That Commer will be bonkers, just perfect! Loving the new projects!
cheers pete ...should be a laugh
You're so right about the loss of mechanical trade and the rise of digital. I was asked by one of my pupils why I was teaching them on old cars not new ones (we're restoring a 1971 Beetle at school) - I told them that they need to know the fundamentals first, and classics aren't covered in sensors and other rubbish! They were happy enough with that!
good work Neil ...Zack is a friend of the family I was really pleased he showed a big interest to help...good lad
When i was an apprentice mechanic in the late sixties it was the same on the day a week we did at college. Stripping down Morris Minors and Standard Vanguards while the rest of the week I was working on Essex V sixes and Borg Warner 35s.
Haven't got a clue when I look under the bonnet of my car now.
@@ruongluesteve know exactly what you mean Steve....fortunately my eldest son is all over it ,cheers mate
I love that little green machine🥴👍🏻✨🇬🇧❤️🔥🇺🇸
thanks
Love the cars, love the music, fun channel 👍👍
Interesting little history lesson, there, Brian. Liking this whole episode; watching a little bit of "everything"
while having a cuppa.
thanks mate...
Glad to see you showed us the tyre pit 👍 very cool knowing the history of oak swamp, shame you can’t build anything more on it like a workshop. Buzzing to see the commer build, will be cool to make it a 3 seater if you have the room 🤙
cheers mate .....will deffo be a 3 seater now im moving the motor back ....I👍
Just given me a great idea for an Austin chassis I have - great work !
brilliant go for it !!
That van is really cool. I had never heard of it before so I had to look it up.
cheers dude....look great dont they ? just gotta make it drive well ...
Another great episode. I went to the hotrod races at Pendine last weekend and saw another of your Tshirts so the word is spreading.
thanks Andy....was meant to go myself ....thats good to hear mate 👌
What a week, Your house is a bit like my father in laws - a meeting place for like minded folks where you can always get a brew - Brilliant keep them coming!
thanks Frank...yeah its great mate and its like it every week, saves me going out !!
Humber Hawk diff is the one to source for the Commer, will give you a useful reduction in engine speed on the open road. My dad fitted one to his '68 Commer Autosleeper back in the 80s, with the stock 1725 and an overdrive box from a Hunter she'd cruise at 75-80 all day. With the Triumph motor she'll fly!!
ah they have a good ratio too? ive read a P5 has same stud pattern width and a good ratio....cheers dude
Its amazing how many people wave at you when you give it some welly lol.
I love those old comma Van's, my old dad drove one when he worked at BOC over millbrook when I was a kid 👍👍👍
they drive horribly !!! hahah cheers Andy and thanks for the support buying a shirt mate
Love the video. You’ve got some great mates. Interesting history on Oak swap The Commer van was a great buy. Looking forward to seeing the two projects come to life
nice one thanks mate
@@oakswamp trying to get Andy Saunders, the Custom car guy, to visit you. He lives in Poole. He watched this video and loved it. I have sent you a message.
You really do make an entertaining video Bryan, some great projects coming up
thanks Paul, glad you like them dude....gagging to get started mate !
Mildly amused by "Not really into car shows!" but then trawling round the meet finding there's a couple or three interesting cars to look at and capable and knowledgeable people to chat to. Good video with plenty going on. Lots to watch in the future - keep it all going.
cheers Toni, loved that mini there, look forward to seeing more of it !
Loving the long format video, can't wait to see some progress on the commer.
nice one cheers for the input Dave
@@oakswamp any sign of the hats yet?
Can't wait to see the Comer build-I didnt think there were any of those left!-keep up the good work👍
cheers Matthew...there isnt very many it seems and they are starting to fetch proper money now....I always fancied one
Great vid Bry! I could barely keep up with the action! Keep em coming!
cheers Boyd...was a fun week dude!
Hi Bryan, interesting vid, cool story about the old house etc.
Triumph 2000 Auto and manual boxes are the same length from memory. Only thing that might work for you is a non overdrive box, so they'll be a bit thinner at the back. I've got a spare 2000 manual box I think, I'll measure it up for you.
thanks mate ...im pretty sure even the manual wil be way long ...👍
@@oakswamp if it helps, the manual box is 74cm, 29" from the mating face of the bell house to the mating face of the output flange.
