Hello, beautiful people! This is all in good fun. Trends are fleeting, but the importance of how your home makes you feel is ever present. This is based off of what I have noticed over time, but nothing is true for everyone and it’s okay to have different opinions 😊. Make your home reflect you! Thanks for watching 💕.
Thank you, beautiful lady. Having a different opinion does not mean a negative judgement of YOUR efforts in making this video, or the people who find benefit in it. It only means there are people who are comfortable and pleased with the home they have created for themselves (such as myself). Sure enjoy your spirit, and pray for much success to you!
I really enjoyed this video and do want to hear your tips. I think it would be incredible if you did more voice overs and showed more examples as you were speaking. It would keep attention but also help us learn what is good scale and what is not. There wasn't a single pic of an appropriate rug size for example. Thanks for taking the time and making the effort to share this info!
Hi, I'm just checking out your channel👋 You mentioned wanting to know people who jazz up cheap stuff. This is over the top, but this girl has really good stuff too - Yoduvh Essentials (I have to check the spelling). She does amazing (and sometimes crazy) things on a budget. I'll go check that spelling😂
If there's a university in your town with an art department, then there are art students putting on shows and trying to sell their work, and it can be really nice work and really cheap. Support a new artist instead of buying mass produced corporate bullshit
Yes!!! And in my city, we have a school for the developmentally delayed, and they have some really beautiful artwork to purchase too. Some of it is multimedia, not just paintings or drawings. The artwork doesn't cost a fortune, it will be totally unlike what anyone else has, and it also gives a huge self-esteem boost to individuals who could use that positive feedback!
@@aviewer9516 If you have a school for developmentally delayed individuals in your area, you could start there. In my city, the works of art are displayed at various physician waiting rooms with instructions on how to purchase them.
As a professional in the Drape and window covering field, I will say you do not always want your drape to touch the floor. That's fine for a bedroom or little used area, but in your living space we go for 1/2" off the floor. Otherwise the bottom of the hem picks up dirt, dust and is difficult to clean under.
Too funny, but I do love when the TV is mounted over the fireplace. I honestly do. No cords show at all either because that does not look nice. Saves space, looks amazing, and also because I detest those bulky TV console tables. To each his own, right? Lol!
Unless it's Kartell furniture. I have their Componibili nightstand, it's perfect for my small bedroom and I feel like it's a classic that will never go out of style.
I am an amateur painter so I paint a big canvas for my bedroom and I love it. It’s about ocean life, it feels me calm whenever I look at that painting. I’m proud of it. My friends couldn’t believe I painted it.😊
Wow. I really like your style approach. I’m so tired of overly critical “stylists” who slam home decor and just say it’s ugly and I don’t like it- basically insulting anything that isn’t a show home. I like how you talk about how items balance out and give really valid reasons on why it cheapens a home.
Not a fan of wooden signs that say "laugh" "Love" blah, blah blah. The only one I like is the one I saw in a bathroom above toilet that said "flush" - it made me laugh.
yes! I'm so not down with the faux inspirational messages, etc. Can't do it! Won't do it. however, yea, I might do a "flush" message...that's just a good reminder. lol!
On another designer’s video of what’s out for 2021, “Farmhouse” style being out, especially those horrible, trite signs, a commenter posted that she wanted to make one of them for the bathroom that says in beautiful, frilly script, “Defecate.” I could see that!! 😂
My very favorite sign in a home ever was a little shiny brass plaque, about 3 inches wide and less than 1 inch high, mounted near the light switch in a teensy powder room; it said "No Dancing". That always made me laugh.
I professionally framed and hung my kid's art work throughout the house. They did some very nice items which includes sculptures. I bought expensive frames with matting at thrift shops and garage sales. I switched the art over. Looks really nice.
That's to funny, 🤣 but that's the truth, my baby thinks everything on the floor is his. How you going to tell 125lb. 4 legged boo boo baby this is not yours. His gums still itch, hilarious.
I feel like the overall message is just put more care, thought, and research into the things you buy. Don’t just reach for the first thing you see in home goods.
Maya Griffin, I own some beautiful Persian rugs that I got for less than $500. I bought them on EBay. I definitely recommend looking for high end rugs on EBay, or at estate sales.
