The Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia’s most popular tourist attraction, was granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 1979. Located roughly halfway between capital city Zagreb and Zadar on the coast, the lakes are a definite must-see in Croatia. (As confirmed by the many emails we’ve received!)
The beauty of the National Park lies in its sixteen lakes, inter-connected by a series of waterfalls, and set in deep woodland populated by deer, bears, wolves, boars and rare bird species. The National Park covers a total area of 300 square kilometers, whilst the lakes join together over a distance of eight kilometers.

Definitely take his advice and come in winter time, it's soo much better, fewer people, beautiful frozen cascades, peace and quite.
Agreed, with winter season. I visited park 2 days ago and there were tons of people. Not that enjoyable as in this vid, but still very beautifull!

Plitvice lakes is a beautufil place on this earth but with over 1,8 Million visitors in 2018 no secret anymore :D we've been last year on a rather rainy day and tehre weren't too many people :)

The most beautiful country on this

Liberty and Freedom
Haha yes!! Very beautiful country! 🍻
Sad historical facts about this beautiful place: The Plitvice and Lika region (along with Gračac, Benkovac, Obrovac, Knin, Petrinja, etc.) was populated mostly by the Serbs (check the demographics in Wikipedia for the year 1991). Now, it's almost ethnically clean from the Serbs. While it was part of the socialist Yugoslavia, the Socialist Republic of Croatia had its own Constitution under the Constitution of Yugoslavia. Franjo Tuđman introduced constitutional changes and pressed for the creation of an independent Croatia with strong anti-Serb and anti-Yugoslav policy. This event resulted in creation of Serb Republic of Krajina, which was populated by the Serbs since the Early Middle Ages (before Ottoman invasion). The Plitvice Lakes park was one of Yugoslavia's most popular tourist attractions. But in March 1991 it became the scene of the Plitvice Lakes incident - the first armed confrontation of the Croatian War of Independence that resulted in fatalities.

Croatia, I hear, is like a less tourist-heavy version of Greece with it beautiful climate!
I haven't been to Greece but I can confirm the beautiful climate! 😀 We were in Italy just before Croatia, and actually Croatia seemed to be just as busy as Italy!
World Wide Wong
Hurry up, we have more people every year
Except Croatia has no pick pockets, immigrants pooing and pissing in the streets and the shops dont try and rip you off like the Italians do. The other advantage of Croatia was, most people spoke English, in Italy, they purposely didnt
Powder Skier ur right and peeps I need advice for plitvice lakes!!!! i’m going, and it’s planned......

