Thank you!! I had colon surgery 3 weeks ago due to diverticulitis ugh, took out foot of my colon!! Hope to get in the best shape of my life now. Good luck
@@EdmonJiddou I'm having a right hemicolectomy on wednesday (9-8-21) to remove a couple of large polyps that were discovered via colonoscopy in january and I'm absolutely terrified.....my biggest fears are complications during and after surgery and my greatest fear of all is winding up with an ostomy.
I had small bowel resection surgery three weeks ago, suddenly became violently ill on the middle of the night, being on my own, I was vomiting and my stomach was huge, finally when I got to the hospital and seen by doctor's it turned out to be emergency surgery, they tried Laparoscopic but it was too bad I was cut from the top of the belly button right down. My energy level is a 4.5, pain is about a 5, but getting better every day, I was going to the gym every second day and I won't be able to go back for another 6 weeks. What I have learned from this is DIET, having a high fibre diet is imperative. Wishing you all the best 🙏
Wow this is so perfect! I'm a fitness junkie and just had resection last week! I'm walking everyday and starting incline treadmill today. Did you start lifting after 8 weeks? Thinking of starting the stair master after my surgical drain is out. Don't want to overdo it though. Also my appetite is not as ferocious as it was - trying to at least get my protein in. Great video! Gives me hope
Hello! I am over 2 years post surgery and feeling great. The body is incredibly adaptable. To answer your question I would ease into weights, you don’t want to cause a premature hernia since the abdomen wall is going to be weak for a bit. Yes I started light weight training @ 8 weeks.
Thank you for sharing this. My wife just had a similar surgery & it's very encouraging to hear you talk about taking it easy for 8 weeks. (Her surgery was 3 weeks ago...)
Hey man, thanks for this video. I was just curious what led the doctors to finding the inflamed tissue in your colon? Where you having pain discomfort or any other symptoms? 6 years ago I had a pre-cancerous tumor removed along with several inches of my colon. From the ileocecal to the transverse colon. I still have discomfort in the area of my reception. I'm planning on getting this checked again as of course I have concerns. What was your full experience during recovery?
I actually did not have any discomfort, but colon cancer runs in my family and wanted to get a colonoscopy done before my insurance was due to run out. This lead to finding my appendix inflamed and lead to the surgery.
Very inspiring, I just had my very first colonoscopy this week and the dr found a mass at my sigmoid colon, waiting for the pathology report; but he said it was cancer😥 and I need to have had section removed. I'm am scared to death. CAT scan is next. But you gave me some hope. Thanks for sharing your journey!
Hello! I know how you feel and I can tell you it gets better, trust in the experts call and have the section removed, I’m 2 years post surgery and feel great. I will do an update video soon for people asking. Good luck and please let me know how you feel after.
Get your surgery done. Once you recover, consult with doctor to add fiber supplement in your diet. Ask doctor on prebiotics and prebiotic supplentation. Don't eat fried food, oily food, greasy food, eat fruits and vegetables. Exercise and yes stop eating gluten ( wheat products) it blend foods like rice, banana, rice crackers in moderation. Totally avoid caffeine, alcohol, citrus fruits, lemonade and carbonated drinks etc these things make stools acidic. Take good care, sleep well and you will never get cancer again.. Exercise take vitamin c and fish oil
Thank you for this. I am a looking at the same procedure in two weeks and hoping to recover as quickly as I can to get back to running. Best wishes to you.
Hello and thanks for the kind words, I think I was around 8-10 weeks before I did any real gym movements. However I was back to normal life within a couple weeks.
I love that you did a before video. I definitely am shocked to see the amount of muscle lost in 8 days, but at least you’re in the clear health wise ☺️ Can’t wait time see more of the journey once you’re able to start lifting again. You got this! What’s the story behind the name OUTRUN for your clothing business? Love it!
Stumbled upon your video. Very wise to document the before & after. Wish I had done that. I'm a Pilates teacher, and having my abs cut into, sort of freaked me out. Similar to you, I bounced back nicely. In fact, 5 years after the surgery, I can do some moves that I couldn't before. Chalk it up to determination.
