- In this episode, Oz Noy discusses the influence of Wes Montgomery, plays Albert King, contemplates Paul Gilbert’s instructional videos, flips over our V, and tells us how he is not a shredder.
These sessions help keep the music alive by helping the Songbirds Foundation raise money to buy guitars for kids…check out our website to find out more- songbirdsfoundation.org.
Oz plays a beautiful Aqua (one off) 1957 Fender Stratocaster, 1967 Gibson ES-330 TD, 1963 Gibson ES-355 TD, and a 1958 Gibson Flying V on display at the Songbirds Guitar Museum in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Thanks to our sponsors- The Riverview Foundation, Schillhahn-Huskey Foundation, GHS Strings, and Todd Sharp Amplifiers. Special thanks to John Dooley for the great video work.
WE HAVE SOME BIG SESSIONS COMING SOON: The Steel Woods, Todd Sharpe, John Paul White, Parker Millsap, and more Moon River Sessions. Subscribe for more!
4:46 "You can't really practice on it comfortably".
5:00 "It's actually feels really comfortable to play on".
As someone who has a V with a 58 neck profile, I second that notion.
I love watching a pro get blown away like that! There was a definite connection with that beautiful V.
Watch Jack Pierson play it!
There are so many great players out there. Wonderful how they can bring out the unique characteristics of these guitars...
2:00 *Grabs imaginary whammy bar*
haha i was just about to comment. this happens to me so much
Either that or I he was flexing the neck joint for that subtle tremolo you can hear, you can see him really lever his forearm into the guitar, like Ted Greene, Lenny Breau etc.
I like his jazz playing!
He was riffing on Wes Montgomery's "Twisted Blues."
5:49 on is some of the coolest playing I’ve heard in awhile
Yeah V Power at it's finest !!! This One sings with the right player as we see and hear !!!
That was great! Loved Oz’s reactions to the Flying V 😎
"Can you do a video for my phone?" - OZ we just saw you play some out there licks on an out there guitar! Thanks for the treats! Jeff
The jazzy "Satch"...Satch jazzy... Great musician , Hello from France !
He's so cool, funny guy.
Great player.
Wish my mistakes sounded that good...😟
Saw this dude at the baked potato with Dennis Chambers. SO GOOD
You can’t practice on it or gig with it, but you can just play it with incredible tones? So what’s the problem with practicing on it and gigging with it? I have a Gibson V that is one of my go to instruments and it sounds and plays really good. All the time.
Love this v , it sounds amazing and some... korina and brazilian boards are the best tone woods in the world... this looks just like the Rick Vito flying v with double pickguards . He bought it and the matching explorer , check those beauty's out.......m
monster sound with the flying v
He should have played the 1963 ES335 more, that was the standout for me...
"Ohh can you do a video from my phone?" lovely guitar geek...
I know someone who owns one of those V's... He bought it a long time ago for next to nothing, and it's everything that Oz said about it. And no, he's never selling it!!
String thru body and the korina wood thats the v difference and wow! When you cant put the guitar down , thats the one for u
Flying V baby!!!
The V tone is very much like that of Hendrix's at Isle Of Wight
Funny, no one has mentioned the pickups are out of phase. Sometimes PAF's accidentally had the magnets put in backwards, not a big deal, but Peter Green made good use of it.
Everybody relates the V to Albert King which makes sense but don't take Lonnie Mack out of that conversation.
A fantastic guitarist.
I always wished I could hear him on Gibson's - instead of Strat's or Tele's. This brilliant demo shows it might be a good idea. Of course; he is superb on any make of instrument.
That v is special lmao
Oh man... That V!
This is the second 58 V I've heard that has the pickups out of phase. I think this was done on purpose. The very first 57 Les Pauls with black pickguard and rings, also had the pickups purposefully out of phase. It may be that Albert's flying V was also out of phase, but its a bit hard to tell in some films.....
Dang, i believe i've seen more 1958 Gibson Flying V's on RUclips than the number actually produced!! 😳
No ,: 0
You're probably right! There were only 81 made in '58.
that V is great
are these gits for sale???
Anybody know why the fretboard markers are under the board when playing right handed?
It looks like a left handed V that was converted to right hand. The Gibson logo on the headstock is upside down and that pickguard is not original. Someone probably flipped the controls around and, to hide the cavity, cut another pickguard to cover it. At least that's what it looks like to me.
Hot damn!
What jazz thing was he playing on the ES?
Meanwhile, he seems to be practicing on it quite well.
If I played a guitar that was that old I would have a mental break only knowing how to play metal
I wanted a V so bad I had to settle for an excellent copy a JR Beck till I get the real thing
😍👍🏻🇫🇮
a V that sounds equally bad-ass as this one, is financially out of reach for most mortals like me ;)
To make a 58v sound like that is out of reach with my mortal skills.
that middle position sounded out of phase
so fuzzy
: o
Yeah the amount of wood. That must be it . I guess that a 1 ton electric guitar will have 994 kg more tone. Just guitarded !
Who skipped straight to the flying v like me lol - first thing he sez then is albert king gr8
Watch the clip of Jack Pierson playing it.
@@timhoovermusicman never heard of him - hes really good - nice tone - thanxfor the shout out - njoyd that lol
@@williamgainford9332 always glad to share good music,he played with the allman brothers in '97-'98 when warren Haynes left for government mule,I don't know what else he has done. Here's a clip of him playing duane's SG,man he's smooth as melted butter .

Oz needs a hat....Bad.......!! Lol...