Thank you for calling out mass produced art!! As the mom of an artist there are so many talented individuals out there who will work with clients to give them pieces that are unique yet affordable! That said, I have often gone to home goods and bought "art pieces" just for the frame and or mat and replaced the "art" with an original! Love your content, keep up the great work❤
Now that you say this I realise why I always thought of myself as NOT an art person. I always thought I didnt "get" art because I could never justify walking into a store and picking one of many identical artworks to put in my home. But when I think of getting something unique, or at least rare, I'm more willing to spend on that. Thanks for the tip 😄
I’ve done this too a few times too and it really revealed to me just how cheap mass produced art is-the frames are so cheap literally like faux frames, they always break when I try to get them off.
It's called making the most out of what you have. It's good to look at magazines and start tearing up pictures and developing your own sense of style and design. And then when you find things that you like you can start decorating your home and those pieces will mean something to you!
I’m on a quest to redecorate for $0 (more like clean out and repurpose). I made curtains out of a bedsheet with some antique gold curtain rings that I found in my Nannie’s sewing box- they were .39 cents according to the package! I even made pillows from old stuffed animal stuffing 😂 I am a professional pet portrait artist so I have LOADS of original art and paint to use up😉
I've got a clunky plastic drawer in the living room. I want so badly to get rid of it but my husband believes if it still works we should keep it.....definitely need a "how to decorate with husbands" video next lol
Just a tip. In my daughters nursery, I bought two $20 5 x 7 ikea rugs and put them together to make one big one and bc of the pattern its seamless, looks beautiful, fit perfect and was super cheap.
Those big long curtains remind me so much of Carol Burnett coming down the stairs in gone with the wind wearing the curtain rod for Rhett Butler. Oh my God. So funny
@@SoldierStefanie j it's funny how there are certain episodes of certain shows that you just never forget. My other particular favorite was when it was mama and Tim Conway was trying to tell the elephant story and how it got all messed up and it went snork. And watching Carol and Harvey and everybody just lose their grip. That was a perfect one. Peace.
@@gailremp8389 Oh, Heavens yes! Just thinking about those episodes starts me laughing. Anything with Tim Conway -- and I loved watching him break up Harvey Korman -- just seeing Korman trying so hard not to laugh and Conway just pouring it on. Priceless! And how about the I Love Lucy episode where she and Ethyl work in a candy factory and they can't keep up with the conveyor belt? And the one where she's trying to sell the awful, but high liquor content VitaMeataVegimen?
No hurt feelings here (#133 thumbs down). I'm old & sensible, live rural, and the people who visit my 980 sq. ft. 1-bed 1-bath cottage come to see me, not to see if my decor looks cheap. Was in a Home Goods store once, never been in an IKEA, don't know who Tom Ford is, and am not out to impress anyone. I clicked on this video out of curiosity, not for advice. If all you have is judgement, keep it to yourself. @Teresa La Cubana, since you 'know' why 7 people clicked thumbs down, you must be psychic; how about throwing out the winning lottery numbers for tonight's Power Ball?
The Tom Ford books....everybody and their mom has one. Lol. I style my table with books that I actually read or about countries I have visited. My guest seems to enjoy them. Please NO more Tom Ford books!!!!
I don’t like the whole notion of buying books just to style a table or a shelf. All those books Tom Ford, Chanel etc... Don’t get me started on those tacky celebrity portraits everyone has like Marilyn Monroe one 😩
I bought the Naomi Campbell book specifically because I wanted the fashions but not a cliche designer book. I did an unboxing video too. Wasn’t prepared for her to be stark naked. I knew it when I purchased it but it was still shocking for some reason when I opened the box. 😆
My favorite piece of art is one that I comissioned from a close friend, she made me 3 huge paintings for a couple hundred bucks and I still stare at them and think about how much I love them
Love and agree with everything. One more to add to the list is clutter. Ex. things on the fridge door, counter tops covered with stuff, and cluttered shelving ect.
@@mentalhealthisimp Guilty! ROFL! I do it primarily because my fridge is ugly and cheap (white textured) and I don't want to look at it. But when I have the money for a new stainless steel one, there won't be a magnet in site! Haha!
OK, my feelings are hurt. I broke about 7 out of 10 reasons my house looks cheap. BUT I'm going to put my big girl panties on and fix the mistakes one by one. This video will be my checklist. Thank you!! 🙂🏡
If you love it that’s all that matters you don’t want a home that isn’t comfortable for you and your family or a home that is decorated “to impress” when you are living in it day to say it should be functional and appealing to you and your family first.
