On the safety issues, a key one is for divers. There is no access to hyperbaric recompression chambers in Misool. I may be out of date with this but last I heard, the one near Sorong was out of action. So dive well within your limits. It’s no place to get a bend or embolism.

Thank you very much for all the information. Do you know it it would have been possible to rent Kayaks in Misool for kayaking without guides? Also, do the hosts of the homestay rent out their motorboats so one can explore the area without guides?

@@homo-scepticus Ask some of the homestays, I am sure at least some of them have kayaks that you can rent (haven’t seen any in Yamnini Homestay, though). Homestays can also arrange boats to go around the islands with a boatman (normally, 1-2 other people will accompany you to help navigate and with anchorage, but they aren’t necessarily guides). So yes, it is possible to put together a plan by yourself and the boatman just takes you there.

Great video! We’re trying to book a scuba live aboard trip to Wisool in January. Not to bother but I’ve got a drone and wondering if there are special permits or procedures necessary to fly a drone there? Any info would be very helpful. Thank you.

My understanding is that the rules are pretty much the same as in other countries in Southeast Asia. I had my DJI Mini 2 with me, so registration or other permits were not needed (plus Misool is pretty remote, most of the islands are empty, so there was no problem to fly). If you have a regular sized drone then you should have it registered (I guess they can check it upon entry to the country).

so disappointing. I was hoping to use the same touroperator as you did. it's so difficult to find information about shared tours in Missol area. 😢 almost impossible

Yes, tourism isn’t as developed here as it is in other places. One big issue is the Internet coverage I guess, only the villages have some mobile signal in Misool and it isn’t very reliable, so it would be hard for the locals to advertise/develop trips I guess. Anyway, an organized trip isn’t really necessary, try to find some other people to share the costs, because it is easy to organize everything once you are there.

Dont go misool. Its full of rubbish and Jellyfish

Wow, where did you see rubbish? The only place I saw some is Yellu village, the beaches and bays were pretty clean. (As it can be seen in my videos.) Maybe in off-season, the wind/waves can bring some rubbish onto the islands, but I doubt it can be that bad.

@@HighOnLowTide In reality in Misool every 5 minutes you encounter a jellyfish and many are deadly like the Box Jellyfish. It is also a cloud of plastics... better to be in Bali.