Ive got my own Mary Jane! My 1949 Plymouth "Daisy" !
cool!
Brilliant episode, lots of good interesting content, keep it up mush !
cheers Steve!
Thumbs up mate.I,m just off to whip n°1 out.
lol.Big thanks.
hhahahahah sas told me that had no place in there..🤣
Sas describing the new project: "its so cute!"
My wife: "what the f*ck is that?!" 😂
hahahahahahah , they do or they dont mate ...🤣
Ouch! I know the feeling.
As soon as u said the straight 6 won't fit. And the van turned up. I was thinking please slam it in the car hauler. I'm so looking forward to that.
hahahah was no way planned but it just had to happen... with the autobox too made perfect ...maybe air bags eh?
Awesome. I thought the nut and bolt talk was riveting ;)
hahahah dyou like the commer?
@@oakswamp Amazing. Like a slightly slower version of the Mercedes Renntransporter :)
Hey Bryan, good to meet you and the lads at the weekend, love the Commer, that is so damn cool.
thanks so much Paul...we had a great time ...lots of edit to do !!! think the commer with some love will be a beast mate
@@oakswamp I will get the on board footage over later in the week bud.
@@Paul_Hassell awesome thanks mate, prob best to here oakswamprats@gmail.com

Had a triumph 2000 back in 70s those motors are smooth as silk......you'll love it.
cool...i have a good feeling about it, it certainly started easy enough seems its been sat for ten years
Great vid, bit of assorted this time. Glad you've loads more projects in the pipeline. Great history on Oak Swamp woods. Get used to smacking your leg on the Commer handbrake.😂 How's the neighbours with your shenanigans and mates on noisy stuff turning up.
I was wondering the same thing about the neighbours
cheers Steve....they are pretty cool to be honest, think they enjoy the action....its so quiet round here well apart from me! hahaha
@oak swamp same here fell out with next door years ago. Came into MY garage complaining about noise and fumes. Tuning the 440 in my 65 Coronet. Told him to fuck off out of my property and mind your own.
Dont speak now, just hello how ya doin.
I have noisy mates round all the time. The neighbours love it....😂
Get them to print some shirts in 5xl. I'll get one!!!!! Cool video!!!
send me a mail dude, ill get one out to you ....cheers mate oakswamprats@gmail.com
Thought we were gonna get on to this video. We were at the top of the hill with you behind the Model T.
Im gonna check back throu footage now!!!🤣
Can't wait till you start dropping these engines in .
cant wait to start dude !
Good to see you dude, what a day that was, I’m quite enjoying showbiz. I’ll have to do a guest spot with Harris. Comma is gonna be a weapon 👊
hahahahah welcome anytime mush
Hi mate, an other project more over all you've to finish, you'll have fore a lifetime haha, great! That grill at 23.10 looks quite similar as the one I've got here for you, but less shiny. We keep in touch!
awesome nice one Cas....same sort as the rats grill? lovely ...wish i could leave to you right now mate !
Another great video, loving the steel toe capped flip flops and loving the Commer
🤣. cheers Bri, think i really need some mush !
Love this stuff. What a larf!
cheers Martin !
A Commer race transporter, wasn't expecting that. Drove a couple of Telecom Commers which were pretty horrific but your artisan approach tells me this won't be. Excellent episode, cheers.
cheers dude ...yes they are terrible bloody things .... but they
look so cool
thank you to paul i learnt all about bolts bought the book now i know how to size bolts not bad when you have it explained and thanks to bryan for another excellent 40 minute video🚚
thanks Gordon our pleasure mate
Brilliant video love the commer can't wait to see these upcoming projects
cheers Dude!
What a mix! I love those 2 ltr Triumph engines, really smooth. I bought a £50 Triumph 2000 from the breakers with nearly a full MOT. I wanted it to do the daily round trip of 50 miles to work. I ran it for two years and although it burnt a bit of oil and the mains rumbled when it warmed up it just kept going.
