Ian Roussel was missing working on his custom VW in his Full Custom Garage. The inside of the car needs to be built before he can finish the outside. Welcome to our Boring Bits part of the build. We want to show the whole entirety of the build, including the metal fabrication that will not get seen once the car is done and upholstered. It takes appreciating Kustom Cars to a whole other level 👽
There are no rules in car customization, and if there was a rule it would be to go as far outside of the box as your fabrication skills can take you. Ian envisioned a simple and radical solution to this style of door opening. He walks himself and Jamie through the process, with pretty satisfying results. This is only the beginning. Come journey with Ian out of this world fully into the outer space of KUSTOMS. 🛸 🛸 🛸 🛸
"Car Building Is Fun! Lets keep it that way."~ Ian Roussel
The backstory...
Ian has decided to lower this VW Beetle 6 inches to get it to the ground and start radically modifying this beat up 1968 VW Beetle, but like most things that were once going to find the fate of the crusher, he once again proves you can do some amazing things in your garage with some imagination, fearlessness and a willingness to make mistakes as you create. 🥴
His fascination stems from the seemingly limitless customization opportunities for this vehicle. Join Ian on a wild ride through his mind 👽 as he envisions then fabricates his most radical ideas to date.
Ian worked and studied at a bronze casting foundry as a young man, where he learned to create models, armatures, molds and finished sculptural artwork in all mediums and finishes. Ian is fascinated by the artistic process of sculpture. He brings this knowledge to his car customizations, to his TV show audience, and now he brings it to you, his growing RUclips audience.

I'd like to see an air duct molded into the bottom of the roof that starts above the windshield and comes down between the rear windows. A nice slim vent across the entire top of the windshield.
I'm in my 2nd week of recuperation from retina surgery, so I've been rewatching all your old videos while laying on my stomach.
Keep the great content coming!
I like that idea. Slight bulge at the windshield that tapers down at the back and goes inside to meet with the fan inlet.
I like that idea. It makes a lot more sense and less fabrication than having a go all the way from the nose to the back of the vehicle. Good thinking. Take care.
Yep, great idea.
That’s a cool idea, But. You’re wanting cool air to cool the engine and the roof of a car is always hot
@billweinholtz154 I would think the air traveling though would actually cool the roof also the faster the air moves if you create a venturi like a carburetor the air should definitely be colder when it reaches the fan?😮😮
How about using the 'bubbly' rear quarter windows as duct intakes to feed the fan chamber Ian is creating? He could cut open the front of each bubble and scoop fresh air, into (acrylic?) ducts that still allow the windows to let in light and give the driver an occasional glimpse out the blind spot.
At least once an episode, Jamie needs to use her announcer voice, and say, "Full Custom". Like she did in the previous episode. Love the surf music.
The air scoop out the front is a cool idea. Maybe make it look like a turbo inlet.
Ian ive watched you and your builds for years now, I still enjoy everyone of them, keep them coming. From Alabama
Ian can you please do more videos on the VW as I'm really enjoying watching it come together and can't wait to see the finished product 😁
Awesome editing surf music 👽👍
The bugs ilooking totally rad !!
My Mom had a bronze peanut on her keyring when I was a kid! Seeing that was the first time I've seen another one!
so much awesomeness! just ordered my tire inflator, thank you Ian and Jamie!😁🤙🚗
Roof needs 2 fibreglass devil horns to compliment Ian's devilishly designed dune buggy....😈👍🇦🇺🐨🦘🐪🪃greetings from Sth Australia 🇦🇺 👍
The Fanttik pro tire inflator works great on my Harley - we use it before every ride!
I agree, that rechargeable air pump is fabulous but when I use it on a bicycle tire (90psi or so), I lose about 5psi while disengaging from the valve stem. It really needs a clamp-on / quick-release connector instead of the screw-on.
Wow finally more VW. I missed that project. Man. I love this one. Well all your stuff but I'm hooked on this one
I explore old abandoned mines, so that Apache Powder dynamite box is super cool! They used to be down in southern Arizona outside of Tombstone.
Yayyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are picking up sponsors!!!!!!!! You guys are great, you deserve it.
Moving right along, I love Jamie's coordinating the beats in the music to Ian's hammering, excellent ❤ art and music go together very well with you two👽👽
Thank y’all for this invitation to your workshop.
It is such joy watching the process of creativity - no holds bared.
❤
Thank you!
Thanks for your sense of humor teaching method, it makes the learnin' process fun... School wasn't always fun for this older "KiD"
Because even at 70, I have a hard time sitting still without having some project to do, your vids give me some satisfaction as I imaginatively walk through your doings with you. Thanks kind of helps to take off the edge short of me tearing down a house wall to expand my domain😊👌Cool stuff thx
As always, Ian is a freaking genius. Welding skills are hard to match. Ol' time foundry skills at work, and they sure did help this extraterrestrial car making madman what he is today. A freaking genius car builder.
I like your air duct idea - looking forward to seeing how you do it - have seen lots of rear roof mounted scoops. Very cool where you’re taking this bug - nice to play yet function huh. Good on ya - keep on doing what you do, it’s appreciated. Can’t wait to get my inflator😎
Hi there Ian. Great video! I was waiting for another one with the bug. One of your subscribers did come up with a great idea and I think for less fabrication have the scoop on the roof and then have the tunnel going down the roof to cool the fan. I thought it was a great idea anyway. But knowing you you will amaze us with something completely different. LOL. Possibly even put some side vents in. Another fantastic video from you and I look forward to the next one. please take care of yourselves and blessings to both of you from the UK
Great video as always.
The grill and air duct is a great idea.
The Baja bug front end certainly does offer opportunity for a grill.
Please keep the videos coming
Cant wait to see this custom bug crawl then go flying down the road. I found a beele in my backyard today and it was this iridescent black with a rainbow effect that was so cool. You should baint this bug that way it would be bad ass. Have a good one.
Hi Ian, I am a Big Fan Watching your Show, I am Rick from Victoria..AUSTRALIA..I have been Watching your Artistic Works your work is Unbelievably out of this World..Great Works for your Future..Amen
Ian, I was following you step for step, right to the point of your last tack and you took the clamp off, all I can say is Dam! Mr. Roussel, you did it again! When you put the hammer to that sheet of metal it fell right into place as if it was manufactured for connectivity that will be covered and not be seen. thank you
Thanks, love the bronze peanut, can you cast a seamless bronze sphere this way? Guess that's been a mystery, but think your explanation of the peanut may be relevant.
❤
I have that same type of Fan shroud on my rail engine they are very rare and hard to find. A oil cooler would help keep the engine stay cool to.. Love your show
Another fulfilling episode. I loved the look on Ian face on his first pull to take off the roof.
so...
your CJ project appeared to be assembled without throwout bearing being installed on the slip collar as per video.
Hopefully that was an editing oversight...
*longtime fan and truly appreciate this homegrown approach you're sharing here ✅

Alright brother super salesman I just ordered an inflator - very cool and appreciate the recommendation and coupon-Thanks Have one I have to plug in but what a pain so followed your lead. Also cool to wake up Sunday morning to another video you folks put out - what a team and sure enjoyable to watch - Thanks dazzling duo. Be well
IAN, I am SOOOOOO looking forward to you getting back into this TO COMPLETION!!! 😢❤😂
i just bought the Bosch version of the air pump…..and used it…..handy tool to have and effortless….can set desired pressure!
I’m amazed someone with Ian’s skill and talent is intimidated by the English wheel . Ian practice makes perfect have a go son . 🇦🇺💪
Ian your demeanor non your RUclips videos are is so authentic we adore your creativity in staying basic and comprehensible. But this fan wants more of the 1938 Cadillac to be shown , I’m super anxious to see end result
At 69 I remember Sunday morning cartoons where my favorite character survived on their wit and inventiveness. Good show many thanks!
I’m 65 and I remember Saturday morning cartoons and Sunday was church TV but I guess things change in 4 years
Ian “lets find an angel finder “ SQUIRREL or peanut in this case 😂😂. Funny yet interesting very interesting.
