I’m a US accountant. The short answer to your question is corporate interest. The long answer is that taxes are done this way due to lobbyists for companies like Turbo Tax (Intuit). The channel More Perfect Union did a thing on it. Also, they keep defunding the IRS, which cuts down on things like support for people and agents that target the ultra wealthy tax cheats. They have expensive lawyers and cost more to look into. It also keeps the IRS from upgrading any of their systems to make things better for us.
It always amazes me to hear this from America.. IN the Netherlands I get a paper that says, according to everything we have learned this year that should be the amount you're getting or paying.. either way check.. add if we have forgotten anything and send back please It takes you a bit more work if you like own a house or other sort of property.. and I'd never want to own a business.. because that is a bigger headache.. But 18 year old me could do taxes without too much instruction other than what was on the papers. And I know for a fact that our system has big flaws.. the whole affair around benefits that happened waay too long ago that still hasn't been settled is a problem in itself. But atleast they don't keep most of us guessing..

Well it's the 1st megabase away from a starter base but I'd argue a few others are definitely at megabase proportions, definitely Joel but also Pearl, Keralis, Ren, Scar, Bdubs, Mumbo...
As someone who finally caved to buy Minecraft back in Season 3 days just to submit to your ocean creature builds, I look forward to the return of creepy fish and its many cousins all around this ocean landscape. Especially now that waterlogged stairs and slabs exist! Actual underwater plants will also help, no more sugarcane with random scuba skeletons lurking in them. Final thing I have to mention, waterlogged glow lichen on the gravel scapes immediately near the tunnels might solve your Drowned problem with minimal visual effect.
The one hall might seem bigger too because it doesnt have the ice formations halfway down leaning into the space. It means your vision of the hall length isnt shortened to the midpoint and you dont have other blocks encroaching on the width of the hall when you look at it, making it feel smaller in all dimensions.
Not sure if this has been said but 34:54 , it seems bigger because the ice spikes and the fact it’s not as long of a tunnel. Also the darker walls make the underwater one seem narrower and it is longer. The missing floor doesn’t help much but our brains get all weird with perception. You’d be amazed the amount of stuff that goes into interior design with darker walls/roofs whenever you want to change the size of a room
Videos where XB just builds and talks might be some of my favorite videos on the internet. Something about them that are just so calming Also I'll say it over and over, one of the best bases on the server this year
With the blackslate tile bricks, have you considered using stairs instead with an alternating pattern so that they are still walkable but allow light through AND you get added texture in the appearance. Alternated being: place a stair(right side up) the flip around and place another from the opposite direction and repeat. It's also a great pattern for roof lines w/upside-down stairs, or in walls when swapping rightside up & upside-down alternating patterns. Hope that makes sense
In the one hand, sprinkling conduits around the outside could help with the outside work, but the moment you slip one toe into any water, the screen goes wonky. Moving around the base would become obnoxious.

hey xb for the underwater area i think just making the tunnels mostly black glass instead of deepslate would open up a lot of possibilities. You could landscape the ocean, start an underwater base area, or build underwater homes to see from the tunnel. just an idea.
Love the buildy episodes and watching you figure out how to build it. Also I saw a tiktok recently about the las vegas sphere and the sydney opera house illusion, which is where walking away from a window while looking outside makes it look like focus objects outside of the window suddenly get a lot bigger. And you kinda have that in the new upper tunnels in your base, when you walk backwards towards the center of the base in the opening in the tower (you can kinda see it at around 24:20). I don't know if you plan to continue those tunnels to the outside as well (and in a straight line), but if not, the backend of the tower could be a cool place to build something eyecatching, maybe some more guardian iconography.
Is it bad that as soon as xB said to Cleo that he has a big head and a big hat in real life, my first thoughts were a 10 gallon hat, a Top hat and Doug Dimmadomes hat?

I know what you mean about owing taxes. I used to work as a tax preparer while going to business school. I told every single client that the refund amount I'm stating is NOT an exact quote, the final refund amount depends on if they owe anything. They always say, "I don't owe anything, it's fine." Then they come screaming at me when the government takes out what they owed and claimed I stole their money. I wish I did steal their money, didn't get paid enough to have them scream at me.
You are so good at making cool bases! Epic ocean temple base v2.0 is going so great it looks amazing 😁 I laughed so hard at the end when you swapped in the deepslate tile slab completely understand that feeling lol
Or you could even just make it an upward angled tunnel which would be a nice contrast to the downward angle of the Lasers and accentuate the feeling of the temple being down in the ground.
I think you're ok to remove that last little bit of brick and granite that you can see from the exterior. The path block IS nice, and Bdubs DID say you can change whatever. Thanks for making these! I'm likin the content!

99% sure it's just Fresh Animations needing an update. Endermen in 1.20.3 had their heads massively separated from their bodies when I tried playing a few weeks back (and BDubs commented on it / thought it was the Wild Card in _Wild Life)_
I don't know how big you want your base to be. But I see you have so much space to expand if you want to do farms. Considering cyan is your most favorite color combining the copper green / sea green color. There are so many possibilities. But the orange, black and normal green colors are also multiple combinations. I know you want stay close to basic colors. It's a challenge with each update with the new blocks. Sometimes it's not easy. To many choices.. Many it's me. To me you feel like the new TFC, because TFC was just himself with each video. No rushing.
What plans if any do you have for the 4 towers? Like any plans of putting stuff inside those towers? I feel like they should be about the right size to fit either some mob farms or crop farms stacked up inside.

Our tax system tells you what you have earned and you have to check that. And if something is off you need to give proof of that. But they (government) want to make it harder 😖.

You can also build side arches under the bridge it will make the path blocks going around connect better with brick path under the bridge

Make the bridge have a slight upward arch so it looks like the ice spikes are supports and the tips are right at the level of the floor.
