OK for those wondering here's your shopping list (in order of appearance in the video; some paints weren't specifically mentioned): 1. 1/700 scale plastic ship model 2. modelling foam or similar easily cut styrofoam that can accommodate the model (A4 size or smaller, about 1"-2", or 3-5cm tall) 3. picture frame that can fit your foam and model 4. a sheet of water colour paper (it has thick substance and usually a sort of pattern on one side) 5. sharp precision knife (x-acto, olfa...) 6. bundle of brushes, ranging from small (0-00) to medium (4-6), both round- and flat-tipped 7. Vallejo 26.211 Acryllics Ground Texture White Stone 8. Vallejo Model Air 71053 Dark Seagreen 9. Vallejo 71.046 Pale Grey Blue 10. Vallejo 71.889 Olive Brown (or 71.888 Olive Grey) 11. Vallejo Model Air 70.808 Blue Green 12. Vallejo Model Color 70.902 Azure 13. Vallejo Model Color 70.820 Off White 14. Vallejo Model Color 70.816 Luftwaffe Uniform WWII 15. Vallejo Airbrush Thinner 16. Vallejo Airbrush Flow Improver 17. Vallejo 26.230 Water Texture Still Water 18. some spare tissue paper
This is BEAUTIFUL!! This water effect is so much simpler than other methods (pouring layers of resin for example) yet produces the same realistic, dramatic results!! Absolutely awesome!!
That water looks so real I want to touch it. I would sure like a to see a lesson on how to make the waves' texture. The painting I think I understand but building it up physically and making natural looking shapes I don't understand as well as I would like. Please make more videos! :-)
Absolutely wonderful. I have virtually finished building Revell HMS Hood as a Christmas present for my father. He originally built it in his teens but I accidentally broke it when I was in my teens - never forgiven myself. I love the detail on the ocean but this is a little bit beyond me. Do you know of anyone who I could ask to do this for me? I'm in London. Thanks so much for sharing.
Jose, really great work, expert paint and effects. Can you share how you sculpted the isolation foam for that rolling sea effect and also what was the model kit that was used? Really beautiful result. Thanks for the video
It's all practice. If you're a ship builder your first few might not be great, but your 10th one will be better than your first, and your 100th will be better than you 50th... :)
The model and the colour of the see look rather stunning. But the waves around the hull and in the wake are not realistic. In the wake there should be a V pattern of transversal and longitudinal waves. The should have an opening angle of 39°(Kelvin Angle) The waves pattern around the hull would change according to speed, but there is definitely a wave crest missing at the bow. The sea in general is very nice. I like this model alot.
Muito bom video Sr. Brito! Uma questão se for possivel responder... cortou a espuma azul com um cortador quente? E se não que utensilo e metodo usou? Muito obrigado
Beautiful work, however, I’d recommend studying the math behind a Kelvin wake and wave form. Typically flow out and away from the hull at about 22 degrees, not tucking in behind or radiating out laterally The bow is fine. But about halfway astern, the wave looks like it’s generated from sideways hull movements rather than simply passing through the water.
I'm going to try it out!!! I only found two (2) of those colors & the 'Still Water' on my on-line HS. Looks like I might have to go shopping @ my LHS!!! It seems SO Much easier than using/pouring All That VARNISH on other builds.... using styrofoam might do the work! AND just a Little bit of T.P. instead of layer-upon-layer that I have seen on other tutorials ( maybe for more inland/beach diorama ). Building a 1/700 USS GALVESTON CLG-3..... I'll re-post, with a link, if the results look good with diorama and ship!!!
Hi can you advice what type of solvent you used to wash away the still water from the brushes please? I tried water the 1st time and it became a clump at the bristles. Then I tried using tinner it became sticky and some did wash off but the rest became 1 sticky mess. Thanks
Also what scale of the model did you use for the ship becasue i need that kind of scale of ship. Can you do it quickly my groupmates are rushing because the submission of our diorama is near so if anyone wants to help by giving tips, that would help us also this is my first time making a diorama and also is cardboard ok for an ocean war scene? (For the borders) Thank You! Also how big is a USS Olympia 1:232 scale?
Very nice, however as a beginner I am at the blind side how you shaped the waves on foam, you should add small text for it as well. At least the info about the tool u used for shaping the foam.
There are a few ways. I thought this vid would show at least one. But anyway you can carve with a long blade knife. You can use on of those "hot wire" tools, or one where you really need to be careful and think about ventilation is to use a plumbing torch. Heating the foam will make it melt and shrink, essentially making it disappear. You can create waves and troughs with it. But be careful! HTH
Muy buen video pero mi proyecto es un submarino aleman en escala 1/72 no emergiendo pero si navegando sobre la superficie del mar, es posible con esta técnica? O debo de usar otro tipo de técnica por el tamaño?
This is beautiful. Is it possible to get similar results when only using a brush? Also, I would like to know the name and scale of the kit used. Thank you!
Not sure about only using the brush, i sapose it would be down to your own skill. but the scale i would say would have to be either 1/600 or 1/700. This is the normal scale for naval models
YOU SIR.....ARE...... AAAAAAWEEEESOME But...... How can I get a hexfield Grid UNDER the water surface wich shines through...... it's for my Aeronautika Game. Will build a "Ocean Dogfight Gaming...... surface"
wouldn't mind if you didn't promote your products so hard. You can use whatever. Doesn't have to be X X #XXXXX from your company. Thanks. Well done tho.
Its their own channel. It makes sense that they're marketing their own products. Plus it creates a reliable source of materials for people to acquire vs naming name brands or products that might not be available globally