Great job again you two 👍
Wow! Look at Jamie! She came right out with that, "English Wheel", response. The young lady is learning very well. Watch out Ian, you'll be in her space soon. 😉 It is amazing watching the bug come together. Watching Ian build his projects is fascinating. 👍
An air duct would be cool, either like a trans tunnel or on the inside of the roof between the split window. Would be very good for airflow and unique 👌
I just want to say thank you both for sharing these videos. I love the pace of the videos, I look forward to updates. Your wife always brings so much love to the videos also, everytime she speaks you can hear how much of a team mate you have. It's a good vibe.
Some folks put panels together and it look terrible, when you do it really looks like something. Great job both of you.
Thanks Professor👏🏽
I learn so much Every time I watch. “..Get yourself into trouble get yourself OUT!..”😁🤙🏼
Ian amazing as always! As an alternative to running a fresh air feed all the way back, integrate a small vent into the rear fenders and a shorter more direct feed is accomplished without sacrificing interior space. As always just a suggestion as nobody can outdo you being you!lol
I love watching you because you do things like I would, work with what you got 😂
Love the little tid bits you two add to the videos. Great job on the VW. I learned longtime ago that "if it looks right, it is most likely right". Jamie your music fits the scene perfectly.
So good seeing the VW back and being worked on
I want you to know that you are an inspiration! If it hadn’t been for you and watching you work so many automobiles I would have never thought about fixing my door latch assembly! I had the bear claw latch put in my truck years ago , they were never installed properly! So I decided to cut the latch out and redo it myself! I watch you cut up stuff with the greatest of ease! Now the door opens like it should! Keep up the good work!
Wally
Hello Ian and Jamie, here present in another super interesting installment from Argentina, winter in full. Bye, bye, thanks !!!!
I WAS ANXIOUS TO SEE YOU WORK IN THE VW AGAIN. AND I WILL LIKE TO SEE THE CAR FINISH. GOOD LUCK FROM BROOKLYN N Y.
cool that was a well spent 28 mins . thanks Quality content
Glad you enjoyed it
Love your work,I’d be proud to own that peanut. I have a extensive collection of military challenge coins.
Thank you for taking us through the tedious process of design and fabrication, it gives me a new perspective of that process.
cheers
Mr. Ian I love your videos. Very interesting story about the peanut. BTW, it's called a bevel square. I have used them a lot when I was employed. Sometimes still depending what I'm working on.
Love the challenge coins, the peanut story was cool too.
That fan shroud is designed to use an external oil cooler. Have you given thought as to where that might go? Project is looking really cool!
You could always do a snorkel hood scoop coming above tge roof at the rear , lan , to send air to the cooling fan 😎👍
I ordered the air compressor. As a 78 y.o. one eyed scoundrel (I drew to an inside straight and lost - cost me an eye) - anyway my neighbor is a semi pro kick boxer on steroids and he has a priceless custom bug that he loves more than lilling folks. I'm gunna let the air out of his front tires. When he comes back and sees it I'll be a hero when I use my new air pump to inflate his tires. He'll return in August - I hope the rims don't crease the tires...
Love your work. Amazing and inspirational.
You should do clear blown bubble, safety, escape hatch, moon roofs, that double as an intake ventilation for the engine. Roof scoops. Clear. Low. Big enough to escape, School bus escape hatch style functionality
I’m obsessed with this bug build! I need new content on it! LOL
Would love to be involved in one of your builds. Love creating. Necessity becomes the mother of invention. Air cooled... i see side side scoops mounted on the sides of top. Plumbed in with flexible stainless duct hose. Like on a clothes dryer. Just one thought of many that swirl around in my head. Have fun. Enjoy the journey. Hoping the glow in the dark tshirts manifest themselves in your store. ✌️🇺🇸
Thanks for sharing you two are just awesome every video keeps getting better
Do over I love the format and you seem much more relaxed love it. Keep on dreaming and building love watching.
