I think Rora's parents are pretty strict taking into account that she didn't stay in dorm despite living in Seul. So probably they put some kind of conditions (maybe until she finished grammar school). Like you can see that Rora is very outspoken but you couldn't see that in last evaluation because she had probably the least footage. This is a reason as well why she is less popular but that definitely would change soon. Probably she would MC on Inkyago or Mcountdown.

Her parents despite having kid in show business looks pretty responsible taking into account that she didn't stay in dorm despite not living in Seul. Clearly this was a reason why she was less featured in their show while she is now pushed as main group speaker.
Rora has caught my eye since their evaluation period, sadly she isnt seemed to be pushed as much as other members yet. Hope to see more of her in upcoming album

Honestly, Rami doesn't get enough praise despite being the strongest in the group vocally! (This comment section is proof of it)Her vocal agility, healthy belting, pitch accuracy and absolute comfort in all her registers is mind-blowing. She's definitely one to look out for and it's so frustrating to see someone so vocally endowed not get the recognition they deserve. However as you said, her voice is the most atypical in the group, which may deter some people but i honestly think its serves as a strength to have an extraordinary voice .

Rami and Rora are powerhouse and standout vocalists. Pharita shows potential as well. They bring something to the kpop sphere however, YG needs to play their cards right with their music and creative direction because they aren't utilising the full potential of the member's vocal skills, especially in ballads. So far, YG seems to still put them in their comfort zone with their formulaic and predictable song structures. Sheesh in fact, didn't bring variety to their discography. Sheesh sounds rather predictable and flat. I want to hear some early 2000s pop music from them specifically if they take notes from Birtney Spears since these members are highly stylistic vocalists. Birtney Spears is also a singer who relies on style over technique so I think it will fit the members a lot and it gives YG some variety in their catalogue.
Go listen to “LIKE THAT”…it’s so different than Sheesh. I don’t like Sheesh much, but at least they’re starting off better than NMixx. Even NMixx is coming around with their music now with their latest comeback.
@inquisitvem6723 I listened to that. Despite giving variety, never release a track from assy Charlie Puth like I don't like this man. Like that is fine, but it's very sparse and bland like there is no oomph and substance. It's too simplistic. I need something more than just guitar samples like take OnlyOneOf's Instinct and Jaehyun's Forever Only as an example. They use guitar samples throughout the track, yet they sound more fulfilling, and they have distinctive personalities in their compositions. That is what Like That lacks music-wise.

@ddhika7332 I say Britney Spear because she has one of the best discographies in Western pop. I listen to her albums, and they hold a lot of nostalgia and character to them. She has a distinctive early Y2k pop discography, and that is what I want Babymonster to do. I don't like Ariana Grande and Christina Aguilera's discographies a lot. Therefore, I chose Britney Spears, and Babymonster can enhance and further develop this Britney Spears inspiration by their vocals.
I love their unique vocal colors. I strongly prefer when groups incorporate performers with more distinct voices because they yield much more interesting results than when every vocalist sounds the same.

Really loving her low tone. First time heard it i had to replay it couple times cause it was good. Since women has naturally high pitch voice a lower one gives her edge. If she develop more she could be like Miley Cyrus and her low tone agility

Thank you SO MUCH for putting some respect on Pharita and Rora's names - especially Pharita. I won't name names, but there's another vocalist that gets all the kind comments, credit, and attention for vocals with this group and it honestly frustrates me so much because fans hated this person at first and now they love them. They just follow trends and what they think they have to say, vs. realizing this group is stacked with MULTIPLE talented vocalist and Pharita frequently has the hardest, or one of the hardest, vocal parts in their songs and she crushes it. She's easily a Main/Lead Vocalist.

I noticed most singer reactors find Rora as their favorite. I believe because of the emotion and technical ability is shown.

