    As someone who has been using Scrivener for years and the absolute nightmare its comiple feature is, this is so good. I can't wait to get it and get cracking.

    Thanks for this video. Is there a way to create a page with two columns of text instead of just one? If not, please consider adding this feature as it would be most helpful. Thank you.

    Great video - thanks! Only issue I have is that I have set an image to appear at the start of each chapter - however visually it sits really close to below the subtitle and then there's a big gap before the chapter starts. I'd prefer the image to sit just above the paragraph, not just below the title - is there a way of moving it down?

      If you write into support and share a screenshot example or two, they might be able to help with some suggestions there!

    I understand the mechanics of setting up a theme, and this video does a great job of explaining it. Kudos for that, it's very helpful. But... What I continue to flail about with, is the esthetics, by which I mean the underlying philosophy, the 'why' of selecting various options. Genre would seem to be the most significant driver of, say, font choice. e.g., For sci-fi, a google search uncovers a bewildering array of fonts. However, NONE of those deemed most popular or most common are offered, and of the ones that are, I can find no point of comparison. e.g., for my current WiP, in the theme Atreides, (a name which appears to relate to Dune, thus might be a good Sci-fi theme, except no where does Atticus tell us that.) the default font for the chapter title is called 'Crushed.' All I find online is that it's a google font for typeface. Duh. The fundamental question I come back to, is what theme should I use for my book, and why? How do I make a choice? Why Atreides vs. Aether? Both names are meaningless to me. Why not name the Themes 'Futuristic SciFi' or 'Cozy Mystery' or 'Adventure' or something that relates their esthetic choices to a genre or sub-genre? A good video discussing how to pick a themes vs genre, and popular choices and options within the genres would seem invaluable to me.

    Regarding Ordered List, how many levels of indentation can you do. Can you do ii, iii etc. Another question is how do you split chapters if your chapter is too long so that once you print or send to ebook it will be one chapter? Thank you.

    • @AtticusWriter
      @AtticusWriter  7 месяцев назад

      For lists, you can use as many as you need, but there does come a point where they will no longer fit on the page nicely (usually around 6 - 8 levels deep).
      As for the split chapter - can you write into support for that question? We'll need more details!

    Video di grande interesse e aiuto. Per favore, potreste dirmi come posso cambiare l'indicazione del capitolo dall'inglese Chapter One a Capitolo Uno o Capitolo 1 in italiano? Grazie

      Automated headings within Atticus (like automated chapter numbers) currently only appear in English. You may want to deselect Number Chapter Heading section of your custom theme on the formatting page so it doesn't show at all, and use chapter titles and subtitles instead.

    Up to now I've been using Scrivener but, after consistent formatting headaches, am looking to switch. One thing Scrivener does that it appears Atticus does not, is allowing a different header/footer format for the start of a chapter. Most especially, I've loved having a footer-centered page number for chapter heading pages, but page numbers in the header for the rest of the chapter. Is there, or will there ever, be any way to do this in Atticus?

    • @AtticusWriter
      @AtticusWriter  6 месяцев назад +2

      It's not currently available, but we are working on adding more customization options for the Header/Footer area, so it may be possilbe in the future!

    is there a Theme for the old sci-fi paperback novels? With book size, classic old novel fonts, and indentation

    • @AtticusWriter
      @AtticusWriter  4 месяца назад

      There's not a specific theme for that, but you can certainly do some research to find the settings you want and customize one of the existing themes to meet your needs!

    Can you tell me the best format for the images to be uploaded? .jpg or .png and size? I cannot see any information on this.

    • @AtticusWriter
      @AtticusWriter  8 месяцев назад +1

      jpg or png both work equally well, but you'll want to stick to those two options. Size will depend on your book - as a general rule, you always want the maximum size to be trim+bleed, and then you can size down from there if needed. You cannot size up in Atticus, nor crop or adjust the ratio. I hope that helps!

    Hey, I have a question: If I import a Word Document into Atticus, and then make changes to the word document, do those changes carry over, or will I need to re-import it? Thanks!

    • @AtticusWriter
      @AtticusWriter  8 месяцев назад +1

      Word and Atticus are entirely separate, so anything you do in Word will not change what you see in Atticus, and vice versa. You would need to re-import the file. I hope that helps!

    What about font changes in the body of the text? I use several fonts within the body of the book, but I lost all of that work when I imported into Atticus.

    • @AtticusWriter
      @AtticusWriter  7 месяцев назад

      Atticus is designed to have one body font per theme. You can add stylization or subheadings to your content though. This tutorial may help: www.atticus.io/customizing-body-text/

    Hi Monique. I prefer not to have page numbers on the first page of every chapter. But when I choose a chapter in the 'write' section and access the gear to 'hide page number' it will hide the numbers on every page in the chapter. What am I doing wrong?

    • @AtticusWriter
      @AtticusWriter  5 месяцев назад

      If you have the page number in the Header, it will not appear on the first page of any chapter automatically. If it's in the footer, it will. Those are industry standards Atticus follows. I hope that helps!

    So how do you get the scene break feature to work?
    When viewing my document in Atticus, the '***' shows up on the left hand margin as that. It is not centered in the page.
    When I try using one of the other scene break images, they are not reflected in the previewer. The '***' stays left justified.

      If you're seeing three asterisks that you can edit in Atticus like text, you'll want to delete them and click the Asterisk button from the Atticus toolbar.
      They may have not imported properly from docx, but that will fix it up!

    • @AtticusWriter
      @AtticusWriter  2 дня назад

      You'll want to check the recommendations from your publisher - for example, KDP will have suggestions and recommendations for that. Using the Atticus default won't be wrong, exactly, but it might be more whitespace than you need. I hope that helps!

    Min 1:26 I just bought atticus, My book is in spanish, I don't want says Chapter, I want CAPITULO, how do I change that?

    • @AtticusWriter
      @AtticusWriter  Месяц назад

      Automated headings within Atticus (like automated chapter numbers) currently only appear in English. You can manually change the title and subtitle of any chapter/page in Atticus, but if you select Chapter Numbers to appear in the header, this text will be in English.You do have a few options that may work for you though:
      **Option 1:** Deselect Number Chapter Heading section of your custom theme on the formatting page so it doesn't show at all.
      **Option 2:** Select the numeral only style under Chapter Number View (also in the Chapter Heading section) so it doesn't have the word, only the number
      You can rename your Table of Contents page by opening this page in the Writing editor, highlighting the title on the page, and retyping it.
      I hope that helps,