Good morning. I had a partial colectomy on the 21 of this month. The day after surgery, I got up and walked around the ward at least three times a day. I will be 69 in May, but you would never know because I appear years younger. People always think I'm lying. Every time I go for the senior menu, I am carded. I'm out of the hospital. Doing well. My question: What solid foods did you eat after you returned home? How long did it take for you to lift over 10 pounds? I'm an avid bowler, and my balls weigh 14 lbs. I know you lift weights, and that takes longer. I'm in good health otherwise. I am following the doctor's orders. I would like to know about your experience. I am also female, and my cuts/incisions were in four different areas. Thanks.
I try to stick to Whole Foods, keep away from the processed frozen foods and junk. Meat, fiber filled foods seem to sit well, leafy greens while taste good hurt my stomach if I eat to much. As far as weights, I waited the whole 8 weeks before any real weight lifting and even then I took it very easy so I did not get a hernia. As far as bowling, I would wait 8 weeks since I’m sure it’s a lot to twisting and pulling of your core. Hope you are feeling better!
will get to have my sigmoid colon removed mid September this year (2024)... several episodes of diverticulitis which will not get any better even with a strict diet. Am a little bit scared about the 5% risk getting a temporary stoma but am willing to take this risk in order to fully recover.
I had a full colectomy. My scar looks much like yours except it's 18 in Long. I was in my thirties when they did it so it healed beautifully but now that I'm older it's starting to show up. I had one post-op appointment where I was told to drink a glass of Metamucil so I would not have so much diarrhea and that was good advice but I was disappointed that that was all the instructions I got. Here I am at 63 and struggling with my skin chafing off even though I drink six or seven bottles of water a day plus. I was never told to do that I'm just thirsty all the time. Like I said no instructions whatsoever except Metamucil to slow down diarrhea. I understand B12 shots are helpful and my goodness I have no energy and that's been going on for years. I also have a severe case of hypothyroidism which probably caused the death of my colon but that wasn't found until more than 10 years later and I was the one who discovered there was a big goiter hanging out of my neck. No doctor ever asked me if I was tired or why I never had a regular period in my life. The most I ever had was probably 6 in a year and they were absolutely excruciating. Anyway I realize your video is nothing about me or my situation but I have been looking for years for information on colon removal without ostomy and this is the first time I found it. I don't know what led me here but finally I am here and see a couple more videos to watch❤ hope you are doing well. You'll build that muscle in no time my brother is a professional bodybuilder so I know a thing or two about that😅
I’m scheduled for a similar surgery - a polyp growing out of my appendix can be removed normally so the doc wants to take out the appendix and potentially the caecum. Sounds like you had something similar. Can I ask what it’s like 2 years later? Any chance to bowl movements etc? How long before you were able to do weights again? Anything else you can share that you wish you knew before the surgery. Thank you.
Hello, yes that’s very similar story. I had zero pains or issues, it was just an odd result of a colonoscopy with a history of family colon cancer. 1) 8 weeks no strength training, you will have plenty of time for that, just stay mobile: walk and move around, the more you do the better/quicker you will feel back to normal. 2) fiber/diet/food choices are going to be the biggest change, will take about a year before your bowl movements become regular. Avoid processed foods all together and take a fiber supplement. I’ll think of more and make an update video.

Should be getting out of the hospital tomorrow and hopefully being home speeds up recovery I get out moving more etc.
Just had a colon resection from intestinal scar tissue, how long did it take to get the strength back? I'm 4 weeks now
Hi Edmon, iv got tough case of Ulcerative Colitis in most my Colon (with strictures) and they are looking to do a total colectomy. nervous but no meds are working unfortunately. how are you feeling now years post surgery
Hello, my procedure was not as invasive as a full colectomy but overall I am feeling good and pain free, aside from my bowl movements being more frequent and not as solid. I wish you the best and good luck going forward!
@@EdmonJiddou thank you for your best wishes. when you say more frequent, how many times are you referring to? also is the stool always loose ?