I only listen to them occasionally, but noticed that all of them sing well! Rami is crazily talented, she can easily pop up to the 6th octave and her voice is really agile. So she has the darkest voice in the group? Interesting. Rora sounds solid, hope to hear more from her.
I don't know, sometimes Ahyeon's belt scares me. It reminds me of the rockers I used to listen to, and so many of them ended up having problems with their voice. I hope she can belt more comfortably and get even better vocally.

perfect description of Rami's voice. I find her tone to be dark, and mysterious. She has a way of expressing a dark and painful past. Her jazz cover was a surprise for me and I would really like to hear her cover some of Adele's work because, their styles seem to be a perfect match.

1. ahyeon high note isn't healthy at all it's risky for her future as a vocalist, she utilize her volume well but she needs to find healthier way to belt
2. Imo pharita voice suits low to middle more instead of higher notes, it sounds a bit shrill for me. I get it she gets tons of high and clear singing parts cuz she's stable and she has solid English pronunciation but I js enjoy her low middle more
3. YG producers dk what to do with rora 💀, I watched their 1st recording behind. She's a vocalist who knows how to sing not merely copying certain singing style like most of kpop idol but she's getting a bit mediocre? cuz they keep giving her random falsettos parts and done. with her type I feel like they should give the higher notes to her instead she has so much potential and I feel like SM would've handled her better
Agree with everything. I think the reason why rora's position as a vocalist is undetermined in a way is because yg is pushing ahyeon and rami as main vocals. Ahyeon got the high notes even tho rami would've done a better job on it and her vocals is clearly not up for it. They think powerful voice is best and fail to consider that those type of vocals can sound bad when not properly trained.

I all agree with you and thank you a lot for this candid review. As Nswer, I'm genuinely thrilled to see another group capable of live performances debut in the K-pop scene. It's even better that they're very young ones with high potential. Adding to the established groups like NMIXX, Aespa, STAYC and etc, I hope the new girl groups with true talent and passion, such as Kiss of Life, Young Posse, and Baby Monster, will continue to enrich the K-pop landscape. Here's to all the groups that work sincerely and earnestly-may they thrive and prosper!
Yes sadly Hybe girl groups have really good music but they don't have the proper vocal training, i know your comment has nothing to do with them but i wanted to point out the big difference in training system these companies have, it's quite surprising, when you hear for example the weakest vocalists of this group sounding much more better live than their regular idols even though i would agree NewJeans members have very good voices specially Danielle and Hanni, and Le Sserafim simply has a vocalist that is going through a bad vocal period.
this right here!! even if some ppl don't vibe with nmixx's or baemon's music, it's still SO GOOD to see talented idols slowing becoming the trend again. it's a shame that the biggest oligopoly in kpop has been pushing mediocre vocalists to the point that kpop as a whole had its image tarnished. at least we know that talent always wins in the end as it is the only thing that stands the test of time.

@@moonlightespt1946The problem with hybe is their obsession with beauty.Hybe just recently has hired female trainees and bought subsidiaries a few years ago.They usually ignore trainees or potential female trainees with good vocal foundations to create their cookie cutter visual groups.They also have a weird obsession with very young female trainees that lack proper training .R u next was a survival show under hybe ,where they had two very capable vocalists such as jiwoo and Chanelle but they didn’t fit their second version of new jeans ,so they ultimately eliminated both of them.They should focus on the quality of their artists skills instead of the looks as they would even go that far to destroy their very young idols teeth to get that "perfect" look with veneers.That company is such a shame honestly…

When i saw ahyeon's performances, my first thought was she's a bit "reckless" in singing and sometimes in dancing. That's why her belts sometimes are not easy on the ears and are more shouty.
Also, their music shows live performances was pretty sus from the start, you couldn't hear much movement in their voice and when some members put down their mics earlier than needed, you can still hear their vocals perfectly clear.
Backing vocals work like that especially ending are louder than beginning. Because you take breath at the beginning of your part and because you are dancing there is high probablity that your ending would be unstable or even you don't have time to sing that part because you would lack of breath. For example you can hear that ASA backing track is made that way that she never rap her last sentence. So girls put microphone down because that's how they are trained to work with backing track. Don't take a risk because there is high probablity of fuckup. Of course professionally they should pretend that still sing. But every group which sing pretty loudly do that.

