Konstantin Kisin is a Russian-British comedian, podcaster, writer and social commentator. He made international headlines in 2018 by refusing to sign a university “behavioural agreement form” which banned jokes about religion, atheism and insisted that all humour must be “respectful and kind”.
Konstantin is a regular contributor to BBC, ITV and TalkRadio. Frequently described as an "objective voice from the centre of the political spectrum", he regularly writes for a wide range of publications, including the Telegraph, Spectator and Quillette. When listening to you two i got the impression that if you talked about the USA you could ask the same questions. How did democracy fail in the west?
Exactly, to me Putin seems like a better leader for his country than any of the current crop of Western leaders who are pathetic globalists who sell their own countries out all the time... This guy is going to get a wake up call when the authoritarianism that has been below the surface in the West for so long finally takes the mask off and shows its face...
The US is a lot less democratic than the Russian, IMHO. They are closer to a corpocracy, ruled by large businesses and their minions in the government at all levels
Corruption, example, Peelosi, follow the money!!!
Speaker of the house, decides what bills get voted on when, now remember a bill simply sometimes is just the passing of Government Contracts.
So Peelosi, invest in company A , even tho company B offers better services at lower prices. But Peelosi has stocks in company A . So she sets frwrd a motion to grant company A new government contracts to do whatever, the company gets let's say a trillion dollars to provide whatever it is they provide.
But the company wanting to thank PEELOSI, make huge profits, because let's face it its Taxpayers money so who cares if we over bid, and stuff their pockets with tax dollars. As their stocks go through the roof, and they give themselves big bonuses, also give Peelosi, their support weather or not they agree with whatever she is pedaling. Plus the take some of those tax dollars set it aside and donate it to the Peelosi, campaign funds. Now Peelosi is so happy, she tells company A what can I do for you, after all they have given her so much, and that cycle starts over again. And Peelosi just keeps investing more and more driving those stocks up and up.
More and more contracts for company A , with promises of passing this law or that law and these laws also helping drive up the value of company A stock, but more importantly Company A now has evidence of faul play and Peelosi padding her pockets with dirty money and company A has a brother sister husband wife aunt uncle who all have something the government needs to issue contract for so Peelosi pushes for these companies to get the Government contracts, all while she buys stock from these companies or maybe the stocks are just a kick back for her helping them whatever the reason they get the contracts from the government and Peelosi gets even Richer off these new deals she owns stock in & the house speaker claims she isn't insider trading, I mean how could she , she had no idea these companies where going to get these contracts right? Or did she tell the other house Democrats to vote for company A and she would give her support to other contracts for other members of congress? And the corruption keeps on spinning and fools keep voting for the same corruption year after year. Until or if the AMERICAN people figure it out and figure out the elite will never willingly step down, They have to be forced out at the polls by we the people, and we need to ignore their cry that we need experience, the experience of them to keep ripping us off unfairly.
So if you are old enough to vote go look at how long your representative have sat in DC , find candidates who will pass laws ending this kinda corruption but yet will go back 50 yrs and arrest anyone involved in this kinda activity.
That's easy. Russia doesn't have democracy because of culture. America doesn't have democracy because its constitution allows for a completely unrepresentative senate, so the will of the majority of people isn't represented. Very sad.

@@paulsweet6235 Regarding MSM, as much as in the West or less, because of historically distinctive distrust to the official news. That's why almost non-moderated VK, non-regulated Telegram channels and overall chats in messengers are very popular among all ages.

Democracy didn't just fail in Russia, it failed everywhere. Is it any surprise that the age of democracy coincides with the general decay and decline of western countries also. Once upon a time, Britain ruled a quarter of the globe and it did so without being a democracy.
@Dexter Jettster Yup. The success of Rome depended upon its aristocratic structure. The senators respected the plebians and the plebians in turn respected the senators. Ironically, the landed aristocracy of Britain was a lot like the Roman senate. They were incredibly loyal to the country and fought in pretty much every war since the Norman conquest. They lost many of their sons in WW1 and WW2 only to be booted out by the politicians who are incidentally controlled by the merchant and globalist elite. Society is always driven by the elite and the underlying power structure. The aristocracy had a country but the globalists have no country, they only care about their shares, stock prices and spinning mills.
Good luck trying to get Rishi Sunak to send his kids to fight when the next war breaks out.
Hans Herman Hoppe analyzed it in Democracy: The God That Failed. Basically it's a race of the most ruthless demagogues for a limited time in power where all incentives are short-term, hence democracy prefers short-term solutions. The politicians need to quickly reap their rewards, they focus more on buying favors in interest groups that have power to prop them up (both lobbyists and citizens) and the consequences of their reckless behavior will be dealt to their successors.
He compares that with other sub-optimal system which is monarchy that has important advantage in making incentives long term since monarch deals with his and his children's ownership. It's free in audio version.
@@jansvoboda4293 Haven't read it but I have seen Hoppe's interviews, so I am familiar with this argument. Thomas Hobbes made similar arguments in the Leviathan as well.

