Nagatanien, the Iga ware kiln with 200 years of Japanese culinary history

Located in northern Mie prefecture in a quiet area where you can see chimneys poking up around town is Marubashira, the Iga ware village. The pottery crafted here is highly flame resistant, and since long ago, clay pots used for cooking on open flames and teapots have been made in this village.
Nagatanien, one of the potteries of Iga ware, has continued to carry on the techniques of this craft since the workshop's founding in 1832, making pieces that are highly valued both in Japan and abroad. This program offers participants the chance to go on a special tour of the climbing kilns with the eighth generation head of Nagatanien while listening to secret stories about Iga ware, and to try cooking in a famous Nagatanien clay pot. Don't miss the chance to try some delicious rice prepared in this unique piece of pottery!

三重県の北部、穏やかな里山に煙突が登る風景が見られる伊賀焼の里、丸柱。この地の陶土は耐火性が高く、古来より直火の土鍋・土瓶などが作られてきました。
伊賀焼窯元「長谷園」は1832年築窯して以来、伊賀焼の伝統と技術を継承し、国内外から高く評価される製品を生み出しています。本プログラムでは、8代目当主による特別な案内で登り窯見学と伊賀焼に関する秘話を聞くことができるだけでなく、長谷園の代表的作品である土鍋を使った炊飯実演もご用意。炊き立ての土鍋ご飯の美味しさをぜひ味わってみてください。