@@martacastillo6272 Well working well with backing is also part of professional craft of performers who sing ad dance simultaneously. In my opinion big reason of Le sserafim controversies on Coachella was lack of experience with that. That's why Sakura performance was clearly better than normally because she is the most experienced in this matter in this group. Of course good vocal training is needed as well for that.
Because the music shoe is pre recorded already the fan cam is definitely the not so live version of them singing while the broadcast one is them really singing LIVE which if you watch it again their mics and voices are in sync. I mean that's how music show works.
Music show use lot of camera & more than one take for performers, blame video editor for that, look at radio show, that's aired live if you want to hear their live vocals, lame ass used mushow to shade 😂😂😂

I feel bad for Ahyeon cause having the most complete voice in terms of technique, she is sided by "fans". I think she is a good exemple of what is breath support n what it affects, her projection, confort and confidence singing.
Rami is that friend you know you can trust to pull through. She’s just top notch level A. Rora, she’s def serving as the second strongest vocalist in terms of her her tone, technique and control… clearly shes underrated, as we’ve yet to seen her full potential shine in a song.
As much talent as I think Ahyeon has, I just cannot stand her tone/intonation (or lack there of). She’s also currently doing stuff way too ambitious for her current technical level causing her to sound shouty and overall not too pleasant.
Now if only we could some better music and lyrics from them, and as much as Blinks are tired from him… I do think they would sound amazing on a Teddy track.
Ahyeon strength is her powerfull vocals which type of voice you don't like at the end of the day it's still base on people perspective and how people listen it love people who go to the fan meeting really wowed with Ahyeon vocals and they keep saying she really sounds so good live.
For my perspective I like Ahyeo vocal techniques and tone is rare to hear this kind of tone in KPOP she have a good powerful voice as well which added spice to her weapon

I also don’t mind a powerful vocalist (Rami is my favorite vocalist in the group), I just don’t like an untrained vocalist screaming in my ear because she doesn’t have the proper technical foundation to go that high safely. Because that simply showcased POWERFUL VOCALS! It's only after the evaluation and the narrative that it sets people's perspective changes. Pharita has shown stable singing in almost every vocal range and technique, not limited herself to anyone! But it baffled me when people say she has worked so hard on singing like seriously 😒

Ahyeon has tiny and very thin vocal tone that's why it's better for high or peak part of the song. And i like Rora's vocal tone the most too. It has warmth and raspiness
firstly I love the members vocal skills so much. like they‘re really nice to listen to. and rami has that special something to me personally. and second I really like the editing style of this video. I also hope the girls keep training and improving their vocals would be great to see and ofc listen to.

so glad to see rora appreciation. i remember she didn’t stand out that much for me during the evaluations (ahyeon was my fav) . after watching the last evaluations’ solos, rami and asa impressed me a lot. but when they released batter up, rora surprised me A LOT and i literally thought “i can’t believe yg was about to kick her out”, bc her voice is literally sooo good and in terms of skills she’s probably the best after rami. her tone is so soothing. i really hope she gets to showcase her vocals in future songs and that people stop undermining her talent as a vocalist, because she deserves as much praise as the other girls.
They just debut and still a long way to go to reach that level of professional vocalists.

It seems like some Kpop companies finally took the fans' demands about live vocals seriously. With Nmixx, Kiss of Life and now Babymonster, the new generation is in good hands
Nmixx and kiof are already there, the problem is they get buried and ignored by general consumer because their fans voices aren't heard by most people causing alot of them don't care about vocals before up until this controversy about not being able to sing live. I'm not making this about baemon but alot of the people started to switch after they got trending, making nmixx and kiof also shine together.
@@obriendenis3965 The unfortunate reasons why they haven't been that huge are: 1) Kiss of Life come from a small company, which is sadly always a big obstacle for groups to overcome; 2) Nmixx had one of the most disastrous debuts I've ever seen from a Big 4 group and they've been trying to restore their reputation ever since (and they've been doing a good job of it, they're slowly getting bigger).

The pattern continues that people who actually know something about vocals spots the stability and advanced vocal abilities of Rora. I too hope that they will give her material to show off her abilities more. This is such a powerful and skilled group that time will be the issue with 7 members and allowing each to shine enough. Hopefully the promised sub-groups will allow even more of their skills to be shone to the world. All 5 of the vocalists give hope to the industry in the 5th gen.