nature at its finest! woah!
Thanks Josie!! Crazy beautiful hey? 😍
Beautiful.straight forward
Thank you =)
Did an excellent presentation of Plitvice lakes. Impressive display and great transitions. It was interesting to remember and to see this place again. We were in Plitvice in 2009, and next year we are planning to repeat our trip (after 10 years :)) but this time with 2 boys. For them, it should be a big challenge to walk around Plitvica lakes :)
Thank you =) That is so cool! Your boys are going to love it
Very nice video, great job. I have to go there, I've been to Zagreb and going to Dubrovnik, looking up where that is right now!
Thanks mate! This is a MUST DO in Croatia. In fact, did you even go to Croatia if you didnt visit Plitvice!? 😜
I wonder who the first person to find this place was and how he/she reacted.
Went there last summer and it was absolutely amazing!!!!
That's awesome!
Dudeee, firstly, why didn't I come across your channel earlier? And secondly, wow, I live like 2 hour drive away from Plitvice, was only there once like 10 years ago with my parents, but we only did the lower part... The top lakes look amazing! Have to start planning a trip there :) Great job!
That is crazy ahaha! You'll definitely have to go back sometime. I would love to know what its like in winter!
That looked fantastic man! Am going this summer, can I ask which camera you use? Is it a gopro? If so, which one?
Thank you! This was filmed with the Panasonic G85 and GX85 with the zhiyun crane v2 for some shots. The only gopro shots were the underwater shots =)
Greetings from Croatia! 🇭🇷 😊
Hello! Hope you enjoyed the video 😁
That's a great video! I agree with the advice of travelling not in peak season, much more enjoyable without crowds! Because of Covid, I got the chance of filming the park almost empty. Probably one of the only advantages of travelling in 2020
Thats awesome!! Bet you got some amazing footage
Dude that was beautiful and gorgeously edited, very cinematic 🥰. Kept waiting to see some aerial shots but I guess it ain’t easy to fly a drone with all those crowds around
Thank you! Drones are illegal in the park without permission from the tourism authorities and it's quite a long process to get the needed clearance. So I decided to not fly it in the park and not risk ending up in a Croatian jail hahaha
Explorastory Films lol I get that, I’m typically quite paranoid about flying illegally but you see so many people that don’t give a rat’s ass and fly in towns, over busy squares, parks, etc. wish I had the same audacity 😂
Yeah it's so true. I'd rather not contribute to the problem =)
You have sooo more things in Croatia to see bro..Greets from Croatia ❤ (nice shots)
Thanks mate! I know. I will be back!
The Path Less Traveled Wow...great to hear that.We are small but we are full of history and bioculture.
I wish you luck! 😀
Nice video about Plitvice, I wanted to go there in June, planning a Road Trip from Slovenia to Croatia but now after seeing these masses of people I'm not very keen to go any longer... BUT - awesome footage and the place looks awesome!
Ah yes, in June it will be a bit busy! But if you could go in the winter I think that it would be perfect. Thanks mate 😀
Wow so beautiful😍
I know right!? Thanks Laura =)
I was there one year ago 😍 the best place
Agreed!!
Thank u for this video...and yes..it's cold enough during the winter..waterfalls are frozen. :) Maybe even more beautiful then in summer. :)
Greetings from Croatia. 🇭🇷☺
You're welcome =) that sounds amazing! I hope to visit again 😁👌🏽
I Loveeee Croatia, from Nepal
Thanks for watching =)
I live in Plitvice
So glad you made this video😊
What an amazing place to call home! 👌🏽
The Path Less Traveled I'm so happy that you liked that place
And the way you represented it
It's absolutely amazing
And thank you for that💞
You're very welcome! I hope to come visit again 🍻
Are there smaller waterfalls around that are not so crowded in summer? Any cool smaller lakes? Coming this summer with a young family not afraid to go off the beaten path. Any tips for small adventures and hidden gems?
That's a great tip, didn't know it before. It looks like a place not to crowed - great!
No worries!
little discoveries
It can be crowded, specially during summer
Avoid summer if you can, crowds are insane then, especially at lower lakes, you are constantly in line, can't even stop to take photos, upper lakes have more trails so crowds get more dispersed there
so insanee! hope someday i'll go there!❤
Thanks!! Its an amazing place =)
Then go to island Vis also. Nice vid, good quality. Glad you liked the Croatian nature✌
I've been wanting to go here for ages!
Its incredible! Definitely pencil it in for your next Europe trip!
Yes go and get ready for some amazing Croatian food
Im from Croatia its super fun I live in Croatia I hope that you have a good time here in Croatia
I had a fantastic time =)
Amazing video really love it! Did you colour grade this. Really want to go there.
Thanks. Yes I did a small grade on the footage
@@itsryanwilkes awesome looks great!
Next time you have to go during the snow melt, April may are the best. The waterfalls are flowing more heavily, much more impressive!
Curtis Lowery thank you for the advice! I think there is something special in every season haha! I would also like to go in the winter to see the frozen lakes, and in the autumn to see the beautiful colours!
We've liked the way you've enjoyed nature in every country! The park is so beautiful and mesmerizing. We would definitely love to rent the boat if we ever visit this park!
The boat is a MUST! Its so relaxing =)
Good idea ! I am Croatian born who lives in London . Been there many years ago and we took boat . It was amazing experience as I was swimming in the lake . It's breathtaking beauty all around National park. It's stated as 6 th most amazing natural beauty in the World. So beautiful country. Hope you enjoy your visit .
awesome video, great commentary. where did you guys stay that you were so close to the entrance? and where else did you tour?