You can get a cord concealer kit from Amazon. That’s what we used to hide cords around our home, super easy to install. And it does make the place look much more put together.
I agree. We were not willing to put holes in the walls so the kit was the next best thing. Home Depot has them also. We painted the cord covering the same as the wall - looks much more polished!
My mom had Karistan Bros. come do her huge oriental rug. They used the same shampoo and carpet shampooer as u could buy yourself. I bought a good second hand shampooer for $50 and always use DIY carpet shampoo.
We started off good, I love long curtains. And then you roasted my home for the rest of the video 🤣 I’m in my living room staring at my ikea canvases, my rug that is barely big enough for the coffee table
Some tvs are definitely mounted too high. It depends on the distance of the sofa from the tv. We have ours mounted but not high to make it uncomfortable.
Very very common mistake.... TV over fireplace??? What? Also, how about make TV 3" thick to house some real speakers...and make them face forward. Bonus round...add a sub in the TV!
After retiring, I've spent the past five years living in my RV. I don't regret it, but I'm sure starting to crave something a bit less like camping! I'm getting ready to move. This is very helpful in planning.
I love that you mentioned Society6! I'm an artist on there and I love the different options on there and that it supports artists. All the pieces really add those individual style elements to a space.
Last year I did a budget DIY reno on my bathroom and designed the entire room around a shower curtain I bought on Society6! I love it so much, and every time I walk into that bathroom - even though there are still some elements that need to be dealt with when I have more money to spend - I just feel happy when I see it. Soceity6 is great! Etsy is also great for affordable original art. I was even in touch with one artist about having one of her photographs put on canvas. She offered to send me the image in the size/resolution I needed so I could have it printed/framed on canvas as she was unable to do it for me. Turned out beautifully and it hangs in that same bathroom!
As a shift worker I got the curtains thing right by accident, I just wanted to keep out as much light as possible during the day. Especially love the tips about art 🎨
I agree with most of these actually.. especially buying the same artwork that everybody has and getting rid of plastic furniture.. but I have two mirrored tables and I still love them. I dont have any other mirrored furniture so I dont think it looks overly done. Sometimes its a matter of preference and if you still love your style then no need to change and spend more money just to fit in with the trends. Trends change often and even come back around to the same thing sometimes! lol
This is why I'm here. 😂 I have no style and my clothes and home is soulless. 😭 I'm trying to find ways to dress it up without it looking like a cluttered mess. I want pops of bright colors through my house.
Ms.Ashley, try Houzz.com, use the search bar to find relevant discussion about your design dilemmas, industry pros often chime in with great advice. Always keep in mind tho, design is self-expression so don't overthink it. Magazine covers are just that, they cover up real life imperfection, so look at pics & watch videos but ultimately YOU CAN do whatever makes you happy, that's what matters. Go with it and don't look back
Allo, thanks for all your advices. May I just suggest that we shall "fix" our mistakes not for others to think that we are wealthy but because it will brings us the feeling inside that we are looking for. Over all if others think that we spent lot of money on whatever we choose to decorate and that we live in luxe, that will be something to share with them as some help to "educate" them. Again, thanks for work, it's always interesting and accurate, Lx
I love it, too! I'm getting ready to buy some expensive stuff I've been saving for. I don't care if it's out of style now; I love it and my home is for me. 😊
I didn’t know whether to cringe or laugh through half of this😂😅💀but when you showed the same IKEA portrait that’s presently hanging in my diningroom, Oooo chiiiiiile🤦🏾♀️😱😅
My daughter's townhouse has 4 floors and 5 bathrooms, she's still decorating floor by floor, so far is breathtaking. My home warming gift to my daughter, a batch of juices to tackle her inflammation since she's working from home.
Finally, an Interior Designer/Influencer, that says "DO NOT BUY THE SAME ARTWORK -Hint: "Sarah Brooks Pieces""! Thank you, for that tip in "waiting till I find the right art piece for my home"! I will definitely be adding art pieces to my little apartment that are made by local artists.
Guess I’m lucky. I’ve always had amazing artists in the family. I have one print in my house only because my deceased husband gave it to me as a gift. Another point, while I don’t always think your art has to “go” with your room, a good strategy for finding your colors can be an inspiring painting.