I am so hyped for their possible progression especially Rami, Chiquita and Rora.. however the Nmixx comparisons.. yeah no maybe ZB1 their vocal line seriously doesn’t disappoint
i think zb1 are definitely solid but there's still a pretty gap between nmixx and zb1s vocal line, especially the main vocalists

I like Rami and Rora tone of voice the most... hope to hear more from them. I stan talented kids not popular ones. Im not even a fan of the group...I'm almost into them except their music wise is not my thing I would listen frequently. But enjoy watching them.
Everytime i listen to their live performances i can hear that some certain notes from Ahyeon and Pharita sound a bit unhealthy. Especially for Pharita, I'm just so afraid such singing ESPECIALLY without a proper technique might damage their vocals too early 😭But thank god Rami and Rora feel comfortable in their parts❤
Please listen "Struck in the middle" (version OT6 - Live Stage) and "Christmas without you" carefully again, who did the best vocal in the same parts. The people's comments praised Pharita's vocal so good. Her voice is very stable and very smooth as the same record. (she did really good for Live Stage Presence).

(you could see the background at the end of this song). It's big different from her high note in the song " All Of Me". (It depends on the concept of those songs.). She just did it as per YG produces' request. For as their Live Stage Presence, her high note was better than the MV a lots. In my opinion, she did the live state singing the most stable and the same as audio record.

I have to agree. Sometimes if not most of the times Winter's vocals come off as nasal and her high notes sound so forced which is why I prefer Ningning's high notes

Rami got strong and uniq voice.... Pharita and Rora got sweet,great and beautiful voice.... Both of them will carru any song very well...with 3 of them BM song will be sound great... Chiquita and ahyeon got strong personality..chiquita vocal also good...ahyeon rapping was ok because Asa and Ruka already manage that part so well... Both of them so great at rapping with each other

I've never seen any non-delulu person put Ahyeon above them, but I have seen Pharita placed at the bottom way too much for how relatively impressive she is in the group. I've never understood that honestly, cuz I don't think Pharita does anything worse than Chiquita and Ahyeon (I'm not trying to hate on any of them, I like all the members, this is just how I feel about their vocals).

Yeah.... I was always right about rami and rora having the most dynamics as singer than ahyeon. Ahyeon may sound absolutely beast with those high notes but those are emotionless 90% of time. I would say her technique is super solid but the way she channels it doesn't resonate with me like other two.... But I know she is in right hand ...as the time goes on she will definitely find her true potential. Actually it feels really weird to critique anything about baby monster's vocal line.... Collectively its just one of the best among 5th gen.... So as a listener i just want them to improve more and more in future and become the next big star.... Just like their sister group.

im a blink, but i admit that vocals are not really blackpinks forte, but for sure, they are great performers.. babymonsters, on the other hand, have so much vocal potential, and yg is surely promoting that. im a little sad that you have not included asa and ruka in this video. asa can also sing, but yes, you are right that both of them lean more on the rap. i also agree with what you said for each of the 5, especially with ahyeon. ahyeon is no doubt vocally talented, but i feel that most fans are quite overhyping her. her belts scare me(both for dangerously cover and sheesh) because they dont seem really stable. my favorites are rami and rora, and also chiquita's style (but she didnt have any chance to showcase this so far) overall, thank you for finally reviewing babymoster, i hope you include them in some of your future videos because we are getting more and more live content especially now with their tour that kicked off in tokyo. i love to see more and more groups that actually pay attention to vocals.

@poporing856 ahyeon is great, and i agree with you that she gives color to the group and is undeniably the core centre. without her, it's just not the same, it's not babymonsters. but as the video mentioned, she hasnt fully mastered the belting, its quite rough on some of their performances, which is why i am saying she is overhyped and i meant this as "currently." im pretty sure she and the other members will just grow more and more and more. i also think the overhype was the cause of her not being in batter up.. but we know yg and the girls they practice and practice and oeactice til they master their craft which i love compared to some groups nowadays... anyway, tldr. she can belt but not always clean.
I don’t think Ahyeon’s belts are unstable tbh, but it still needs perfecting and she has to work on the rest of her voice.

