      Get him the 243 youth model. It’s a little shorter and easier to handle. It has almost no kick but tons of power. Drops every deer in its tracks. The one I have was my grandfathers and now its been passed on to me.

      Great Rifle!!! Mine is in 6.5 Creedmore and it's a tack driver. I did pick up a very nice Leupold Scope where I can see very clear at long ranges, and pick up my cross hairs nicely. I think you and your grandson will be very impressed.

  • @75stephengreen
    @75stephengreen 3 года назад +20

    I picked one up in 7-08 on a whim when it was discounted in a local shop. It handles so well that it has become my go too rifle. It is light, comfortable, and a real tack driver. I have a safe full of rifles many that are more expensive and this is the one. I will use my 300 Weatherby for elk or moose, the x-bolt for everything else. I hunt in the Wyoming Bighorn Mountains. On those big climbs the little 7-08 X-bolt is just the ticket for a light handy little rifle. When I know ranges are reasonable. With good bullets Elk within 300 yards are perfectly reasonable for that little rifle. The recoil is so reasonable the target never leaves the sight in that first shot, making a follow up shot quick and easy if ever needed.

    I wasn’t too keen on the XBolt when it was initially debuted. The “Euro” designed stock was just plain ugly. Fast forward several years, my oldest son wanted a rifle for Xmas. He “hinted” that he wanted an XBolt. Against my better judgment, I picked him up a composite Stalker in 30-06. The very first range session with it made me a convert. Everything we stuffed into it, factory and handloads resulted in sub moa bug holes! Truly unbelievable a factory rifle that light, with a barrel contour that skinny shoots that good.

    Appreciate the info and expertise in this and your other vids! I have an even cheaper version - a gray synthetic stocked 280 Rem. Like yours, it shoots sub MOA. And I agree with all your points. I added a 1/2" walnut spacer to increase the LOP by 1/2 inch -- which was simple compared to trying to do the same with other synthetic stocks. And I found that the synthetic stock material used is thicker -- like 2 or 3 times thicker - than other synthetic stocks. Solid, quiet, glass bedded stock. They also added slight, internal shoulder/indentation to the magazine to keep rounds from hitting the front of the magazine under recoil. They really paid attention to detail with this gun.. Thanks again!

    Love the X-Bolt. I've killed a lot of animals with my 30-06: from prairie dogs up to elk. Shoots just about every bullet you put in it.
    He didn't talk about the action much, but it is amazingly smooth and consistent with these rifles (at least with mine). A couple of years ago I was in a situation where I had to rattle off two shots back to back on an elk (adrenaline trumped decision-making skills). Within my last hours of elk hunting season, I jumped a couple of bulls. As they ran away from me, I put one in the rear hawk, then, without missing a beat, as the first shot spun him around, I put a second shot in the boiler room. I was able to place another in the boiler room as he passed through a small window in the trees about a second later. This is all off hand, from a mediocre shooter. I don't recommend doing that sort of thing, but the point is, it's just not possible to do that with a lesser rifle, trust me. The kick is just right to keep you on target and the bullets feed so smoothly it might as well be called a semiautomatic.
    Again, really stupid decision, I'm thankful Browning made a tool that could pull off the job.

    Beautiful rifle. Beautiful scope. Any monolithic bullet featuring relief grooves begs to have a Lee Factory Crimp applied to the mouth in each groove for testing. Typically, each COAL will be accurate but one will be outstanding. However sometimes the longest one won't chamber. No problem. Just reseat to the next groove. Great review on a fine rifle. I have to say, I am very happy with both. But, for what it cost compared to the model 70, the X-bolt really blows me away. It’s been extremely accurate, and shoots everything from 40 to 62 grains equally well. I’d been thinking about the Vanguard in .25-06, but I’m definitely going with the X-bolt instead.

      We all have our American Pride and we should. However, the amount of attention to detail Japanese culture puts into the packaging of an item alone is mind blowing. The item inside you can bet was crafted with even more care and precision. Each person is held accountable and you can bet sending out faulty items comes with pretty harsh repercussions. I worked for a Polysilicon manufacturer here in the United States that was part owned by Komatsu. Cleanliness and attention to detail were of utmost significance and importance in every operation performed. Percieved image by the world, toward the Japanese culture, is extremely important and drives everything they do. It's embedded in to them from a very young age. They are very self conscious of their image at first glance, it will stick with you once you interact with them on a professional level.

