Dear Fr Warner John the Baptist's statement ' He must increase, I must decrease speaks of his life's mission as forerunner of Christ. Often in life we want to hold on to our positions & not allow others to succeed. John shows us by example how He graciously steps aside for Jesus to fulfil His destiny. John again reminds us that all who believe in Jesus are rewarded with eternal life. The choice is ours - between life & death, light & darkness. There is a difference between the sermons of John the Baptist and the teachings of Jesus. John the Baptist speaks in an earthly way while Jesus is from heaven and what He speaks is the message of God. Jesus being the Word of God brings us the message from above. Believing in Jesus is believing God and has eternal life. Thank you Fr. Warner for your explicit reflection on the words of John the Baptist in context to today's Gospel text "HE MUST INCREASE AND I MUST DECEREASE" .. yes, we need to remain humble in our own life in words and deeds.
