    Maybe you could explore the differences between their respective violas? Paganini had a Guarneri violin, but preferred the Stradivari viola if my memory serves me correctly.

    I like Guarneri mostly the nice G string boldness but i have an early 20th century Stradivari copy....it's ok but still working on its lack of presence....some Strads have a great G stringe also..thanks for the comparison videos...i learn so much from you!

    But ,,, what about Amati ??
    Wasn't he before the others and helped to shape the violin ??
    I might be wrong though ,,,, if I am , I apologise and thank you for All that you do to inform , teach and inspire us !!

      You are right Russ, but Guarneri and Stradivari are the most famous ones. Also sound wise they are even nowadays up to date.
      But I will sign me on my list AMATI.
      Good or good?

      and thanks for your support

    Thank you Mr. Russ! Open C bouts and Guinea pig f holes and imprecise purffling! Right! Got it excellant! Those are the hallmarks of Guarnieri violin. I agree I cannot judge by one instrument, still am fastenated! Mr. Russ! , could you do a show of how to inlay a piece of ivory into tailpiece slot? Very currious to try this on my student violin. I would hope that this would add incisiveness to the tone but could be wrong. Your thoughts welcomed on this subject. Sincerely chris in usa.april 30, 2024. THANKS!😅😅

    Hi Edgar, what makes today's master violin makers copy Guarneri, Stradivari, and Montagnana? I mean, how come after so many years, still we haven't found any other design that may sound more desirable than those old designs?

    • @EdgarRuss

      Dear Leonel,
      Sounds interesting but very likely the difference will not be as dramatic as if you would switch to a boxwood fitting since it is much lighter.
      But who knows you love the pernambuco.

    A 'copy' of the shape of the body only. The sound of the instruments would be unrecognizable to Guarneri - his instruments have all been 'modernised': longer neck at increased angle, larger bass bar, metal strings, modern bridge, and played with a modern Tourte bow - the sound therefore is completely different compared to the original set-up, lower pitch, and gut strings etc.

  • @bluehoo0
    @bluehoo0 4 года назад +1

    Thank you for the information. Does the variation in body length effect the sound?

    • @EdgarRuss
      @EdgarRuss  4 года назад

      Yes I think so!
      I would rather make it shorter than longer in order to get a better sound.
      Same is valid for cello.

      @@EdgarRuss is that why I find quite a few guaneri copies with lengths like 352mm? While smaller violins tend to have a powerful sound, is it the case that larger instruments have more overtones and more sweetness, especially to E string? It seems like luthiers nowadays want the violin to sound loud and not really focusing on the sweetness of sound?

      Dear Sam, Its already for a while that I didn't count anymore.
      Maybe 400 instruments; maybe even more.
      In the past 10 years I slowed down and I focus more on certain details while the first 25 years of my making I speeded up.
      Booth ways are necessary to have a certain ability.

      I would love to know that everyone in the world could afford to own at least one of my instruments. I am very sorry, but I am born here in Europe and here working and paying bills and taxes to run a shop as honest as possible makes things so expensive.
      Anyhow all the best to all of my friends in Argentina.

      Vivis en un pais q todo es gratis incluso para extranjeros, entonces todo es malo feo y CARO. O sea comprate un violincito chino y empeza a votar a los q no son ladrones. Osea jodete y deja de llorisquear como si fueras victima, es tu culpa

    • @carmelohugopedace4299

      Parece mentira que sin motivos me respondas con tanta grosería y mala intención, No quiero faltarte el respeto, porque me pondría a tu altura. Te diré que tengo 75 años de edad, soy médico jubilado en actividad, y a pesar que nací en la década del primer peronismo, jamás gasté un voto en ellos.
      He votado a Macri para ver el cambio y sin embargo también se ha equivocado. Soy de una generación muy golpeada entre militares corruptos y peronistas ladrones- Pero sabes qué??? yo y muchos más no tenemos la culpa de ello, y tampoco reniego de mi país.
      Tampoco lloriqueo, simplemente si Edgar tuviera planes de pago en cuotas, seguramente podría comprarlo. Tampoco dije que sus productoa sean malos o feos, simplemente que no puedo pagarlo al contado.
      MT: Te compadezco por tu soberbia e ignorancia. La grandeza de Argentina al tener educación y salud gratuita para todos en sus hospitales y unversidades, no condice con el desagradecimiento de los que usufructúan esos derechos y sin embargo no lo agradecen. .
      Pero eso no es culpa del que da con el corazón sino del que recibe con vileza y desagradecimiento.
