the first video however i didn't think you were that harsh lmao maybe some of the comments didn't bother finishing the video before writing what they did but i like how you guys can find things cute but also laugh about it too lol bc some of it is silly and corny and cute and that's fun! we love to see it! anyways cannot wait for episode 3!

I feel like this show has helped to heal a lot of trauma Queer people felt in school, and validate the way they struggled with things. At least for everyone ive talked to, its an idealised version of romance and acceptance, while still having realism in it. And its a breath of fresh air that we have started getting more LGBTQ+ representation (and honestly straight representation) that isnt toxic and unhealthy, and overly sexual.

The scene when Nick almost grabs Charlie's hand triggered me. I remember when I was in a somewhat similar situation when I was younger and the sparks flying felt SOOO accurate to how the heat of their hand hits your palm. ✋️✨️🖐
I do have to say, I cringed when Charlie's drumming in NO WAY matched the sound of the drumming we heard! 😱😂😂 (I forgive them though!)

I think what I enjoy about this show is that the show is grounded in realism, even with some of it being idealistic to what some of us may not have experienced in years gone past.

Maybe because I’m a bit younger and was a lot more confused about my sexuality in the beginning, but I 100% did those gay quizzes. And that was about 7-8 years ago now.

Cynical and jaded but endearing
If their life experiences were even vaguely like mine, the cynicalness/jadedness comes from living similar experiences to Charlie but having them end badly. I absolutely *love* this show for being sweet and hopeful, but most people will not have this experience. Teenagers generally do not behave this maturely. At that age, there are a lot more Bens and Harrys in the world than Nicks. And this is coming from someone who somehow found a Nick after college.

While I lived nearly all my life in America, my parents were both Hong Kong Brits and it brings me such joy to see the fella on the right drinking a cup of tea each episode. I love Heartstopper but no one is mentioning how it parallels Beautiful Thing from the 90s
I’ve heard one review bring it up. There is definitely some similarities in the main characters’ interaction and the hesitation and sweetness within it.
About the gay-baiting comment… I agree somewhat, but we also have to think about what it would mean to be representing people who are really just questioning but eventually figure out they AREN’T queer. A lot people go through that process only to find out they aren’t queer but you really don’t see that much representation on it, likely because it would be seen as gay-bait. But I still feel it’s important to represent that process, because that can sometimes be just as difficult as finding out you’re queer.

I like that Tori say she doesn’t think ‘he’s straight’ because as someone who is bi/pansexual being thrown into Gay or straight categories based off who we like in that moment can be disheartening and deeply erasing. It’s a more inclusive way to allow others to question themselves that isn’t only gay or straight.
It's a show that gets better and better and is incredible.
Also I did the quiz for my sexuality when I was in my late teens... I wish I did not suppress those feelings...

I know a lot of people relate to googling am I gay, but I wonder if it is even slightly more common for queer/pan/bi. I know I was more interested in internet research because I knew I liked girls, but realizing I liked guys also threw me as I assumed it was either gay or straight. (Small spoiler) But Nick also did not seems to know that bisexual was a thing as well so I relate to that.

ok y'all in the comments need to chill, this is a REACTION they're allowed to have opinions number one, number two its not like they're being hateful or disrespectful in any way?? i personally LOVE heartstopper and have watched it like 4 times through, but i do agree that some parts are painfully cheesy - that's part of what makes it so positive and happy. there honestly isn't enough romcom cheesy lgbtq media, and the fact that heartstopper manages to be that while also touching on more serious topics is part of what makes it such an incredible series (which, by the way, they also acknowledge!!!). Please stop being mad at someone for having a reaction in a reaction video. if you didn't want to see that then don't watch reaction videos. it's that simple.