SUPERIOR!!! Nice listing!!! Thanks for doing that leg work!!!!
This is BEAUTIFUL!! This water effect is so much simpler than other methods (pouring layers of resin for example) yet produces the same realistic, dramatic results!! Absolutely awesome!!
Beautiful work. You're very talented.
Real artistry. You have a good eye and high skill.
finally something good looking and not ridiculously complicated for sea!
Excellent video . Thank you . for the help .
You're very welcome Genaro! That is what we're here to do :)
Very well done sir.

Really amazing! You’re so right, the end result is gorgeous!
Uaooooo! Outra grande classe do "El Professor" José Brito ! / Another master classes of "El Professor" José Brito
Muito bem José Brito, ficou fabuloso! Parabéns
Magnífico!!!me encanta este diorama.😉
Nice job. Now how about doing this in larger scale, like 1/35? The schnellboot perhaps?

Sorry David, maybe artists around here can help you with this. Or maybe you can try to do that at home ;) you can do it!!!!!!!! ;)

Buen trabajo¡¡ muy fino el curro¡¡
Precioso, una obra de arte!
1:00 Missing footage? Did you cut the waves in the foam?
Yes, he did.
Fantastic, but also a great modeller needed to do this properly and realistically.
It's all practice. If you're a ship builder your first few might not be great, but your 10th one will be better than your first, and your 100th will be better than you 50th... :)
Practice makes perfect !

Great video, but it could use one more thing: a summary of paints and tools used, either in the beginning of the video, or in the description.
Wow! Great job! Any other suggestions for bigger scale like 1/350 or 1/100?
That is indeed highly realistic!
========================================
Thank you so much! :)
was ground texture white stone used to permanently attach the ship,or make water at the hull line,or both,?
Really great. Abo done.

Thank you so much for your comment and also for this explanation! 👏🏻
This is amazing!
WOW, so simple and so real...
Hi Ondra,
Thank you very much for your comments.

Thank you Gary! :)
Amazing!
Can you use cotton

Awesome !!!!
Amazing

Hi, the ship is From Flyhawk in scale 1/700. Regarding the size of the USS Olympia in 1/32, maybe it will be biiiiig...
Awesome
Fantastic❤
What plastik model kit are You usinig for this diorama?
what are the paints did they use
Music name ?

Thank you very much. Helpful
Just looking at their ground texture vid. It's obvious in that one that he used a hot wire. So I'm guess its the same here...

what is separation foam ? ur shopping list implies styro foam, but the separation foam doesn't look like it..

Konstantinos V. It looks like a Flyhawk Models HMS Campbeltown in 1/700
Hi every one, i have a question, can l use vallejo colors with brush, and can l use water as thinner?
1st . Wow so realistic
Again, no one cares you're first. Grow up.
Harry Marshal :why cry be persistent & you will be 1st one day also
*ultra realistic
Congrats for the 1st comment :D
I had some problems , if your diorama is too long ,The foam base will warp due to the deformation of dry watercolor paper.
i need to make one of these, maybe for a surfacing U-Boat...
Thomas Leaf Nice Idea! Also, do you know the name of the kit used in the video? I believe its the an 1/700 Campbeltown but im not sure...
i don't recognize the model. my naval recognition is woefully lacking
Nice! Anyone know what scale that ship is?
1/700 (HMS Campbeltown from Flyhawk)
YOU SIR.....ARE......
AAAAAAWEEEESOME
But......
How can I get a hexfield Grid UNDER the water surface wich shines through...... it's for my Aeronautika Game. Will build a "Ocean Dogfight Gaming...... surface"
should of made the water blue would of bring out the contrast but its still really nice.
Это круто!!!
HMS Campbeltown, after taking fire and raising the white ensign in the Loire estuary.
Wow
That spinning at the end was not good
WHY DONT US RESINE?????????????????????????????????????????
OBSOLED
the front waves are too wide, as if a container ship was sailing there
굿
