Japan has stereotypes as well based off location. Hopefully someone could elaborate on it. My wife is from Hiroshima and has a different personality type than those from Tokyo. Culture and dialect is unique as well. Okinawa's relationship to Japan reminds me of how Hawaii is unique to the United States. Yes, great video and very informative and clearly presented. My wife is Chinese and she concurred with your description of the various regions and the general Chinese perceptions of them. Of course...whichever region you are from is also always the best!!

I definitely agree with you Mr. Lao! I'm a Filipino expat in Beijing for 7 years, all that you've said is all i hear about when we talk about these Beijingers' hometowns. I also remembered about those people from Qingdao being gold digging foreign loving people, says my fiance who is from Qingdao haha. More power Mr. Lao. I'm a new fan, more power, your videos are great!
I can confirm the Cantonese non-stereotype about the weird food thing. I visited Chinatown in San Francisco and This Cantonese restaurent tried to pass off some meat as Chicken....when I tasted it, I almost vomit cause it was not any meat I had ever tasted. It was gross tasting. When I noticed a flock of Pigeons lurking right in front of the restaurent I put 2 and 2 together and got ...you guessed it....wild pigeon meat.
@Maggie I think Wuhan is considered Northern China. On 60 Minutes this past Sunday they showed the open air meat markets there. Dogs and other animals are slaughtered ON THE PREMISES cooked and sold for human consumption. Disgusting.
Lol the Cantonese stereotype... so true! My husband worked there for a year, I could hardly believe the things he told me people ate over there until he took a few pics and sent it to me. It's quite interesting. I've been around many people from Jiangsu, I have to say they're generally attractive people, men and women alike.
Learned a ton, and happy for it. Really enjoyed this video, and not even mad about the clickbait. Thanks for making informative and entertaining content.
Another really interesting video, and well presented. Recently my wife (from Wenzhou) met another Chinese woman here in Italy, and when this woman found out my wife was from Wenzhou she immediately commented about how people in Wenzhou are “famous” (maybe infamous) for making counterfeit shoes. And my wife didn’t refute this claim, but did blush. 🤔 What a weirdly dubious distinction. Also, I hear Northerners are lazy, but it always struck me as interesting how Guangdong people are always sleeping in public.
Excellent video. I heard another reason the women in Sichuan are considered beautiful is the climate there causes them to have fair skin: Often overcast with proper humidity. My wife and I live in Jiangsu, and your description of Jiangsu and the Yangtze river as a cultural demarcation is also excellent. What strikes me as funny is how strong a demarcation the Yangtze River is. People in southern Jiangsu which is south of the Yangtze believe that people in Northeast Jiangsu, which is north of the river, are ruffians that fight a lot. I presumed that was from surviving Japanese occupation, but your description of differences between North and South also makes sense. My wife is from north Jiangsu, and she is really tall compared to south Jiangsu people. Also, her native dialect is a northern dialect, whereas the south part of Jiangsu where we live, they speak Wu dialects, and the older generation of people is really short there. It's amazing that two areas that are so close together and have been populated for so long have remained so insular.
hey, this is gonna be my first time to write comment, I'm from a small town in Henan Province, when I was living in China, no matter where I go, ppl always first question about me where am I come from, I felt after I said where I am come from, they already know me so well ~~~even they literally know nothing about me....
My pick: Sichuan beauty: shorter to average height, long legs, small boned, "spicy" personality: best cities chongqing, chengdu sichuan Jiangnan beauty: south of yantze river features (not deep south), stereotype of elegant, feminine, well educated, alot of female actresses from this region: best cities hangzhou zhejiang, yangzhou jiangsu Dongbei beauty: fair compexioned, tall, some mixed features from russian, bold personality, best cities Harbing Heilongjiang, Dalian Liaoning Shangdong beauty: tallest height in china, long legs, clear skin, direct personality: best cities Qingdao, Jinan
HKG has beautiful girls and they are plentiful. HKG girls are also open to foreigners, where mainland girls are not. Girls from all over China come to Shenzhen and Dongguan cities to work, so there are thousands of beautiful girls on the street at all times. Girls from Harbin City are tall, slim as well as being lighter skinned (northern climate). They are also very sweet when you get to know them.
Being Chinese I may say it’s because of the geography that has huge influence on how people adapt and behave over time even your features will gradually change due to different food you eat. Southerners migrated from central China for escaping war merged with the locals and becomes what is today.