I had never heard of Sarah Brooks so I looked her up. I do not like any of her stuff. I'm sure there are a ton of people who do. But one of the pictures I saw looked like a 2 year old drew a spiral like circle with a big black magic marker, it was awful! I can dig abstract art sometimes but I'm not a fan of her work. But mad props to her for doing what she loves and making $ at it. That's the cool thing about art, just because one person doesnt like it doesn't mean other people wont absolutely love it!!
No one in my family or friend group shops at home goods or watches RUclips... it would be unique to them (saying this who likes her art, but doesn’t own any pieces 💕)
I love oil paintings, landscapes. My home is traditional, we’re seniors. I had an oil painting reproduction made about 15 years ago 24 x 36 and put it in a gorgeous gilt frame. It’s over the fireplace. It’s my pride and joy, the focal point of the room. I’d rather have one good piece of framed art than several inexpensive pieces. I designed the room around that painting. Older folks usually have acquired some expensive furniture pieces, over the years, that can’t be discarded or we just like too much. Your advice is excellent for young people just starting to find their comfort zone.
Hey sis. I love my leather sofa set because I have kids. I also get plenty of compliments on the way I decorate my living room along with the leather sofa on my videos. I love your opinions and options on how to style though. They help me be more creative in decorating Be blessed💕💕
I'm crying because my curtains are 4 inches above the floor...BUT...the dog hair would be trapped in them if they were to the floor. An Australian Sheppard sheds like you wouldn't believe.
I am a pro groomer and tell clients daily, “better to spend 5 mins brushing out loose hair from your dog, then 2 hours on your floor, bedspread, car seats, couch, floors, on and on. Believe me, your family and friends hate it and talk about THATS why they don’t want to eat at your house!
My decor and taste don’t even fall into 1 category, incorporate glam, farmhouse, modern and lux. But I did just buy my first all mirror sideboard. So I guess I made the list. I just don’t have matching pieces, I am making it my entry for my main suite bedroom. I debated ikea vs mirrored and mirror won. It looks clean and sophisticated where it is
I have a tobacco-colored leather Chesterfield sofa and I ADORE it. 😍 I’ve paired it with a velvet throw pillow, faux fur throw; in addition: a concrete coffee table, two leather armchairs - different color/store! - with a linen pillow in each, and two gorgeous marble topped chests. 🥰
You can do a smaller rug that you love IF you pair and layer it on another rug but it's challenging. I have seen it done. Also I've seen a smaller rug work when furniture was placed to break up your room and create intimate clusters of furniture.
I'd love to hear her opinion on placing area rugs over carpet. It's a look that makes me cringe (as does layering multiple area rugs), but it seems that many of the designers on RUclips do it.
You should have a look at British interiors guru Abigail Ahern. She breaks a few of your “rules” such as small rugs and over sized lamps. Her spaces are amazing, although not at all minimalistic. She is a self confessed maximalist who uses dark colours and texture. I love her style and my home definitely has some of her influence. I think it is actually about balance and what makes you feel joy but to each their own xxx
I’m so so glad I didn’t buy any mirrored furniture when it was all the rage! Despite loving it, I just knew I would be so annoyed by the upkeep of it since it’s not forgiving when it comes to dust. Now that trend has passed and it’s gone! Had I bought it, I would’ve regretted it now!
I love my two pieces and they’re timeless. They’re perfect for expanding space and are a clear pallet for any design. If you have a mirrored bedroom suite, simply spread the pieces out throughout the house so the overall effect is subtle.
Literally laughed out loud about the castle vibes with your curtain tip 😂😂 Loved the video - thank you for sharing these awesome pieces of advice and for your honesty!!
By breaking the leather sets and putting one or two pieces in each room, you get a cohesive home style where each piece stands and can act as an accent. On the contrary, by placing all together in the living room, ir looks crowded and cheap, and so does the rest of the house. An exception might be white natural leather sofas that can share the room with a second similar piece or a twin. This was your best piece of advice.
I agree that matching sets are a no-no, but having different pieces that are different styles and colours - but still all leather - totally works. I've seen it done and I'm planning to do it myself when I can afford the leather chair I want (I already have the sofa). I hate matching sets of anything, no matter where they're placed (bedroom, kitchen, living room), but design can still include all leather if done intentionally with complementary pieces (and also with other fabrics thrown in for pillows, throws, etc.). Just my two cents.