How did regain your weight back after my surgery I got super skinny
Actually came back within a couple weeks, appetite was low but kind of ate small meals throughout the day. Making sure it didn’t upset my stomach which was hard because everything upset it. 😅
how do you feel now been 2 years or so
Thank you for sharing your journey. This is so much help to our family thank you for making this video.
Im having the surgery on my colon tomorrow there taking 4 to 5 cm of my colon and im really nervous do u have any advise
How did it go? I have had 4 bouts of diverticulitis and will be having a sigmoidcolectomy.
I had 2 ft removed because it was dead and killing me was emergency I had an NG tube in for 4 days after and was not allowed water or food I was so sick and weak was in hospital for a week and 3 weeks head ridden it’s crazy some ppl seem to bounce back fast
Hw r u doing now
did they remove also your appendix?
Yes, appendix is part of the cecum and it was all removed.
@@EdmonJiddou i have Crohn disease too, and i think i will be operated like you
@@EdmonJiddou snap !! Got 2 MRIs next week and I think ultimately this is what will happen. My crohns is also terminal ileum- pain is all appendix area and above x
@@EdmonJiddou I have the same exact surgery done rn I’m on day 3, I just ate toast today for the first time & stomach feels okay for now but damn this is he’s also the staples they put hurt
@@brieestar0307 the more you get up and move around the better you will feel. The staples were uncomfortable but those will be removed in around 10 days. I am 2 years out from mine and things are back to normal besides avoiding certain foods.
Helo sir my husband had this surgery 10 month before now he has dysfunction sexually which is not good for his mental health... Plzzzztell me did u get this type of issues and then how u recocover form them..... Plzzzzz
I did not personally experience this, Tell your husband to get his testosterone levels (blood work) checked by a doctor. The doctor can help by prescribing a testosterone replacement treatment that will get his levels back to normal. Hope this helps.
Thank u for kind reply
Hi, did you use blood thinner after surgery, or any other complications after surgery as I had similar surgery.
I had something similar to what you're talking about when I had emergency surgery for a twisted bowel. I had to spend 12 hours in ICU having blood thinners and they said it was due to a drop in blood pressure during the surgery. The blood thinners are to avoid a stroke.
I was just told today by my GI that my only option is a proctocolectomy. But he said my life will be much better
thanks, I had my diverticulitis colon removed about foot in 2011 since then I feel better
What you eat daily
Bro can a person live hiS life as normal as he waS before or die earlier after removing part of colon or it haS any side effects on man power ?
I'm talking to a doctor about getting this done tomorrow great video
Wow I'm thinking about getting my entire colon r moved I have uc and the medicine I'm taking is apriso and it's supposed to be helping with less bleeding and inflammation my father passed away from colon cancer 12 years ago and I'm definitely gonna have to schedule an appointment with my gi because I need it removed I don't want to be on anymore meds the inflammation is coming and going constantly and I don't want to end up the sameway like my father
Getting your entire colon removed would be a bit aggressive, I do not recommend that. With that said, color issues are frustrating and even a year after surgery I am feeling the effects of 1foot of colon removed.
@@EdmonJiddou do you still feel any inflammation or not? And did you have to wear a stoma bag or you didn't? I'm asking alot of questions to know what to somewhat expect if I do get the surgery however I know that everyone body is different from each other. But I just want to find out the side effects of after the surgery and my doctor told me that it's my left side of my colon with mild inflammation but I'm definitely not gonna wait too long especially like I said colon cancer is what my dad had when he died
@@latonyataylor3461 no inflammation, but I do have to watch what I eat. Most things go right through me. My surgery was around the cecum so I didn’t have to do the bag thing.
@@EdmonJiddou ok your so bless I'm praying that everything will be a positive outlook on my end as well
@@latonyataylor3461 keep me updated on your outcome, good luck and stay positive! Keep moving after surgery that’s the best thing for healing. And if you smoke, I would stop immediately.
I had most of my colon removed back in 2019 since then I can't digest vegetables any leafy greens period it has improved my life in the sense that my colon stopped working now I have more of a life just need to make sure bathrooms always near I lost 15 lbs. right after and it took quite some time to heal so happy for you that it only took a couple of weeks for you to heal best wishes
Do you still pass the bowel often now? I am afraid as my mom is having her sigmond and descending colon removed tomorrow. I am afraid that will affect her life quality in the future. How is your bowel movement now? Please answer.. hope u r okay..