I like all of your videos, but this was by far the most informative. Stereotypes serve a purpose in society. They serve as a shorthand way of evaluating a person until you get to know them better. No individual is 100% of any stereotype, there are gradations as these traits and they persist because there is some truth to them. However it isn't fair to judge a person until you get to know them better. The people that do are not so much bigots, as just plain lazy because stereotypes are a gross generalization. Look at the United States for example. Black folks are all supposed to like fried chicken and watermelon, well who the hell doesn't like fried chicken and watermelon? I sure do and I'm about as white as you can get. My point is if I see someone that looks like trouble I'm going to cross the street even if it means I don't take the time to get to know them better. Selecting those who advertise malice is one of the best values of stereotypes. But if I was going to hire a person the interview would allow better information on which to make a decision. Like everything else in life, China included, context is key. Stereotypes can be a good social tool, but only if used wisely.
2:56 1 thing i noticed about northern chinese is that they dont know how to swing a chair efficiantly enough to cause maximum damage therfor they waste a lot of energy and chairs.
Very interesting video. Informative and well thought out and definitely way better than the click bait:) Oh and to add to the stereotypes Hong Kong women are most beautiful and yes that’s where I’m originally from. 😉
2:07 Asking where you come from is a very cultural thing. Chinese people have a very strong "origin" conception. Take my family, for example, we have the 3 words written on top of a wall in our families home where we pray to our ancestors, the three words means the location where we originate from almost 1000 or more years ago in the north(it has been like this for all that time) You can find it in a lot of ancient Chinese poems and proverbs as well.
Great video. I think you should consider translating this into Chinese both mandarin and Cantonese and educate those speakers. Most Chinese people don’t really understand about the country and each other well and this video can be quite useful for this purpose.
Chinese women are very hot. Northern Chinese are tall slim and very pretty. Southern Chinese are more reserved. I like mainland Chinese girls much, they are disciplined and good.
As I have been here in china for over twelve years. I see the Chinese hate for everyone that is not local people. A local mother and grandma will say their child can only marry a local man or woman. Every one not local are not my people.
To Chinese, where you are from is where your root are. Our roots trace back centuries. Even though I grew up in the states, I am record in the family tree in the hall of our family village where everyone have the same last name. This mentality goes back millenniums, no matter how successful one gets they always think about home. When one succeeds, it bring pride to people of the area.
Cantonese do like to eat. we do adopt other provinces dishes too. Hottest Girls from Fuijan region IMO. Cantonese have always considered themselves rebellious against the central government in Beijing throughout the dynasties. Probably closer to Yue then Han peoples.
Cscratchy also I think Cantonese people have more exposure to westerners and foreigners since ancient times. I listen on Chinese history podcast that in ancient times, foreigners were kept at bay along the south China harbor. They were not allowed to get past the Great Wall as it was closed off.
WingChunBoyz the majority of Chinatowns worldwide are founded by Cantonese immigrants. That's because Canton was one of the first treaty ports opened to the outside world during the Qing dynasty
C-Milk knows that, but he can't say, "oh, Sichuan women are the hottest." He's not trying to tell you the reality, he's just giving stereotypes. Notice he said, "There's a huge stereotype that the women are massively beautiful in Sichuan Provence." These are fairly strong descriptors.
I went to Chengdu once with the same in mind and came back to Shenzhen disappointed. Asked my Chinese friends what's with the hot Sichuan girls, I didn't see any. They replied, no wonder, the pretty Sichuan girls are all in Shenzhen and Dongguan making a lot of money :D
Which part of China has the hottest women? None. The hottest women are from South Korea. Interestingly, Koreans eat a lot of spicy food and have a lot of hot women. People in Sichuan eat a lot of spicy food and have the hottest women in China. The Thai eat a lot of spicy food and there are a lot of hot Thai women. I'm seeing a pattern here.
I'm really glad you understood that we Texans, are our own genre of Americans. LOL! When I was studying in China I really liked Beijing and the Women there as well they were very appproachable and were bold enough to carry or initiate conversations with you.

There also is a lot of racism even amongst "good people" there, but I've always given them some leeway since many Chinese don't even get to see foreigners, let alone talk with them; however, there's a lot of bigotry even amongst different Chinese cultural groups and regions, which still is not the best thing.
@@WingChunBoyz The Great Wall is a long way from the coast, it's inland.
Laurie Seto sorry you should listen to Chinese history podcast as the guy can explain it in depth.
WingChunBoyz the majority of Chinatowns worldwide are founded by Cantonese immigrants. That's because Canton was one of the first treaty ports opened to the outside world during the Qing dynasty
Jeff Lee Jeff yes I think you are right with that. Thanks for clarifying!
Short answer: the area with the highest temperature is gonna have the hottest girls
Not true. Russia and Scandinavia are freezing cold yet have some of the hottest girls, lots of tropical countries barely have any hot girls
Great videos. I've been living here in NE China for more than 20 years. You hit the nail on the head.
Wow this was very informative. Thank you!!!
this was awesome, good work
I have been to Sichuan. And the rumours are true. Those girls are as spicy as their food. That's not a stereotype.