I had the misfortune of driving one of those Commer vans when they were new. I hated the way it steered, it gave you little idea of where the wheels were pointing. If you sort out the steering and put that six in it'll make a great car transporter.
Thanks for another entertaining video.
thanks Colin.....yes i remember them too ...horrible things to drive...but should make for an interesting project with the little race car on the back !
There's got to be better way of steering them. Mount a rack, then a shaft forwards to a VW Type 25 bevel box, then rhe column up!
Been looking forward to this
hope it was worth the wait mate...
Hey Bryan , Really a great video. Dirty Dog? why I started saying that years ago , worked for a auto shop whose mom work up front in the office she hated anyone swearing and say the F word you did that you were soon gone and the woman's son warned me about it so I started Dirty Dog........and really it became natural. Hey Hey , Big Bill Broonzy , cool name for your Van . check the piston grooves before you install the rings on the Minx yeah I know you know..................ALways the best from Victoria BC
cheers Len....great storey mate👍
Great video
Make sure to bolt the back panel and not weld it, then next time the engine removal is just ad easy
From were are you guys !
the motor will be mostly behind that panel with any luck ...cheers mate
Funny that the GOV can find the tarmac to make speedbumps but don't have enough of it to fill the potholes eh?
exactly !!!
Air raid sirens! We have tornado sirens in Missouri. Kind of the same. LOL
bp fuel depot near us !! they try the sirens alot!
Cracking episode Bryan 👍 watched a vid on Saab v4 the other day nice little stumpy engine not sure on power tho…glad the post arrived 👍😎 on top of your art how about an episode letting us in on yourself, background past and what got you into all this etc 👍oh and summer holidays looming, how about some oak swamp caps 🎩
thanks Steve ...and thanks for your support dude, saab v4 was a ford motor, was in corsair, we had an old saab went great nice little motors...caps are coming very very soon mate and another shirt...hang loose brother
I would love to see you build with a Harley engine, the comey looks so much like a vw van turned flatbed
cheers dude....yes the harley single seater is gonna be a madman i suspect !
Bryan could you make adaptor plate up to fit a gearbox of your choice could be bit of messing around but your pretty inventive
thanks Neil, I could try but it seems the 6 was destined for the commer mate
Great video Bryan, a lot of good relevant info regarding the Zeus charts and screw thread measurement, BTW 'The Bible' is actually 'Machinery's Handbook' Zeus charts are the Book of Common Prayer. Don't throw anything away from the Commer, some stuff could be useful for 'Mary Jane'. All The Best from Midsomer Norton.
cheers Jonathan ....yes keeping rootes stuff...was kinda hoping the motor was ok to use in mary jane...alas ....
Been meaning to ask what your steering wheel is from, and if you retained the 10-4 chassis’s original steering shaft, if it was a direct fit on the stock columns splines? I like the large casting look of it compared to my stock wheel. Thanks!
its the original column , box and wheel ...i never altered it at all just raised it...think those style wheels were on a multitude of austins ...7's, 10's and 12's of that era. are the exact same... cheers dude
Good show, nice mix a stuff.
Was there a lil Hank III in there?
cheers mate ...oh yes love hank 3
Alright Bryan 👍 the Rat is amazing, would love to come have a drive.
Your videos strike a chord with me, the cars the music the lifestyle and no bs I was born on a canal boat, bet you can guess what kind of tree was over hanging where it was moored.
Anyway I think it's time I went to your shop
See you on the next one
Oh when is Hawkeye's festival?
hey Ash thanks dude, my youngest was born on a boat too! ...rustic stomp is on the 14th/16th july
Ooof 5 hour drive... might see you there
I was thinking it was a broken ring.. The piston ring channels and no cracks in the piston.. Piston is still good?
yes all sound ...none of the ring was missing at all...must of just been like it anyways...
looking forward to seeing you put a Harley engine in the big seven,
is it going in the standard engine position or at the back behind the seat like some of the old hill-climb cars?
I hope you are going to do something to upgrade those brakes though.😁
hey Walt , yes as its sat in the bike with chain drive....considering putting austin 10 brakes on it...they will be cable regardless...cheers mate
@@oakswamp I think I saw something similar a few years ago at Prescot hill-climb but using the smaller Austin Seven chassis with an old Jap vee-twin. The Harley should be quite a bit more powerful though.