I don't know what your mother's health issues are so I can only speak about my own experience it takes quite sometime to heal maybe age plays a factor the Doctor treating me said that I would be up and running around in 2 weeks that was irresponsible my back was really affected it took several months of acupuncture and other things It absolutely improved my quality of life when I weigh the positive vs. inconvenience I use the bathroom several times a day with stool very watery they recommend a low fiber diet which is hard for me also need to pinpoint where all the bathrooms are for a possible mad dash don't eat before going anywhere and there's an urgency alone of times again this is my experience I'm not a Doctor I wish you and your mother well and I hope this helps💖💖
@@darlenechrist3118 thanks for answering me. May i know which parts of your colon were removed?
@@ollearning4100 I had an innovative surgery I had most of my colon removed then they attached my rectum to the small intestines so basically very little left so really mainly small intestines most of it was done lariscopaclly main scar cesarean section it's not a really common surgery I had in done through Columbia Prespertyrian Hospital best Doctor would've ended up with colostomy bag otherwise
It's great that yo ok, its making me feel that i can still workout
Thank you! One year out and I few great, will be making a follow up video.
@@EdmonJiddou Hey - glad you're doing so well! Would be great to see an update video, especially on how recovery went etc :)
Great video I'm glad your doing ok
I think your body looks better after surgery, not so chunky a lot leaner and more healthy
GOOD FOR YOU !! YOU LOOK FANTASTIC !!!
Thank you! I want to do a follow up video, it’s been a year. I feel great. 🙏🏼
I got a colonoscopy and i got a ball they dint tell me what it is but results comes in 2 weeks but is difficult
Hi… after surgery u did not needed colostomy bag??? Plz reply
Hello, no bag needed. My surgery was located around the secum and appendix and did not need one. Just cut and attach.
Seems to be a thing but sigmoid coming out in January. Thanks for this.
I have that kind of scar too.
Scars a cool. 😅
I would also like to know what you eat
Hey man great video. I've been batting with colitis for about 6 years now (early 30s) my gastro doctor has basicly forced the colon removal on me since no medical drugs are working.. any chance you'd be willing to have a chat threw email ?
Absolutely man, ejiddou@gmail.com that sounds like a pretty drastic move for colitis, that’s very realistic to live with and not have to remove the colon. Hit me up.
I was dealing with a stomach ulcer caused by an H pylori infection (it's a nasty infection that, trust me you don't want to contract) and when they did a colonoscopy to make the diagnosis back in january (along with an endoscopy which detected the ulcer) is when they found four polyps in my colon....they removed two with the scope but the other two need to be surgically removed hence the reason for the upcoming right hemicolectomy procedure coming up this week.
God bless you! 🙏🏾👍🏾
Glad everything’s good!! But what an elaborate way to flex on camera LITERALLY lol
The body does not burn muscle before fat first. C'mon now...
Sir u are my inspiration
How are you doing ?! I’m 10 months out do you get little pains here & there I get scared thinking i have staples inside ! I literally got the same things removed
I feel 100% besides the food that doesn’t agree with me, and gives me trouble. It’s just about sticking with a whole food diet, all processed foods do not agree with me. So I try and stay away, but physically I feel great.
Did it hurt when they removed the staples I’m going day 8 to get mine out
Nah, staple removal is almost nothing since the wound is still numb to the touch. Kind of a light pinching feeling.
I’m on day 3 experiencing nausea no appetite & pain hoping this goes away! The gas pain is also horrible they also did my appendix
I had the same thing a few days ago. The pain subsides after a few days. Eat some fruit like avocado for fast healing.I hope you Will get well soon
@@yonastamirat9502 anything for the gas? My stomachs rumbling in pain
@@brieestar0307 It is expected after anastomosis was done and it takes time to let go
Try belching to relieve the built up gas, walking around as much as possible helps gas work itself out of your system.
