Just beat Metaphor earlier tonight. Holy hell, what an experience. I got chills when the Akademia theme kicked in. Made this truly feel like the culmination of the journey.
The final boss being named Destroyer Charadrius, drawing the parallel of the myth that a Goldfinch would catch the disease of anyone it looked at to Louis using the anxieties of the people to fuel his magic and ultimately being consumed by it is just genius.
I do think Louis's similarity with Lucifer is serve as his deconstruction, showing that how much worse his goal of freedom and his "might make right" ideal can bring to the world even if he's a lesser of evil in most SMT games.
That's because they normally try and portray Luci as a "lesser of two evils" at worst, and an unsung antihero at best, while Louis, for all his sympathetic motivations, is an unambiguous villain throughout.
Louis (Cyphre) is basically just Luci, the Masks of Drama open up just like Hari-Hara, this game is essentially a mix of almost everything Atlus has done in the past three and a half decades.
i see it more of a welcome back the genesis from persona 4, the song is just a build-up for a more dramatic version of one of the main leitmotifs to play
And it fits so much better here, since Louis’s dark magic is directly stated to be the exact opposite of Archetypes. Nyx, on the other hand, has basically nothing to do or in relation with the Velvet Room.
I fought him on hard mode without destroying any of the crystals so I wound up having to swap out Strohl and Basilio often just so they could keep up the pace without being debuffed to hell. Both are the damage dealers of all time

louis has to be one of the best villains in any atlus game. he was seriously chaos incarnate, the most based SMT antagonist to ever exist, and he's not even in an SMT game.

He even finds his assassination attempt amusing, because he had all his bases covered. Agree or disagree with him, you've gotta respect such a thorough man.

Good song, but.... Spoilers below I love Metaphor for 90% of its run time, but I felt the end fight with Louis, his ultimate motivations and the last few cutscenes, were not done well. My principle problem with the end of the game is that Louis devolves into a stock-standard "I wanna be God / I wanna destroy the world" JRPG megalomaniacal villain, like Kuja from FF9. His stated motivations and his actual plan run completely counter to each other in a way that is infuriatingly obvious. He wants a fair world, in which the Strong prevail by their own strength - but he says to those who follow him that he will be their protector (which is a straight up lie, as he will turn most into humans and let them kill each other - so much for detesting lies). He says that his motivations grew from seeing his village destroyed and that he would do anything to stop that injustice from happening - but why is he moaning about that, as it was just the strong exerting their will over the weak, the EXACT thing he says is fair? His "fair world" is just, "The Rule of the Jungle" and nothing else. Any tactic, any power, any skullduggery, any abuse of power by those who have it over those who don't, is the strong eating the weak - so what is he going on about how the world is cruel and unfair and how the hell would his plan, his world, differ from that in the slightest? It's school-boy philosophising, it's fundamentally stupid, backwards and full of obvious contradictions. You might say that's what the writers intend, but if so, it's still disappointing. He turned out be a nothing villain, with a brain-dead plan and no actual principles. He's not interesting. He's just a well spoken barbarian using pretty words to justify smashing his club against anyone he can. You could make that point against a lot of real world philosophies and governments, true. But they do a better job of disguising it. Louis doesn't. It's painfully obvious to see he's full of crap.
You have to consider his anxiety. All of his established ideals fell apart bc of the prince and his lodestars' actions and the prince's ideals is much more stronger than his, yet Louis deny his ideals. Towards the end, he tried everything just to uphold his ideals, including contradicting it. He became a slave to his anxiety, thus he succumbed to the "Archetype" power and became "Human" with the Royal Scepter, that holds the masses' anxiety. His manner of speech also reflects this, from the beginning to the end. In the end, Louis Charadrius cannot uphold his initial ideals bc he's scared of the prince and his ideals born from fantasy.
He's obviously the real Villain of the game and the blonde haired is actually the good guy and then you fight him and he's actually God or something. Woke garbage game.
@ I had maxed out all of the Royal Archetypes, had done some build crafting, and was level 99 lmao. A Charged up Physical hit from MC or Basilio would do 13k-15k. I also had someone with repel all magic accessory which meant Louis basically never got a turn to hurt us for more than 80 damage. The reason I was level 99 was because I wanted all Archetypes maxed out so I can get the ultimate weapons and be ready for Regicide and the Super Boss.
@@eyoshinthemaximum lmao yeah that checks out, i had all of the royal archetypes but my team was only around levels 78-80, wasn't really using charge on account of only one of my party members doing phys damage, and had no idea that a repel all magic accessory even existed wanton destruction and modified dragon god summon ftw

Louis has honestly surpassed both Adachi and Maruki as Atlus’s best villain
easily
I still like maruki more but louis is definitely up there
I’d still say Maruki is top but Louis is a close 2nd with Adachi behind him
@@kostasspirou1010why because he is benevolent, I personally don't find maruki a great villain, he is just a great character I don't like a villain that is too nice it just doesn't feel right, not only is Louis is so charismatic but he is a villain the entire game, and he is always on our Thorn.
I don't treat maruki as a villain tbh, he doesn't earn that, he is just a great character and that's it.

I was very under leveled with no items left, almost no mana on 5 characters and no strategy to speak of.
Managed to end him with Basilio spamming symbiosis attacks inflicting weaknesses, Hulkenberg with her royal Archetype tanking for everyone, Heismay cheesing whole turns by just existing and my MC using the few items I had left to support and debuff.
Got him in 6/7 turns with the final attack being a regular attack from my MC.

In the true spirit of a hero.

Because it kinda is.

Louis was adopted by Guiabern's family. So, what's his original name, you ask? Think we all knew from the start that 'twas Louis Cyphre
Sorry for this... But isnt his name Charybdis, the ship named after his late family that died in the **************?
@@charlesdean5750 You mean Charadrius? Well, maybe, but I think not. The old lady, who tells us elda`s history only mentions that Louis was the lone survivor in the incident, but never anything about his family. And Louis himself by the time we actually speak with him is already too insane to tell us anything usefull.
@@Totemikus no, lady Gruidae does talk about Louis and his family, she says they were doctors and their last name was Charadrius. During the final dungeon, in the first boss fight with Louis he's literally called 'Archdemon Louis Charadrius'

do i feel a little spoiled by listening to it? sure. it's probably more's boss theme when he inevitably betrays you (just making a prediction). but still i don't mind listening to this early, it's too good.
edit: well my prediction was wrong. you do fight more but he's not really evil. i thought this would be a more boss fight theme because of the akademia leitmotif but i'm still very satisfied with this being the final boss theme.
This really gives you a feeling of becoming a king after you overcome all the difficulties
ah yes, the theme of Basilio Lupus Magnus.
...kinda weird that they played it for the final boss though
Is this a leaked song?!
Maybe
it absolutely is. its a banger tho.
Good song, but....
Spoilers below
I love Metaphor for 90% of its run time, but I felt the end fight with Louis, his ultimate motivations and the last few cutscenes, were not done well.
In the end, Louis Charadrius cannot uphold his initial ideals bc he's scared of the prince and his ideals born from fantasy.
akademeia???? well ig from the trailer it's kind of forshadowing more is not all good... theres a reason he was imprisoned

The reason I was level 99 was because I wanted all Archetypes maxed out so I can get the ultimate weapons and be ready for Regicide and the Super Boss.
@@eyoshinthemaximum lmao yeah that checks out, i had all of the royal archetypes but my team was only around levels 78-80, wasn't really using charge on account of only one of my party members doing phys damage, and had no idea that a repel all magic accessory even existed