When I watched this pre-debut video of Rora 9:11 I thought she was going to be the main vocalist of the group, however she's being treated as a sub-vocal at this point. She hasn't received any key point, vocal highlight, ''wow'' moment in their songs

She is not treated like sub-vocal at all and this is only BM start. Her parts always vocally complex and rich if you listen them carefully. I agree her parts dont have wow effect in public. The most usually notice only belts and hight notes. She will get them, and I really hope YG focuses on her lows too ("Forfeit" is the best she sang imo)
My impression from Babymonster at this point is that Rami and Pharita are definitely main vocals, quite probably Rora too. I am an absolute sucker for unique tones, and YG has always been so great at this, plus balancing out can be tricky, they do this well too, hence why in my opinion those 3 are very much likely the main vocals, they also have the most developed technique and versatility.
Ahyeon can be tricky, I think YG's intention with her it's to stun the public, since she's probably FOTG, many see her as a "mini Jennie" so she has potential to bring A LOT of attention to the group, plus has a powerful tone. However, the belts are lacking technique. It's a comfortable area for her as you discussed but you can hear her faulter ever so slightly in the high note of "Sheesh" in some performances. She is an amazing singer and can become even better, but again, she's still so young, needs a lot of further training. It's the same with Chiquita. She has an interesting tone and she's versatile too, but she's so young, it's hard to say since her voice is still going to face several changes. She hasn't displayed much and has stayed in a comfortable range so far, but pre-debut has shown a lot of tension in a higher range when not doing falsetto. Asa, in my opinion, has shown better pre-debut vocal technique than her, even in "Stuck In The Middle" it's noticeable that Asa has vocal potential.
Anyway, these are my two cents :) I think they are all immensely talented and as always, YG chooses singers with such different vocal colours, I'm always fascinated by their singers.
And also, I love your videos! I'm a 10+ year musician, vocal teacher and have a BA and MA in vocals, so it's very hard to find opinions that aren't biased 😄 your videos are always very informative and accurate 👏

Rami’s voice is my fav, but Rora is no joke (the two of them together equals pure magic.) I was pleasantly surprised by Chiquita’s vibrato as KPOP in general has a “less is more” approach and I am def a vibrato stan!

As we were introduced that, Rora & Pharita can play instruments and may be Rami (OP found her carrying kinda guitar or bass bag in her way back home from YG building) I wish to see these 3 in band project.🎉 They may have not much hype skill like Ahyoen and Ruka but these 3 have the most stable voice on live stage.

What I love about this group is while they're all in varying stages of vocal development, everyone of them has been trained to project. No one sounds doubtful or disengaged when singing.
This comment section is really wild, give the girls more time they are just starting their idol careers. They still have a lot to learn, also some here are attacking Ahyeon like she's done so bad. Ahyeon just turned 17 and she just debuted a month ago please spare her some slack, the girl has been through a lot already. Maybe you don't like her vocal technique then skip her just don't downplay her effort in growing her abilities and keep comparing her to her other members. They are all good vocally with distinct voices and they will reach their full potential with years of experience.

