    Have the Nas wired to my router and use Macbook Pro to access network wirelessly. Seem I always need to use SMB in Finder in order to get finder to see the drives and folders. Is there any autodetect similar to the way Netgear NAS functioned so I can always see the network drives?

    Hello there, thanks for the review. I have a question. I had a D-Link Nas Server that's not working anymore but my disks are in pretty good condition. So I want to buy this nas to replace my old one. Now there is my question. In the video at the start of the setup we are getting asked to delete all the data from the storage to install the DSM. Is there any way to install this without wiping the disks inside the nas? Thanks in advance!

    I am right now looking for alternative to google drive but my concerns is wondering Is Getting a NAS is not like going backward? We are suppose to low all the risks of data loss or capabality to have access to out data as much as possible, some things can happening when you are reponsable for your equipment like Flood, Hurricane, Power outage, ISP uptime guarantee, fire, thieves, baby or accidental desconection, What happens if you are abroad and just can´t get to your info inmediately something happens and you have to ask someone to go and check or reset the NAS to make it back online again? With 100% cloud based solutions you can probably cover all this risks, Right or not? I would like to hear your opinion. Thanks.

    If I'm not concerned with having redundancy, is there a file format where the two hard drives work independent of each other (i.e., not splitting data during file transfer)?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  16 дней назад

      You can partition the drives, I just don't know if it will allow you to select a specific hard drive.

    My wife loves taking photos and videos of kids as would be case with all families. Every year, 100 GB getssss used up on Google one. I am already done with 2 subscription upgrades up to 200 GB. I am not sure how much storage will I need first up. Let us say if we go in with 16+16 tb, how many years will this suffice? With camera upgrading on smart phones capturing larger sized media and security cameras also syncing to network drive can sufficiently fit into 16 tb SHR storage? If it comes to upgrading disks in NAS or buying a new NAS, is extention easily possible or is that another copy-paste migrate effort in future?

    • @siddantchothe
      @siddantchothe Месяц назад +1

      Also how feasible is it to start with 4+4 Tb and then upgrade to 8+8 or 16+16 tb kind of setup?

    I have this model, and i was happy with it for a few months until they decided to nerf their software with the 7.2.2 downgrade which removed videostation and transcoding from their device, this also affects synology photos (people dont get thumbnails etc) and camera surveillance app (where you now must have a camera with dedicated motion detection). Earlier synology also crappified their synology photos app making it useless for photographers and removed DS get (which still works, if you sideload it). Qnap have much better hardware and now also WAY better software, if you have movies or pictures you plan putting on your NAS which is like 99% of home users probably, forget synology, you are much better off getting qnap or asustor.

    3:08 in 2024 would rather have 4 SSD ( 2 Tb each ) OR NVMe and one cheap slow hard drive( 4tb) - for slow read and upload for large video file dumps

    I have left Synology a few years ago due to theirs obsolete hardware, now, in theirs defence you can achieve much better transfer speeds using smb multichannel, obviously you will need to connect the two network connections of the Nas simultaneous to a 2.5GB switch and then another 2.5GB connection to your computer.After enable SMB multichannel on the Nas and voila 224MB/s.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 месяца назад +2

      I didn’t get into Link Aggregation but yeah it could go faster.

    • @pbrigham
      @pbrigham 2 месяца назад +2

      @@landpet Is NOT link agreegation,you even don’t need a managed switch, any normal switch will work as long they are 2.5GB ofcourse.

      @@landpet you need make a backup of the NAS in another drive and also cloud backup to make a real backup of your files.

      @@JohnSmith-zl8rz I agree that a local NAS is not a complete backup solution. But if the original data is on the computer's hard drive, the copy on the NAS is the first backup and the further copy to a remote location is the second backup - then the NAS is a part of a backup solution; and a cost-effective one at that.