I love mirrors! 😂 I'm redoing my apartment with a few curated glam mirror pieces and a sculpture I'm building myself. I know it's not "in" anymore but I'm really into the 80's and want my space to feel like walking back in time, but in a classy way. I've spent a bit of time curating pieces and matching color samples, so hopefully it will look nice!
I recently saw something online about how to camouflage wall mountedTVs. One of the tips I thought was clever is to paint the wall black as a feature wall. You don't notice the big black TV as much an accent wall like that can look very sophisticated if done well.
@@BeautyIsMyLife I think it could work in a smallish room as long as you do just the one accent wall. If you aren't brave enough to do black then perhaps a dark gray?
Great advice. Love the tips on sizing and scaling. As for IKEA, I remember when we maxed out our budget to buy our place here in Paris, all we could afford were a few pieces of IKEA furniture. When a snobbish friend came over the first time, she looked around and said « vous êtes IKEA à mort », i.e. « you’re IKEA unto death. » I’ve never lived it down (nor has she, I always remind her of it!), but it turned me into an inveterate IKEA hacker 😅
Hey Kiva, I just wanted to say a big thanks for your content! I'm moving at the end of this month and can't wait to start fresh and design our new space!
I love this girl. Thank you, for talking about the plastic furniture. I hate that crap. I have one, in my bathroom, because my sink is broken, right now, I am going to fix it this spring, and then the plastic is going in the trash...or under my craft table...covered up.
For those of us who have too short of curtains/draperies, rather than going out to buy new to replace them, think about these tricks of the trade to save yourself some money: (1) Check the width of current hem. There may be enough material to make the curtains/drapes long enough to "kiss" the floor by just letting down the hem and adding either a very skinny hem (hemming tape is my preference) along the bottom of the curtain, or adding plain material to the bottom of the curtain with hemming tape and using that to add "bulk" to the bottom of your new hem. The material will be hidden on the reverse side of the curtain and won't be seen, but I would stick with a lighter neutral color like white or beige. (2) If the panel length is still too short even after you let the hem down as suggested in (1), think about adding a complementary or contrasting color panel at the bottom of your curtain/drape to add the necessary length to "kiss" the floor. Experiment with how deep you would want the band to be and whether you would go with a solid color band from one of the colors picked out of a patterned curtain or, if your panel is one solid color, contrasting it with a patterned but coordinated color additional panel for the hem line. As for the rest, I honestly wouldn't know if you bought something at Ikea or Home Goods or Society Six or wherever and wouldn't care anyway. What I find offensive is trying to PRETEND you're something you not. We're not all decorators, we're not all uber-rich fat cats, we all don't have husbands who make a million or more a year so you can teeter around in 5 inch stilettos all day and get cosmetic surgery every 6 months. And who gives a flying eff anyway how much you paid for your possessions or where you got them from? If you hang around with people who would walk into your house and say oh I see you bought that REALLY CHEAP BED FROM IKEA I'd say EFF OFF - politely, of course - and drop that person from my "friend" list because that person isn't a friend, she or he is just a bitch. Buy what you like and everybody else can go blow.
May I ask with respect, why you are watching this particular video if you feel that way? I assume this video is for people who are interested in what the designer believes makes their home look cheap. If you really don't care and believe that it makes absolutely no difference how you decorate your home, then why waste your time?
@@carolynwright2342 Maybe I can help with your question. I am not into "design" TV so I have never heard of this, or most, designers. This video showed up on RUclips. It sounded interesting so I watched it. By the end of the video, I was saying the same thing because I don't bring things into my home for anyone other than myself, not to impresses or dazzle my friends. I do realize that I am not the target audience but that would be the answer to your question.
omg that graphic on how rugs should be sized to different room setups is SO HELPFUL!!! This entire video is so helpful but that one was something I was having a hard time figure out and now I realize I need a bigger rug than what I was planning…
Wait, so having commissioned artwork of my original characters framed on the walls of my bedroom makes me look bougie? Hell yeah 😀 I thought it just made me look like a sad nerd!
When you said no to leather furniture i was like nooo i love my chesterfield. So glad you elaborated 😂 my chesterfield is definitely a stand alone piece
I find that using two panels on either side of the window looks more substantial and definitely helps with framing the window better, it instantly looks more luxe.
