Really?!? Foxes and books and autumn? I'm quite sure I repeat myself, but this is pure perfection (as always). 🧡📚🦊🍁🧡
I'm from Germany and in school I learned the british word "autumn" first. The american version "fall" came later. By the way "Herbst" is the german translation 😉

Being from a country that uses British English and doesn’t experience the four seasons, I’ve never really fully registered that autumn = fall until a friend told me this joke:
Why is autumn Humpty Dumpty’s favourite season? Because he had a great fall!
I have yet to experience fall/autumn but I wish to do so once it’s safe again to travel 🍁

    • @PlantBasedBride

as a recently graduated horticulture student and horticulturalist, I really appreciate the science-based fall facts about trees and leaf color! I feel like not enough people know why and how leaves change color in the fall so this is an excellent intro to botanical education of color pigments and sugars!

Your ideas for monthly themes always blows me away!! The foxes are such a cute addition!
I live in Minnesota, and the colors took their time to shine this year because of the unusually warm weather. This time last year, we had snow and little color at all because it got too cold too fast. Climate change is real, folks!

Mankind is SOLELY responsible for any changes to our climates. In all our industries and technologies and pseudosciences we have created such a domino effect of harm that I am not sure we can recover from unless a HUGE reset happens. On a different note, I have just found at at 58 yo that I am autistic so I feel like a tree that is totally bare that is already shivering just thinking about winter winds. I am a new subbie and I am is AWE of your work.

Love this so much! I was interested in the use of the word Fall, as I had a conversation recently about the different words used for Autumn/Fall. Apparently us English use to call Autumn Fall, until we adopted the word Autumn from the French. Autumn, came to the English via the Old French “autompne”, meaning autumn. This in turn came from the Latin “autumnus”, also meaning “autumn. 😊

My favourite trees are maple trees, because their colours are so beautiful in the autumn. Every year I'm in shock at how gorgeous the gold and orange and red maple trees lining the streets are.
I say autumn, but that's because I lived in the UK as a teenager. In my native language, Norwegian, we say "høst", which literally translates to "harvest", so that's pretty neat.

I love that you love trees!! I thought we were few and far between!! I love oaks. I love the whimsy shape of their leaves. But my favourite feature of the oak tree is its bark. It’s like touching the skin of the forest’s grandpa; wise, protective. The oak will grow big and wide, and provide treats (acorns) like a grandpa would🌳👴🏻

I'm from the US, but I've always preferred saying autumn over fall. Sometimes I'll use fall when I'm speaking to family, just because that's the word they use, but overall I tend to use the word autumn when describing the season. It just feels much more cozy and descriptive, though I can't explain why! The word fall feels like a picture of a tree with golden leaves that are drifting to the ground, but the word autumn feels like actually experiencing those trees turning colors, as well as the fragrant cool breezes and warm apple cider and Halloween and Thanksgiving and NaNoWriMo to me.
