Masterpiece! This is my favorite Geoff video. The acting, singing, range, set, makeup and commitment were A+. So beautifully haunting! He is the Pumpkin King.
"Can we give a round for the guy who did the background?"... oh, we did. Geoff outdid himself on the set design. He took the chance to buy a few more Hallow's Eve decorations. We are lucky Kathy enjoys the holiday almost as much as he does.
Where Geoff did the belt ("Scream like I can"), this was in mixed voice. Geoff is unique in how he can go into a head voice register (like he did in the beginning) in a part of his range where he can also use chest voice. But can do a mixed voice at the top of his chest voice register to get to those higher mixed belts, without having to do a flip from chest... makes for a smoother transition. This is why Geoff can do what he does; he can use different techniques within what is within his chest voice range. He does something similar at the bottom of his range, too. He uses chest-fry, fry, and subharmonics in an area of his voice that he can also do pure chest voice. He is as versatile as they come.
Geoff did the set. Some of the props were old, used previously, some were new. Geoff has done stage work for Disney, I think he met his wife Cathy that way as she performed too. Geoff did a similar thing in The Headless Horseman, and that was some years ago , and done with just Cathy. It's probably better to pause rather than commenting over the singing.
Hehe! "These are all his wonderful Patrons?" No, these are just the top 2 tiers of his Patrons - there are 4 more payment tiers below these, with lesser costs to get into them, so much more Patrons in those lower levels. The ones he names are the very top tier patrons - I think that tier maxed out about 2 hours after he opened it up!
That note is an E1 subharmonic 😉 And yes, Geoff is his own video editor My favourite part of his editing was noticed by patrons, but I've not seen a reactor notice: Zero going BEHIND the piano leg.
This was an awesome cover. Geoff usually does the set work himself if he is not doing it at Pattycake Studios (owned by Layne Stien of Voiceplay). Geoff's wife Kathy usually helps him and so does Eli Jacobson (from Voiceplay). If you want to see more of Geoff's 5 octave range, I recommend you watch Oogie Boogie Song by Voiceplay. He has also done a cover of Ain't No Sunshine by Bill Withers where he sings with his clones. And I recommend to always watch til the end when the Patreons roll. There is sometimes surprises. And yes, his wife did Zero.
Huldra Draco has some wonderful Geoff / VP early years clips (Thank you Huldra!). One is of Geoff and Kathy in a Beetlejuice Review with Geoff as the Frankenstein monster. Kathy had to stop performing due to hearing loss - Geoff and Kathy have a great video talking about hearing loss and dealing with it. Well worth watching.
And while Geoff is the monster, Kathy plays the bride. And this was well before they got married to each other. I'm not positive it wasn't before they began dating even. There is also another familiar face in that video. At least familiar if you have seen early VoicePlay. Tony Wakim (who once was the VP baritone before J None who was before current baritone Cesar) plays Dracula in that show. He is co-owner with Layne Stein of PattyCake Productions, where this (and many of Geoff's and VoicePlay's videos are) was filmed.
Geoff did the set himself at PattyCake with help from his wife and some help moving things. But the concept and design was all Geoff and his wife or at least it seems that way from the behind the scenes video 😅 Rick Underwood did his makeup.
It's not head voice (rather a mixed type) he's using and subharmonics aren't the lower end of the chest voice scale, but a complete different approach. "Scream like I can" isn't his upper end (it's belted, not head voice) as Geoff's range is B0-A5 by what I read recently.
I have never seen Nightmare Before Christmas, I only know the four songs that Voiceplay has done and this one. He and Kathy bought that stack of jack-o'-lanterns, when they got to Pattycake Layne told him they already had that stack, so he had twice as many to use. Geoff frequently puts a hopeful touch on his very sad songs, hence the snowflakes at the end. For more of that, try his version of Man of Constant Sorrow.