Thanks a lot mate! I think the place we stayed was called House Krizmanic if you want to search it up. We also went to Dobrovnik, Korcula, Split and Zagreb!
I plan to take this exact route on Sept.13, 2019 starting from Entrance 2 going to Upper lakes first, which means turning left according to the map trail "K" of course. I can see that you been there in September ( I can see yellow leaves)?
Nice! You're going to love it. Yep I was there in September. Wish I could gone a couple of weeks later so that all of the leaves were yellow and orange!
Heaven on Earth.
Well, if a Kiwi says that nature somewhere is beautiful, then it most certainly is. :o)
Thank you. Im heading to Croatia in July and was debating whether to go or not there considering it will be too crowded. I guess I'll pass it. Next time...
The video was great
Thank you!
Totally agree with you about the frustration of the crowds and the inadequate boardwalks. Thanks for showing both sides of the coin (and showing the pretty parts first :)
Glad you liked it!
I dont understand! Everyone is upset, especially the people from USA, about the crowd. Everyone wants to see this natural wonder, should the Croatian government make a selection of who may and may not see Plitvice? In that case no one but Croats would see the National Park! Now about boardwalks! If you didnt know this park is protected by UNESCO, neither Croatia nor UNESCO want too much interference with nature, so this is both a minimum and a maximum of interference. What you see is what you get, no more and no less.
The lakes are amazing in winter, they do freeze = A must see
Cheers! Next time I go it will be in the winter 😀
As a American with a over thousands of different lakes this is hands down the most beautiful lake I have ever seen 😍
I love all your videos. You're definitely a cinematographer with the way you shoot. Where are you these days?! If you're ever in the US, hit me up.
Thanks so much!! Im still in New Zealand. One year left to go with the PhD, then im off to see the rest of the world haha. I will definitely hit you up when I come to the states 😁
Im living in 🇭🇷 in Zapresic.. Velebit national park is gorgeus and amazing too
Nice! I will remember for the next time I visit!
Love this video! I'm going next week and have some questions. How did you get there and what time did you aim to get there?
Thanks! We took a bus from Split to get there, then we stayed at one of the many guest houses along the main highway. We were in the park just after 7 am because that's when no one else is there haha! It started to get really busy around 9
Check out Izvor Kupe (Spring Kupa - river), you can swim there, it is amazing... Check also the nature parks Učka and Risnjak. You also can see Kamačnik, Vražji prolaz. There are so many things to see here...
Thank you for the tips!
What’s the first song name ? Good taste !
My mom was a teacher, every grade four Plitvice was a required school field trip for a day. I've been there with her 4th graders more times than I can count. Those walking paths were the same width back then as they are now. The park officials are trying to preserve the nature as much as possible so that those planks don't spoil the scenery. Plus in spring some of those paths are completley under water.
That's so cool! Thanks for watching
This place is absolutely NUTS. never been but just about all the images I've seen on the gram are killer, this was fun to watch. good edits. clean cuts my'man
It's seriously one of a kind! Cheers bro 😁
Nice video. Loved the songs too....tracklist?
Thanks mate! Sorry, I actually can't remember the tracks but they are from Artlist.io
BTW, you have a new sub!
Thank you so much =)
Beautiful! I want to make my first trip to Croatia this year. Was thinking of renting a motorcycle in Venice and riding it down the Croatian coast. When is the best time to go?
Oh that would be an incredible trip! September was a nice time to go because it wasn't as busy as summer but the weather was still nice =)
In july you should go to saharun beach by ferri from zadar, croatian people keep the beach a low key secret , its meant to be the most beautiful beach in europe
I was there and It was amazing!
I have posted some pictures on Instagram ( @miacazt) if you want to see them. Thanks :D
Awesome!! It's such a nice place
I was already exited about going here in September, but now I’m even more so! I hope my vlog turns out as nice as yours!
We were told to go after 2:00 when the tour buses and day trippers have left. We’re staying overnight so we can do just that. I have tickets for a 2:00-3:00 entry We will see how that works out!
Yeah true! Might not be a bad plan. If I remember correctly the park stays open till about 7pm so you'll have plenty of time =)
The Path Less Traveled we were there yesterday! I think the combination of later in the day, being September after s schools started, and being a drizzly overcast day really kept the crowds down. We did route H, which is far less ambitious, but we’re almost 60, so.....LOL.
Hey, great vid! Was it August or September that you travelled to Plitvice? Thanks.
Thank you! It was in the middle of September
Same time I plan to be there... not looking forward to those crowds!
Just make sure to go early in the morning right when it opens so that you have an hour or two without many people around =) by 10am its packed!
I found the lower lakes so much more impressive, I'm really surprised to hear that you preferred the upper lakes.^^ I mean both are amazing but man...that end section near Veliki Slap? IMHO that absolutely overshadows everything else in the park.
Everything was breathtaking tbh!
Thank you for replying back. I have read some people recommends to do lower Lakes first because they tend to get more crowded with the day and most tour groups mostly take that route.. but in your videos it was almost empty. How did u manage it? Thanks again.
Most of those shots with no people were taken very early in the morning or late in the day when the park is quiet. It was very busy during the middle of the day =(