False been in chengdu 1 year and no bigg difference
I went to Chengdu once with the same in mind and came back to Shenzhen disappointed. Asked my Chinese friends what's with the hot Sichuan girls, I didn't see any. They replied, no wonder, the pretty Sichuan girls are all in Shenzhen and Dongguan making a lot of money :D
Must remember, there is very big difference to the stander of hot girl.
@@adamhernandez7914 totally agree....been there three different times and going back early in 2020
Hey! Love ur new haircut! This video was very informative. Learned a lot. Keep it comin.
"Hukou is a super outdated communist system..."
*Laughs in 2020*
This is one of my favorite videos about China, Very interesting to know about the different areas and the stereotypes there. Cool video!
Very interesting video. Loved it.

im a canadian from manitoba, and ive always thought i wouldnt fit in china, but northern china beer fights make me think, were not different haha
This was very informative. You're looking more buff these days. I was also scrawny in my twenties. ..
What does buff mean ? Would you mind please ?
Japan has sexy, slim, pretty, feminine, intelligent girls.
This was a very good video that I totaly watched simpily out of curiosity
Two words: "Chongqing Hotties"
Video was a bit more intelligent them I had expected ☺
Stop the clickbait man! I almost didnt watch the video because of the title. Video was much interesting than anticipated.
Agree, cheapens a good video.
really enjoy your videos.Having traveled to Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin for work I can see the stereotypes you mentioned
The clickbait was me looking for copper
What I found was gold
Tfw the title is a clickbait
technically its not
I started watching your videos in 2012, and finally 7 years later, I got to listen to you talk about a topic that I never knew I wanted to know about
I'm really glad you understood that we Texans, are our own genre of Americans. LOL!
When I was studying in China I really liked Beijing and the Women there as well they were very appproachable and were bold enough to carry or initiate conversations with you.
Excellent video!
Water so pure hahahahahahahah , so true. When I first moved to Canada, my mom just told me that I become more beautiful because the water in Canada is so pure🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I need to see you 😊😊😊
Wait I thought entire video is about hot girls. You trapped me there, but hey very interesting and informative video. I had no idea that there is so many differences.
You were listening too much on what he was saying, which was interesting enough. The women were everywhere but he didn't focus on them so much as illustrating his talk. The ones I did see in passing, imho, looked hot. Of course, there is his Patreon group who get additional privileges. hehehe
You would need an entire episode to explain Texan stereotypes. And I'd welcome that
Video would be 10 seconds long. Texans suck, the end.
@@imtypingwords sorry for whatever happened to you to make you so angry at the world. You should try getting out of mommy's basement and grow up a little bit
@@loveandservetaiwan I'm not angry anymore. Why? Cause I left Texas 😁. A meth infected cesspit filled with liars and scam artist.
What other place on Earth has a name ending with "as", claims to be big, yet has the balls to cheeky?
Nice 👍work bro very educational
dudettes, i haven't heard that in a while. used to get my brother in a twister when i said that to him. he denied it was a thing but now i feel validated
So we did not get to see the hot girls ?
I am from Henan, I can confirm that its really poluted there.
I'm Chinese Canadian 🇨🇳🇨🇦 and we have a lot of stereotypes about other races that aren't even true or somehow true
I am taiwanese canadian. We have a lot of jokes about communist china.
I'm curious as to the stereotypes Chinese people have about other countries. Do you know of any good videos covering this topic?
@@argh2945
Chineses are good people but COMMUNUST CHINESES ARE not. The same applies to the Vietnameses and Communist Vietnameses.
@@Mika30041975 There's a lot of good people in China, but definitely a lot of people that will automatically believe in anything the CCP and Chinese media say, which influences their behavior in a negative way. There also is a lot of racism even amongst "good people" there, but I've always given them some leeway since many Chinese don't even get to see foreigners, let alone talk with them; however, there's a lot of bigotry even amongst different Chinese cultural groups and regions, which still is not the best thing. I understand good-natured rivalry, but when you see a Beijinger beat up someone from Hubei just because he thinks people there are all trash...that's wrong.
@ ..it sounds like the U.S.A l lol!!!!
go to chongqing every 2 yrs. to visit my wife's family. love the people, especially my wife's family but can only be away from hometown amenities for 10 days and then got to get back. your insights to China's customs is invaluable to anyone visiting the country
This video is really awesome man, thank you so much!!!
I lived in Sichuan for 4 years... those two things are not just stereotypes. ;-)
Came to see hot girls.... and got a lesson in sociology and geography. Thanks!
As a mixed Sichuanese the one about spices is 100% true. Me and my mom just start munching on garlic or peppers on occasion.
Not the information I expected from the title, but actually better. Nice to learn about other countries.