    I have a Browning in 30 06 same mod. you have . I have not been able to find any thing I don't like about it. The only thing that I found a little bothersome was the bolt knob. With the short throw smooth action on this rifle. It was tuff to grip well. My answer was black surgical tubing. Huge difference i do love every thing about this rifle now. Great review as always. Good luck and good hunting.

    I think I might get an xbolt cambered in 300 win mag. And maybe a 375 h&h in a Winchester model 70. Thanks for the honest review I wish you talked about the cons of that rifle too but that’s fine your videos are awesome

    You’ve sold me. I’m a browning fan ever since my first little Belgian made 22 semi auto to My Ab3 and most recently my 68BAR. I wanted to get 7 mm round mag and an older model 70 or 300 WinMag in a model 70 or a savage but an older one try to get something with some history but I just think the best bet would be to get maybe even one of the Hells Canyon X bolts

    for people that like the rifle overall but wish the trigger could be adjusted lighter than what you get with the factory trigger: no need to shell out for a high-quality replacement trigger. MCARBO sells a replacement spring for around 12 bucks that takes an additional pound or more off the factory setup.
    PS - I only mention this b/c some folks complain that they can't get the adjustment down as light as they want (i.e., below 3-1/2lb). I'm def not saying there's anything wrong with the stock trigger. My daughter gets average 0.46 MOA 3-shot groups with factory Hornady 7mm-08 ammo using the factory trigger.

    Nice rifle, I picked one up in .204 as I didn't want to spend a ton on this caliber. The .204 tends to burn up barrels.

    I would say Mauser 98 is probably the finest and highest quality made today in Germany but very pricey to say the least. The Xbolt is not bad for what it is although I'm not a huge fan of the reoil lug on it as opposed to the Winchester model 70's, Ruger M77, or Weatherby MarkV where the recoil lug is part of the receiver. I will admit the Xbolt Medallion is pretty good looking gun.

    Awesome review, as always. What would you trust more on a hunt, Sako 85 or X-Bolt? I’m in complete agreement, butter quality than Tikka or Howa.

    • @desertdogoutdoors1113
      @desertdogoutdoors1113  4 года назад +1

      It's whatever feels better to you. In my opinion, the X-Bolt has a better safety, bolt override, magazine release (I absolutely HATE the Sako "Total Control Latch"), and Barrel. The Sako 85 has a better feed & ejection system, built-in scope mounts, can be top-loaded, has back-up iron sights, and a better grade of Walnut if you get a wood stock.

      Hey Frank i've owned both, Xbolt's and Sako's and just bought another Sako 85 Hunter Stainless chambered in 30-06 don't get me wrong Xbolt's are good rifles but once you own a Sako 85 you won't look back, more money tho but for me there worth evrey penny! 💥

    • @falba1492
      @falba1492 4 года назад +3

      @@Gaumik-c2l - Thanks Mike. My curiosity lies with the X-Bolt, because I’ve never owned one. As you might know, the Sako 85’s have had a big problem with extractions of large magnum cartridges, like 338 and larger. I’d like to get a 375 H&H in stainless, and the Browning is an option. I had a look at a Sako 85, and the empty cartridge is ejected at a very steep angle, and crashes into its scope, occasionally falling back into the receiver. I saw this myself on a 375 H&H, and there are a lot of videos on RUclips. I asked the guys at EuroOptic about this, and they said “just get higher scope ring” 🙄. On a $2,000 rifle, I don’t think so. I have a Bavarian in 270 Win, and I love it.

    I once owned an A-Bolt in 300WSM, it is deadly accurate with the boss system, but I gave it away as a gift to a family member. I turned around and bought the XBolt in 6.5 Creedmoor not as accurate; it is a rifle staying put in the gun safe plus the trigger is junk.

    What brand and height rings did you use to mount the scope? I am thinking of mounting a 40mm scope instead of a 50mm like you have. Thank you for your awesome videos. It is really great having content from an experienced hunters point of view rather than a long range target shooter like most videos out there.
