Oh - really?! That´s amazing!! Then you´re also from Ireland, i guess!? And is your father still alive? You probably know, that Clannad started their farewell tour!? (they had to interrupt it of course due to covid)
Truly inspiring, and my grandpa used to feed those seagulls in the beginning of the video, your dad and his team made us all a favour for letting us take a glimpse on clannad and Enya’s younger days.
Who could have know that little Enya would go on to sell more than 80 million albums, win four Grammy Awards and become the fifth best selling female artist of all time? It’s so interesting to see her go from such humble beginnings to being the literal queen of her castle.
Only performances with Enya at the keyboars are from 1981, everything else you see is from the CLANNAD repertoire from the '70s (1970-1980), when CLANNAD was playing exclusively the Folk tunes, in their arrangements, before starting their own compositions in the early '80s....and, a big hit - "Harry's Game" in 1982. Enya here sings in 1981 "The last rose of summer"...ect, she was the member of the band only between 1980-1982
Amazing to see Enya that young. And the dreamy peaceful gaze she already had, that would later translate to her music. Both enya and clanned's music calm my nerves system💚 their music is a gift to the world
This is truly far more about Clannad, in which Enya was a part of for only a couple of years. It does add some insight to Enya's role at the time, but it was a limited role. There's no doubt that she was lovely and her shyness is evident during those scenes when she is shown.
It's rather interesting to see (at 15.20) Ireland's top solo artist/musician left to play two thumps on the bongos at the back, whist everyone else is singing with instruments at the front! Life, eh?
Sehr schöne erinnerung , ich hab Clannad oft gesehen und da ich auch Musiker bin habe ich mal mit Clannad vor einem Konzert mit in Ihrer Garderobe ne Session gemacht ,so Mitte 70iger .
Is clannad performing Or Are they having A break frm All their musical expertise, Artistically, concerts Or intimate shows that you may know thanks it's great you jammed, played with All these melodically gifted, lovely folk🍀💚🍀
Ich habe gelegentlich hier in Berlin mit Noel und Pádraig in Sessions gespielt. Die beiden waren damals, vor allem in den 90ern, öfter hier um mit Thomas Loeffke und/oder Norland Wind zu spielen.
I’ve never been to Ireland. I don’t even know if it still looks the same as it did here 40 years ago. But seeing the rolling waves as Clannad play the traditional Gaelic music is just…it’s like a fairy tale. A dream. What magic! 🍀
It is much the same but only on the extreme coast. Dunquin, Ballydavid in county Kerry, the Aran Islands off Galway or Gweedore in Donegal. Go to Ireland. Do it, you will love those areas..
Clannad were/are extraordinary. Magical and almost mythological soundscapes and vocals. Though I cannot understand Gaelic, it adds to the mystique for me
I understand no German and can maybe pick out some random words from the narrator. But I am thoroughly enjoying the music, the scenery, and seeing this early version of Clannad. What an incredible treasure. My heart is overjoyed. Thank you for this !!!! ❤
Vielen Danke fur diese musik!THANKS A MILLION FOR GIVING US IRISH ABROAD TO ENJOY THE CLANNAD AND ENYA WHEN SO YOUNG!more ,more, please!Saoirse Eireann!☘️✌️🇮🇪
Traditional irish music is so beautiful. America is such a different world. I think because all my ancestors, including my grandpa, were born in Scotland….I have this deep connection to traditional music from that part of the world. It just resonates very deep within my soul.
Unglaublicher Fund. Vielen dank dafür! Ich verfolge die Musik der ganzen Familie schon für immer umd sie haben mich auch in meiner eigenen Musik sehr geprägt.
What is funny here, is Enya is so far back you barely recognize her. She is the sister of the lead singer, Moya. And she became, up to this point in time, the greatest solo singer, song writer and composer in Irelands history. And she was an absolute goddess, beauty wise, in my mind at least, not to mention her genius. I am a retired, PhD millionaire. Back then then I was struggling when this movie was made. But maybe if I had met up with her back then, hmmm? I think I would have really liked that.
My dear heart welcomed their music into my life as soon as I heard it so many decades ago. I have been truly blessed to have been a fan of Clannad and Enya. May new generations discover them and treasure them. ❤
You mean... While she was in the recording and production of Watermark ?...It's plausible. Hard to picture her now doing this but, back then, it's very likely, especially in her family's tavern. Cheers 🍻
@@brunobailly7013 I didn't believe it at the time, it's only due to the fact that I was being shown gweedore by a family who were from there and knew Leo that I believed it, it only really impacted on me years later
Many thanks for sharing this video. The quality of my VHS is really bad at the time. So I'm very happy to watch this amazing documentary in a really good quality.
An ancient voice belonging to an ancient people. In the dark looks, handsome and pretty, the people of Donegal have preserved something of a bronze age inheritance , and genetically as well, this area of the world, locked into a rugged corner of Northern Ireland, beside squawking seagulls and the salty air of the Atlantic, these people's blood, more than anywhere else in Ireland, flows out of Spain, and much further back to the Levant, and the music has a certain Biblical enchantment, a kind of hold on the senses, that may have once assuaged the pain of the wives of the fallen O'Neil warriors, for it is too the land of the O'Neil, the famous tribal dynasty that ruled over Ireland's past for nearly 2000 years. It is a land of warriors and Saints, and two of the most famous, Saint Patrick and Saint Columba, are also tied to the history of Donegal. Such is the land that gave birth to Clannad.
As someone who has all of Enya's albums, this seems to me like a prequel of sorts, a glimmer of the greatness that the cute raven-haired brown-clad girl on the far right of the stage is destined for. 😎👍

Maybe I'm nit picking here, but there is very little mention about Enya in this documentary, you should change the title to Clannad and Moya ... it is mainly about her older sister Moya ( Maire Ni Bhraonain ) , the leading singer and harp player.. Enya was playing electric piano and she was a secondary singing voice
It is July 4, 2024. Looking at these videos and wondering why the question now being commonly heard is: " Enya and Clannad ARE RELATED???" It was not that long ago that the common understanding here in the States was that they had no connection and were, in fact, musical rivals.
The making of this documentary is the reason why i became a fan of Clannad (and later Enya), because my father was the cameraman who filmed this.

When I was there in 2003, I could have sworn I was back in 1970s rural Kentucky ... Peaceful, serene, and 2-lane roads as far as the eye could see.
Listening to Clannad's music is as relaxing as laying next to a babbling brook. Serenity.
It’s not the same at all . About 30% of population are non nationals. In a few years you will only hear Irish music in the touristy pubs
That last comment is hate filled nonsense. Please ignore.