How would you even maintain a democracy in any case? The leader could just lie to the masses.
Democracy didn't fail in Russia, they just define it differently. They define it as a system of government where the people get out in the elections and pick their representatives and the president. The problem is, this is not how democracy is defined in the West. Here, democracy is defined as a system of government where the American embassy controls the press and pre-selects the politicians who are "democratic", meaning, they will serve American interests and not the interests of the people. The people are then allowed to pick one of the few pre-approved candidates, and if they fail and elect an un-American candidate, they are bad un-democratic people and have to be punished with sanctions.
So, it's not that Russia has a problem with democracy, it's that you're not able to recognize democracy and accept that people actually have the right to elect the leaders you don't like.

Western-style democracy did since it didn't fit the Russian society and its psyche, it was only there in the 90s when the country was at its weakest point, where then-president Yeltsin was viewed as too friendly to the Americans under Bill Clinton.

This is far from truth. I mean it can be Mr Kisin's opinion, but it lacks objectivity to what really is going on. I will start with "people didn't own anything, they were allocated things." It was only in regards to housing. But you could also get a country house additionaly to your town or city apartment. And even though it's true that in the period of Perestroika things had been very corrupt, but it's a mistake people didn't want money, they needed to eat after all. But that certain people who managed to get their hands on state property and resources, it is just natural that there were some agreements made. For the most of the folk it was a survival mode.
Weird that Kisin's family left Russia right that moment, so I guess they liked Soviet totalitarian Moscow better than capitalist one.
And again, he describes Russia of the 90s when he left, it is not like that at all any more.
When he talks about support and the correlation, he loses his point there, trying to fulfil his narrative. and that is why I think so: he could have agreed with the interviewer, but he momentarily snaps into polls, mentioning that they are probably untrue (why mention them at all then?), it is not true that there is no access to other than state media - you can totally get access to it, it is just brought to a viewers knowledge that it is being funded from abroad.
Regarding these Z letters and kindergartens and schools, these were some 1-2 occasions of some crazy patriots doing that, but it is not common as well as it is not centrally imposed.
After all, teacher have the right to teach as they see fit in some occasions.
Anyways, as a British citizen, who lived in USSR till his was 11, I don't think he has all the information or is a valid source, even if he has friends there =D
Why should democracy have succeeded in Russia when it has failed everywhere else?
What many don't realize is that Ukraine is doing all those things too. The first casualty of war is truth.

LOL, whose democracy failed? Russia has democracy for the very first time in their history. Which is never perfect but in their case pretty good. Some first time democracies included slavery and civil war.

It's like Konstantin said here, but the other way around.
To my thinking, a country requires agreement on a number of foundation values in order to build and maintain democracy. If they don't exist, a democracy cannot work. While in the western countries we have 'democracies' I believe we are currently being pushed by those that consider themselves our 'cultural elite' into what one of John Anderson's recent guests termed "Cultural Totalitarianism", which completely undermines those foundation values of democracy. Countries like Russia, most Middle Eastern countries etc do not even have the foundation values for democracy, while our foundation values are being eroded and/or ignored. Too many very greedy people who want power and control and money.

Can someone explain to me what is an independent tv or radio network? Can I get an example of one tv or radio station that is owned by "the public" and it's main goal is to deliver the truth and not the agenda of its sponsors?! Most people over 50 get their "news" from the TV and from my experience they say what they are told from above!

People as old as 50 y.o. are getting their news from small blogs and many of my 25~ y.o. friends don't even have a TV. Only the oldest generations are still watching TV.
Also, the fact that there was plenty of evidence presented in Russia that all the stuff that went down in Ukraine since 2014 was Western intervention. Now that the war broke out, western political class are admitting this themselves.
So even tho Putin's regime is corrupt, you don't get much incentive to turn on him when all he does is respond to external existential threat.

When a majority of citizens disagrees with economic elites or with organized interests, they generally lose. It has not won in the West either. I am not sure people chose themselves that they want their kids to be educated about transgenders and lgbt.
American democracy comes from deep English roots. With that you get Republicism, Puritans/Protestant religion and deep commitment to individualism.
Founders made America far better without a King and a Constitutonal Democracy
The US has a lot of problems though, now they are fighting over identity politics, People in the US seem very divided. Huge problems with homelessness, drugs, rampant crime, riots and mass shootings every day.
