The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) told us that: “Every innovation is going astray, and every going astray will be in the Fire.” Narrated by Muslim Every innovation is misguidance. This is an innovation. These acts may look good, but we have numerous Sahīh Hadith where people would do innovation that they thought was good and were corrected by the Prophet pbuh and the Sahabah. By adding things like this, you are saying that Muhamad pbuh didn’t teach us the best ways to worship-so you had to add more. This is misguided Sufism. Jabir ibn Abdullah reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would praise Allah in his sermon as He deserves to be praised and then he would say, “Whoever Allah guides, no one can lead him astray. Whoever Allah sends astray, no one can guide him. The truest word is the Book of Allah and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. The most evil matters are those that are newly invented (in the religion), for every newly invented matter is an innovation. Every innovation is misguidance and every misguidance is in the Hellfire.” Then the Prophet would hold up his two fingers and say, “The Hour and I have been sent as close together as these two.” Whenever the Prophet mentioned the Hour, his cheeks would turn red and he would raise his voice and become very upset, as if he were warning us of an approaching army, saying, “It is coming in the morning or the evening!” Then the Prophet would say, “Whoever leaves behind his wealth, it is for his family. Whoever leaves behind a debt or his dependents, then they are my responsibility. If a specific number is prescribed in sharee’ah then no one has the right to go beyond that, and if no number or way is specified then no one has the right to invent a limit for it, because that implies that one is assuming the role of a lawgiver. This is further supported by the report narrated from Sa’eed ibn al-Musayyib (may Allaah have mercy on him). He saw a man praying more than two rak’ahs after dawn had come (i.e., Fajr), and he told him not to do that. The man said, “O Abu Muhammad, will Allaah punish me for praying?!” He said, “No, but He will punish you for going against the Sunnah.” Look at the understanding of this great Taabi’i, may Allaah have mercy on him. That is because the regular Sunnah is to pray only two rak’ahs after the dawn has come, not more than that, then to pray the obligatory prayer of Fajr. A similar report was narrated from Imam Maalik (may Allaah have mercy on him). A man came to him and said: “O Abu ‘Abd-Allaah, from where should I enter ihraam?” He said, “From Dhu’l-Hulayfah, from where the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) entered ihraam.” He said, “I want to enter ihraam from the Mosque, from near the grave (meaning the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)).” He said, “Do not do that, for I fear fitnah (trial, affliction) for you.” He said, “What fitnah is that? It is just a few miles I am adding.” He said, “What fitnah is greater than your thinking that you have found something good that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) failed to do?! I heard that Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): ‘And let those who oppose the Messenger’s (Muhammad’s) commandment (i.e. his Sunnah legal ways, orders, acts of worship, statements) (among the sects) beware, lest some Fitnah (disbelief, trials, afflictions, earthquakes, killing, overpowered by a tyrant) should befall them or a painful torment be inflicted on them’ [al-Noor 24:63].” This is the understanding of the Sahaabah, Taabi’een and Imams. As for the people of bid’ah, they say, “What fitnah? It is only dhikr and prayer and a few miles by which we seek to draw closer to Allaah.” No wise person should be deceived by the words of these people, for the Shaytaan has made their deeds appear attractive to them, and they hate to go against their shaykhs and the leaders of their tareeqahs. Every Muslim should aim to follow the Quran and the Sunnah by the understanding of the generations that the Prophet pbuh said were best (Sahabah and Tabi’un and the one after that). Each and every thing we do in terms of worship or anything pertaining to the religion should be taken back to the Quran, the Sunnah of Muhammad pbuh and the understanding of the righteous predecessors. So again, the burden of proof falls upon the doer of the action, in this case would be you (or those in the video). It falls upon you to provide Sahīh evidence that this action found in this video was done by Muhammad pbuh or encouraged by him, and that the best generations did this. Although it is not my burden of proof since I am merely calling to adhere to the Quran and Sunnah, I still have provided Hadith that show that Muhammad pbuh was very against ANY act of innovation/Bid’ah. Every time you listen to the Khuttbah on Friday’s, the Imam will repeat what Muhammad pbuh always repeated where he says that every act of innovation is misguidance. The proof on my behalf is found that the Prophet pbuh Himself states countless times that there shall be zero new acts of worship, and he pbuh has provided us all the best ways of worship and all the best ways of practicing this Deen and no human knows better about that than Muhammad pbuh.