Actually, that's probably the most powerful engine I have ever seen in a Seven chassis.
This is going to be a fun project.
Hahahajaj, the cellphone still won't get him there eh🙇👏
🤣
Ha one of my first homer jobs panel beating was on one of those old commer vans when I was about 16 / 17 👍🏼take it easy mate 👍🏼🍺😎🇳🇿 41:10
hey Gav...they are shit aint they ...just look so bloody cute thou ...like a bloody door mouse sas recons! cheers mate
I’m gonna need some new tires soon😂 a.k.a. the ferret
was a corker ...did you hear my neighbour laughing as you drive off!
I ordered a Piaggio nut for The Black mamba, it was £2.50 , no problem, but it turned out it was going to take about six weeks to come, so I went to John's DIY in sholing ( apparently it's, or is closing down 😢) and picked up a nut for about fifty pence or something, I put it on and did it up, it got a bit stiff , it was less than the thickness of a finger nail from where it needed to be, I'd locked off the engine with a tool that went onto the teeth of the vairiator, I put a bit of force and it started to turn!! Then I realised I'd ground the teeth off the vairiator!! It's weird how different things that look the same can be!!
Johns closed down now ...such a shame I used it quite a bit ...
Saw a film today, oh boy . . . saving my pensioner pennies for a t-shirt !
read a comment today made me feel humble...save yer pennies for yourself bro
@@oakswamp It is for myself - life would be less without Oak Swamp!
@@shanehnorman thanks dude...
I grew up in Yorkshire, now in Australia. When I used to go drag racing and was into hot rods, everyone had to have fenders on the cars. I thought it was UK law? How do you get around this?
it works like this in the UK ...you dont need them for MOT but its illigal to ride without them on the highway ....I take my chances...i like open wheels
Got my shirt thanks mate its a Bloody Ripper Brian Might send ya pic , Wow you have really dug a hole and made a massive rod for your back with those 2 projects , Have not seen one of those commers in years , I had a mate a few years ago had a 283 chev in it what a scarry car that was to drive with a chev in it , Heaps of power shit brakes , shit steering , shit handling 👀.
Did the Aprillia go home on a trailer 🙄
Any way keep it up just love what ya doing 👍.
cheers Chris, glad you got the shirt dude......yeah mate commers., i know terrible bloody things ...should be interesting!!! please sent me a snap bro ....

Once we went metric in America I had a buy twice the tools😂😂 😢👎🏻

Those Commer PB vans you will see, it's got a front wheel handbrake, in the dark days of my apprenticeship I was given the job of a brake overhaul, new shoes, cylinders, etc, I never had a license then (just 16) so bedding in the brakes involved my mechanic mentor (an asshole!) with a Tapley meter on the floor. This van was a job to be avoided as it was the Surrey council's pig swill van and smelled f---ing awful! after bedding in the footbrake,! a bit the asshole just yanked on the handbrake, the van had 2 big dustbins in the back, both full of pig swill commonly known as school dinner waste, the van just stood up on its front axle, and all I could see was the road! The bins rocketed forward, one of them hitting the engine cover and ejecting its contents all over the mechanic, me, and everywhere inside the cab! it stunk like fuck, the mechanic had gravy, custard, and a half-eaten piece of meat pie on top of his head! I got out of the van quickly and was falling around laughing at the sight and smell of it all! We had to go back to the garage and power hose each other down and clean the van out, what a stinking task that was, you have been warned Bryan, the handbrake on those PBs works really well! Seeing one of those vans now bought back a fun time!
hahahahah thats a really funny story Keith....its always a big compromise between form and function,,,,unfortunately commers look good only hahahaha
4 on the shirt no 4 on the car ????
ah first to comment on that ...i went and put the horn in the way....Stefan drew this before the car was built ...i think it needs one thou !!!
I beg to differ your Honour, I mentioned the missing number after the last video! 🤪
That Commer looks cool. You look a bit more hillbilly than rock-a-billy.
exactly !!! cheers dude
you have pot holes down your way, now there's a thing. WTF!
hahaha