I lived in an apartment my son and girlfriend are decorating my place. I gave them a homework, I mentioned my personality and favorite colors. I'm claustrophobic, hate crowded spaces, too much stuff in walls, love plants, and mainly soft clean look. They are doing a good job so far, I spend my time making essential oils and juices.
For artwork and paintings, check out goodwill type stores. Yes they have lots of junk, but they also have original art that someone doesn’t like. It’s a great way to get original oil paintings!
Some signs I agree with and the lake ones I love. I love my “work like a captain play like a pirate”sign too. It’s perfect for a lake/ocean setting. I’ll never take it down 😆
Thank you!!! I have made TONS of design mistakes myself, so there’s no reason to judge other people about them! I just want to help make improvements 😊.
excellent video! you just touched the tip of the iceberg.. CLUTTER ...paper, knick knacks, pillows, crap on counters...junk...ALWAYS makes a home/room cheap.
Girl, my rugs are too small, and I've got cords and clutter all around. I'm in the process of decluttering so there's just PILES everywhere waiting to be tossed, donated, or sold. We never replaced our rugs from our first home...where they did fit, and we are moving again in a couple of years. By then the kids will be a bit older, and a bit less messy too. For now, I'm just rolling with it. Loving all your advice for when I'm ready to pull my final look together. Thanks for all of your tips.
Loved the video! My own pet peeves are super easy: 1. Fake oriental carpets. If you want a room to look luxurious, buy a hand made wool rug, silk if you can afford it. That’s where wealthy people begin. The fakes are obvious. 2. Fake wood. Nobody is ever fooled, buy honest furniture that isn’t trying to be something it isn’t. PS, this includes the floor! Old real wood furniture is always better than new fake wood furniture. Always. 4. Art prints. Wealthy people have original art on the walls. Frame your kid’s work. Buy something at a student art show. Buy a canvas and make your own version of a painting you love. No fakes! The second the light hits the surface, it’s clear that it’s a print, not a painting. 5. Don’t buy “decor” or “decorator” anything, skip anything mass produced that is found in a department store and made in a country where they don’t pay workers a fair wage - such as Hobby Lobby, and the rest. Finally, I think the Tiny House Community has taught us that it isn’t wise to look down on small homes, they are usually much more expensive per square foot than an ordinary house. “Larger is better” is absolutely an outdated and short sighted mindset, and can lead people to buy houses that are too big, and then they’ve got to somehow furnish the whole thing... which just gets them deeper in debt. It makes much more sense to go for cozy and intimate spaces that lead to deep conversations and connection, then furnish them with a few lovely treasures. I’ve lived in the big house on the golf course, and it was nice but the quality was very low, and the large spaces made me feel isolated and disconnected. I now live in a smart, sexy, small house with handmade rugs, original art, handcrafted furniture, and a Steinway and I LOVE it. In the end we all define wealth differently, so choose what you love in your home, do the work you love, and be with the ones you love - that is true wealth. 💚💜💙
@@roundtheworlddiva8610 We have hardwood floors, handmade wool and silk rugs, and a brand new puppy. It feels perfectly practical to me because this is our home and we make habits according to what we love. I'll always be obsessed with mirrored stuff sorry not sorry, I just love the vaporwave vibe. Then again I have absolutely no mirrored furniture yet cause I'm too broke for new furniture so I haven't gotten tired of it 😂

Oh Kim who cares! Don't worry about what this chic says. Most people aren't going to notice any of this stuff.
Antiques are the way to go. Etsy.

You got me with mounting the tv. I have artwork above my TVs. Call me old but I don’t want to look up into the air to watch tv. Not comfortable. 😀
Some tvs are definitely mounted too high. It depends on the distance of the sofa from the tv. We have ours mounted but not high to make it uncomfortable.
Me too. You can style around a tv on a console as easily as one that’s mounted.
A TV should be mounted at viewing height, not high up. That's a common mistake.
Very very common mistake.... TV over fireplace??? What?
Also, how about make TV 3" thick to house some real speakers...and make them face forward. Bonus round...add a sub in the TV!
There are the right measurements for the ideal hight of a mounted TV from the center of your TV to the ground depending on the TV size.