This is my favorite song from the movie. There is such a wistfulness both in the lyrics and in the music. As others have stated, VoicePlay has done four from the movie in prior years as part of their Halloween releases. A lot of people will suggest the cover of Oogie boogie because of those last notes where he descends from his higher register all the way down to what at that point was his lowest note. But my favorite is the slide he does as Ursula the sea witch in their Little Mermaid medley. It’s all done within one word. He does some great belts and the Oogie Boogie release, but my favorite is the one he does in their Queen in 5 Minutes medley. I am thoroughly enjoying your reactions, and the almost giddy responses to some of his more spectacular vocal acrobatics.
Don't know how I missed seeing you before. Most VoicePlay/Geoff reactors usually pop up for me. Oh well, better late than never! Subscribing now to watch your journey into them. My fave part in this one is that 3-part '...Scream Like I Can...' Great both visually and audibly!
Hi! 👋 😊 New subscriber here. Liked to see your reaction to Geoff’s version of Jack’s Lament. So I’ll subscribe and wait for more Geoff and VoicePlay reactions. Geoff is releasing a new video today - Unshaken. The same cowboys he represents in the new video is used in his Ghost Riders in the Sky. Another pair of same characters are used in Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold and in I See Fire. Wonderful works, all of them. For VoicePlay videos (as for Geoff’s), I would say there isn’t a single bad one. My favorites by VoicePlay are Creep, Nothing Else Matters, Dream On, Seven Nations Army and Carry on Wayward Son. Keep on the good work! 😊👍
That's awesome welcome! And thank you, I will definitely get into voiceplay soonish, but am slowly working through Geoff catalog first for the most part, I might delv into voiceplay aswell from Time to time also
You might like his book/poem narrations on his RUclips channel. His voice is just perfect for all the spooky and not so spooky pieces he narrates. I think my favourite is his narration of “the legend of sleepy hollow” though I rarely get to the end of the 80 min video as his voice lulls me to sleep almost every time.
Oh interesting, I didn't know he did that, for sure I definitely will, I listen to a fair few autio books and audio dramas so I'm sure I would love that thank you
Geoff and his wife Kathy do all the sets themselves. With some help from Layne and Tony and Pattycake Productions were this and most of his other videos are filmed. Yes. That was Kathy. She is also Production Manager for him and Voiceplay. It took 4 guys to move and setup the piano... Layne, Tony, the camera guy and the camera assistant while Geoff was getting his makeup done. Everything is done by Geoff except intricate makeup by Rick Underwood, lighting by Eli and audio mixing by Ed Boyer. Geoff and Voiceplay are great actors because they all performed in shows at Disney World and Universal Studios in Orlando FL where they live. That's also why they have the range and clarity they have. Nightmare Before Christmas videos Voiceplay did... What's This, This Is Halloween, Oogie Boogie Song and Kidnap The Sandy Claws.
Such an incomplete list. Geoff has msny dozens of song videos to his name. If you're mostly in a halloween mood, make sure you catch The Headless Horseman, and especially Monster Mash
@@williamswidal1318 I know. But he said he loved Nightmare Before Christmas so I gave him the names of the other NBC videos they did. I've been watching Geoff and Voiceplay for 2 years. All of their videos are phenomenal. Including his newest video that's on Patreon right now. It will probably be released to the public either the 8th or 15th. It is absolutely beautiful. He brought back the ghost riders from "Ghost Riders In The Sky"...... Goff, Daryl, Jeoph and Jeff (the order in the new video). In Ghost Riders In The Sky they are..... Jeff, Daryl, Geoff, Goff and Jeoph.
Masterpiece! This is my favorite Geoff video. The acting, singing, range, set, makeup and commitment were A+. So beautifully haunting! He is the Pumpkin King.
Agreed he did a wonderful job!
"Can we give a round for the guy who did the background?"... oh, we did. Geoff outdid himself on the set design. He took the chance to buy a few more Hallow's Eve decorations. We are lucky Kathy enjoys the holiday almost as much as he does.

Thank you very much for the kind words, and the recommendations I'll definitely have to give them a listen!
If you look closely, you'll get a couple of glimpses of the bone work makeup on Geoff's palms. Yes! They did palms, too! So much attention to detail!
That's crazy awesome!
And you can see the suggestion of ribs in the open shirt. That’s crazy attention to detail!
