1. Harihara betta - 65 km from Bengaluru | Trek duration 2-3 hours| Difficulty - Easy
The first trek that I want to show you today is called Harihara Betta.
The reason why this trek comes right on top is that (1) it is close to Bengaluru (Just 40 Km from Kia) (2) it is less explored and (3) it offers you some of the greatest views from the top in this region.
I would rate this as an easy trek because even if you have never trekked before you can still go on this trek. In fact, even kids of age 8-10 years can do this trek.
This trek is also easy because the trails are well defined, climbs are gradual and there are few challenging sections.
2. Kunagalu Betta - 72 Km from Bengaluru | Trek duration - 3 hours | Difficulty - Easy
Another very easy, first timers trek which is also the best kid-friendly trek.
Even though it is a slightly longer drive compared to Harihara betta. This is a very good option if you are planning to go with your family and kids.
The first image that comes to my mind when I think of Kunagalu Betta is the rock that resembles the face of a cute puppy. This is why we, at Indiahikes, have nicknamed it the Puppy Betta trek.
This is a perfect trek to take your kids on. They will love it when they see the puppy face rock.
3. Makalidurga - 60kms from Bengaluru | Trek duration 4 hours | Difficulty - Easy to Moderate
Personally, this trek is one of my top 3 treks around Bengaluru. Unlike any other treks, Makalidurga is special because it has a Railway Station at its base.
It is very fascinating to stand at the base and see trains pass with Makaladurga hill in the backdrop. It is such a picturesque view.
Please note that you need permission from the forest department to trek here. Make sure you carry your ID card for that.
4. Channarayana Durga | 100 km from Bengaluru | Trek duration 5-6 hours | Difficulty - Moderate - Difficult
The biggest highlight of this trek is the historical touch it gives to the trek. Many treks around Bengaluru have forts built on it and history attached to it but nothing comes close to Channarayanadurga.
This trek is special to Indiahikes for another reason as well. At the base of this trek is where Indiahikes has its southern campus from where we conduct our family treks to Channarayana Durga.
5. Halu Chilume Gange temple trek | 60kms from Bengaluru | Trek duration - 4 hours | Difficulty - Easy
Contrary to the previous treks mentioned in this video, this is a very isolated and unexplored trek. But having said that this is a good offbeat trek closer to Bengaluru city.
One unique observation is you will see a very raw version of worship on this trek. I say this because you don’t get to see any temples but you see these bells tied to the rock everywhere and locals worship these rocks.