Soceity6 is great! Etsy is also great for affordable original art. I was even in touch with one artist about having one of her photographs put on canvas. She offered to send me the image in the size/resolution I needed so I could have it printed/framed on canvas as she was unable to do it for me.

That sounds amazing! I like that you used different leathers and added new textures!
@@KivaBrent too much leather.
Mirrored furniture has been around since 1920 (and probably earlier) so it's really not a trend.
Thank you so much, Mark!!! I love the castle look...if you live in a castle lol!
What about a dark brown leather sofa with black leather chairs? See above comment ⬆️

I did this!!! And it fits the vibe!
@@AngelinaSpicy Nice!! :)
I like this idea! Seems that a black accent wall is popular right now. Anyone have ideas on how to make it work better in a smallish room?
@@BeautyIsMyLife I think it could work in a smallish room as long as you do just the one accent wall. If you aren't brave enough to do black then perhaps a dark gray?
I saw a navy blue accent wall that was beautiful. You could still see the TV but it blended well enough. Google framing your TV, DIY or pro.
Great advice. Love the tips on sizing and scaling. As for IKEA, I remember when we maxed out our budget to buy our place here in Paris, all we could afford were a few pieces of IKEA furniture.
Yes this is also very true! Just go with what you like!
Amen!!
H
If I see another “Farmhouse” sign, IN a farmhouse 😫
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂
“Gather” = gag me
No if I see another farmhouse sign in a inner city home with obviously no farm for miles lol
I dislike all of those signs. Who's buying them?
omg that graphic on how rugs should be sized to different room setups is SO HELPFUL!!! This entire video is so helpful but that one was something I was having a hard time figure out and now I realize I need a bigger rug than what I was planning…
Your channel is so refreshing in so many ways. I'm laughing, I'm learning and I'm getting called out all at once. THANK YOU!!
I have to keep my curtains off the floor or my dogs will pee on them 😂
LOL That's exactly what my dog did! 🐶
I have one too. I have to be in top of my dog. LOL
That's hilarious😂
then you should opt for shades. there's all styles. any of them would be better than drapes hovering above the floor
I haven’t seen any cheap mirrored furniture.. but people buy what they like.. but I agree with most of your suggestions
The curtain touching the floor thing only works if you don't have radiator heaters affixed to your wall.
This video just called me tacky 😭💀 the funniest roast session ever
We have a whole wall dedicated to second-hand art in our home.
"...because I KNOW you got it at Home Goods..." I laughed out loud...because you're right!
I worked hard for my lake house and you best believe I'm keeping my "life is better at the lake" signs in EVERY ROOM!
Honestly, I agree!! Lol!
Some signs I agree with and the lake ones I love. I love my “work like a captain play like a pirate”sign too. It’s perfect for a lake/ocean setting. I’ll never take it down 😆
🤣🤣
Long as u are happy, who cares!!! Enjoy.
Love this video!!! These tips are good. and I love how this video wasn't totally judgey. We've all made mistakes in design.
Thank you!!! I have made TONS of design mistakes myself, so there’s no reason to judge other people about them! I just want to help make improvements 😊.
"Again..moral of the video- small is noT it!"
That's what she said. 🥴😂🤣🤣
😂
I totally agree
Yes, size matters.
excellent video! you just touched the tip of the iceberg..
Hard wood floors with children and pets is not practical and I hate carpet so what would you recommend?
@@roundtheworlddiva8610 I have hard wood floors with kids and pets. I don't understand how that is not practical.
@@roundtheworlddiva8610 We have hardwood floors, handmade wool and silk rugs, and a brand new puppy. It feels perfectly practical to me because this is our home and we make habits according to what we love. Our sweet puppy is also quickly gaining good habits, and we will have the rugs all cleaned in the Spring. No worries.
Excellent tips. You should have your OWN channel!
100% TOTALLY spot on! everything
"I'm a minimalist, I just put a pot there and go ha-ah"... So funny, had to subscribe! 😂😘
Welcome, Claudia!!! Thanks so much!
I'll always be obsessed with mirrored stuff sorry not sorry, I just love the vaporwave vibe. Then again I have absolutely no mirrored furniture yet cause I'm too broke for new furniture so I haven't gotten tired of it 😂
Artwork, the kind you find at a second-hand store, is also a great, affordable and unique option.
I love art from eyes on walls. So many different options and artists then I get something beautiful and original.