I think you should make dual sunroofs so that if you were hit in a way that bent the tubing, pushing the doors out and you couldn’t get out might not work. (pushing them out by hand was difficult with slightly misaligned tubing) , you could go out of the roof
True craftsmanship
I purchased that mini air compressor. It's terrific. I have slow leak in my air bags so great to put in glove box and air up as needed. Quality product👍👍👍😀
Will it fill a 15 in tire to 35 psi from flat 0 ?
Always trust your eyes Ian. Stay cool and 👽. I look forward to the next time
you could put an air induction tube running front to back sitting right on top of the transmission tunnel you got on the floor there to the possible grille you spoke of, and yes that car needs a grille. an upside down t shape of sorts. doing it like this you can hide the air tunnel under an arm rest
Couldn't find angle finder for a project, grabbed 2 icy pole sticks & a bolt - problem sorted.
i love Ians HI TECH tool choices. just goes to show anyone can do it NOT,, you still NEED a skillset Ian has. VISION of what it will look like.. but Ians right his tools are as simple as but he turns out incredible stuff.. 5 star
Again, the metal work is amazing!! I'm kinda a simple guy so how about a bay window nose air vent for the roof b
Preferring yesterday’s thumbnail,,, but I’ll watch!
😂😂😂😂
Thanks for the entertainment , you keep putting it out and I'll keep watching.
Good work buddy. Sometimes mondays last all week Sometimes mondays go on for years you just have to push on through and do what you can..
Two videos in as many days? Take it easy, Kids!!
6 hours after video has been posted 17,000 views epic PEOPLE DON'T FORGET TO HIT THAT LIKE BUTTON!!!!! THANKS JAMIE AND IAN GREAT JOB LOVE THE VW!🤟👽👍🍻🍹
🎉😎😎😎😎😎
great EP! hey what about vent above fender under window to feed air to fan like scoop that cools brakes in sports cars?
NiZe and I'm glad to see even the Great Ones go back and do and redo I do all the frkN time
I am really good video I'm from New Hampshire and I know the where's the Nashville Police department is I brought old memories back
Awesome looking vehicle. You’re doing a fantastic job.
Love all your videos, never a dull moment, Thanks again!
I like your choice of music, very West Coast
Thank you!
So many ideas. Keep up the good work Ian.👍
It's back, gr8 to see you do some mkre work on the bug. Gr8 ep cheers
Hart bubble windows in the VW sides and then the other 2 van bubble windows in the back. Use those van parts :)
Subscribed liked and now commented. Enjoy your vids. Keep up the good work for watching you for years❤🎉😂
Thank you!
I think it would be cool to have air scoops on each side of the roof at the back. Kinda a larger version of what the Super Beetles had.
Watching these videos is a double edged sword for me. While i thoroughly enjoy watching your talent and process, I also get frustrated that my current garage doesn't allow me the room to build and create such things.😢
You could create intake vent between windows inside with air scoop on the back of roof for the air cooler
I love watching Ian and Jamie
I love the format and you seem much more these keep on dreaming and building love watching
Love the mig tig process!
Fanttik, even looks like it packs power, anyway not that it matters but I'm liken the product promotions and it helps pay the bills.
You guys are great. Love all your projects.
I commend you Jamie for not just giving Ian the best of some ornery jokes about his brass (pea)nuts. You could of really had fun at his expense... 😁😆😅
How about hood scoops on each side of the sail panels of roof. Less stuff going through the car. And exaust flex for big rigs to connect everything
Please cover up the engine with a tarp or plastic wraps . Lots dust & dirt can find it’s way in . Greeting to both of you love all what you both do !
It's junk, just a mock up engine.
I too thought a snake had slithered in to help out.
Have you ever seen an angel finder which is in essence a row of steel pins sandwiched between two plates. You use it by pushing it against the desired shape and the pins slide into the sandwiching parts and hold there giving you a good representation of the shape and angles you want? Pretty sure you could make one or buy one. 👍🛸🇦🇺
Yes air duct from the front to feed the cool air.
Hey Ian, dig your videos buddy, I got a good friend that lives up there by you in Frazer park, you may know him?
BRIAN PART...