Yes,I mean… they just debuted and we see them sing live not often. And Nmixx have debuted 2 years ago, and we have seen a looot of their singing live. Definitely not comparable. And the fans shouldn’t compare to criticize some groups…
Although not on a super developed level, Ruka and Asa are still considered vocalists though they have under-developed vocals because they both have shown the abilities to sing, Ruka probably has the most under-developed vocals which is why she does not sing often but she can and did sing. (they are an all rounder group)
Edit: Most of their performances was actually Live, the two hand mic ones were to prove it for people accusing them of not or sum i think, but if you listen to their other performances from the start most of it was live except the chorus and dance break part. (the hand mic were the fully live versions)
I think what stands out for me is how different the vocalists are. All of them are great and like rora and chiquita are so young they are only going to get better. Remember they are in YG so their vocals are only going to improve. Ahyeon isn’t just a belter. She has a very unique tone which is why it sounds amazing every time she follows Rami. She has a raspier growling voice which contrasts rora and pharita sweeter voices. And then Rami is just what I like to call the “mic dropper”. She is clearly the main vocalist and she’s special because she has a soulful voice which is so rare in kpop so she stands out.
I think in 5th gen there are no equals. When you start talking 4th gen you mentioned nmixx and what I would say is they are so young and they just debut so you can assume safely that they must get better with more experience. And we sleep on someone like Asa. I love Lisa but Asa is a better vocalist and I would argue is on par with her rapping. Lisa and blackpink have of course the ultimate weapon which is that they are the stage presence and performance masters but that’s with 7 years under their belts. Right now they are still not widely known but as they progress and collaborate with main stream artists people will start to ask who these girls arr

Rami is, in my opinion, the only vocalist whose voice really stands out in the group. The other four, although I try and try, I cannot differentiate them since they all use the same style...
Also, I could not be less interested since all they've had to offer from debut has been the saaaame ooold YG boring trope. When a YG gg gives us real interesting and authentic music, then I'll consider what they might bring to the table. These girls deserve not to suffer from Girl Crush and empty unoriginal choruses and should actually have a decent career.

There is no need for anyone to be the main center. It must always be able to change in the performance in order for it to be correct.
Every group has advantage and disadvantage. BM is pretty good vocal group, even taking into account age very good. But their biggest advantage is even something else which all YG artists have: charisma and ability to stand alone on the stage. So I agree that vocally they are not on the level of Nmixx or Aespa. But on the level charisma at least at both of these groups rookie time they are on another level. Like you can clearly see that YG trainees apparently have to just performance more live than others companies because most their idols even ex trainees just stand out even in their groups. This is definitely as well aspect which they search in trainees. Like girls after month of performance looks like most groups after one tour one the stage.

I feel like Rami and Ahyeon are the most praised members in the vocal line of BM. I get that they are good, but i never see as much comments or opinions about Chiquita, Pharita and especially Rora. Their talents goes almost unnoticed, even though they sing like monsters, if you wanna say. With Pharita’s high note in Stuck in the middle, and Chiquita and Rora having theis peak eras in both Batter up and SITM as well. In my opinion due to stuff like Ahyeon’s return for example (again I’m not saying this as a bad thing, i think Ahyeon slays, same goes for Rami) they have an underwhelming amount of talk if i may say. And finally the most unnoticed one is Asa, like have you heard her notes and singing in Stuck in the middle, she was INCREDIBLE! Asa could be given so much more singing parts instead of only rapping, Rora should be given more lines, so she can shine as well!
Asa wants to be a rapper first and foremost. They already have 5 vocalists and they're struggling to showcase them all consistently, there isn't space for more.

Thanks for reacting to BabyMonster. They all need improvement because you still so young. The vocal quality expecting take decades or even a life time. Just say they are great vocalist for their ages and setting a new standard in Kpop. YG did say they are the Next Movement. In a industry full of Milli Vanilli for lip-syncing, can't sing in tone and all they did was dance. They were strip from all the awards and accolades while been #1 in their heydays. You might as well watch WWE and calling it MMA. Respect the vocals and artists who can really sing. Especially, if you are an Idol singer and performer.
What I am worried about most.... that YG makes this all a popularity contest and gives the most lines to the most popular member. I feel that skill and ability go hand in hand. And if YG allows the other members to shine, then Babymonster will be an unstoppable force. But if they only focus on 2-3 members and neglect the other 5 then you will just have Superman and his Superfriends. You need a balanced group, with each member getting their chance to shine. With that being said.... Ballads!!! I know this is K-pop, but vocalist shine when they are able to perform a ballad with minimal intrusion from backtracks and instrumentals. So.... maybe produce an album with 5 Pop tracks + 4 ballad tracks. the 5 Pop tracks to appeal to the masses, and the 4 ballad showcasing the growth and potential of the vocalists.
They just starting, it's the usual strategy to use the most popular member first to gaining audiences, then they will push the other members as well 😊
