    I have fair warm olive skin, but my lip color is quite a cool mauve, which has thrown me off for ages, because what looks good on my lips does not always look good on my cheeks and vice versa. And it makes finding a good lip liner to overline my lips difficult because a lip liner needs to be even more cool toned and pink compared to my lips to compensate for the warm olive skin. It has taken me so long to figure all of this out, and I have a background in arts and color theory like you. You are doing the make up (nerd) community such a service by breaking it all down!

  • @musicirene
    @musicirene 19 дней назад +22

    I'm very fair with green-blue undertones and it took me sooooo long to figure what looks good on me, and what foundation products i needed. In practice that means I need desaturation first, because most products with any 'skintone' pigment WILL turn pink or orange on me, and it also means that most drugstore items won't work. Second, I try to limit the coverage and actual areas of coverage as much as possible, in order to harmonize to my skin tone and neck (which is even lighter/translucent than my face). My cheeks can be very colourful and will turn a bright fuchsia pinkish purple, and my lips do have some mauve/purple coloring as well, that's why I think I have blue undertones, not only olive.
    I really appreciate what you said about the blue undertones; I have a lot of pewter and cool purples in my collection, ,which makes sense. It also explains why I never got into the 2016 warm eyeshadow looks; they looked like I smeared orange stuff all over my face!
    My favourite eyelook is a taupe/cool brown base with silver/champagne shimmer, that looks killer with my light blue/grey eyes as well.
    Thank you Kackie for your in depth, clear and organized overview on this topic!! I often have to do my own makeup for stage/TV/daytime glam etc and knowing this information makes me feel so confident and excited in doing my makeup!!!

    Hi @kackie - I tried to open the color cards and they all want me to request access; I think a setting may have gotten bumped.
    I'm still not sure if I'm a warm olive or cool olive. Everything turns peach (yellow-orange) OR orange on me, am I just neutral olive? Or maybe I have a cool undertone but warm overtone? I tried RMS Hanky Panky and it looked muddy orange-brown on me. I like wearing Milani Merlot Moment but it looks almost salmon on me, which is oddly really pretty, but it's definitely not the "natural rosy flush" that red blush is "supposed" to be? However Essence Lovely Lilac looks bright pink. So I THINK cool but I don't know. I gravitate toward neutral pinks, mauves, and taupes/neutrals.

    This definitely has me thinking more about my undertone. I always thought i was a pale, cool, pink undertone - but i am not sure if that is just because i am so trasnslucent and i have a natural flush to my cheeks. Things usually turn orange on me, so im wondering if i am more of a cool blue.

I mean, I've always wanted to wear a nude blush but all the ready-made ones turn orange on me so I've been layering something like RMS Crystal Slipper or Maiden's Blush with something mauve, like RMS Kir Royale and it makes a nude that is like custom-made for me :) It works with drugstore brands, too. Warm and peach foundations turned orange, neutral foundations turned pink, too golden foundations were just too yellow and if it was too olive it looked gray. A Sephora employee finally correctly determined my deep tan skin has a golden overtone with neutral leaning warm, olive undertones. I now have some great foundation matches. Seriously thank you for this video. I ‘think’ I’m that rare cool (blue) undertone (18.12) but still olive - is that possible? I have strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes. Already just 0.17% of the population, so no one is thinking of me when they make products! Fair skin with some freckles, rarely tan - I just don’t bother. As I’ve got older I’ve definitely found I’m getting redness in my cheeks, which is making things way harder. I always knew I was cool toned but am always finding ‘cool’ foundations way too pink. I’ve started wearing a green primer and it does help a bit. A few weeks ago I got given a sample of Lisa Eldridge’s skin tint in T5, it looked green, but surprise - it virtually disappeared on my skin. T6 (neutral) also just about worked but i didn’t get a sample to try in natural light. T1 and T3 were both too pink (cool) and way too pale, even though I’m super fair. I can wear bright pinks but anything warm just makes me look ill, especially eyeshadow. I normally reach for greys, silvers and cool browns, mauves - does that all make sense? I still feel confused making the right choices, are my freckles bringing a warmer (maybe more neutral) tone to my skin….ufffff so hard! But I really appreciate your content so much, no one else seems to be explaining this sh*t, just merrily slapping yellow foundation on and changing/hiding the colour of their skin!

Everyone has always said a redhead has to be warm, and also that blue eyes need copper and orange and warm browns to pop. Well, those copper warms make my blue eyes look dead! I absolutely cannot wear the colors that are prescribed for blue eyes. My best eye colors are grays and silvers and blue-toned purples and cool mauves. I can't do basically any "nudes" on the lips , and many nudes and even ones they call "pinky nudes" look peach. I think I have a pink undertone?

    • @kackie
      @kackie  19 дней назад +2

      Redheads are often cool pink! But you sound VERY cool, possibly towards blue. The pink turning peach on your lips means that your skin's undertone is exaggerating the orange tones in the lipstick (since they're next to each other visually), and blue would be the culprit there!

I’ve been told I’m a cool tone. Estée Lauder Double Wear Fresco is my color. I have blue eyes, and on the color wheel the opposite is orange, which really does make blue eyes pop. To me orange is not cool toned though, but I do get a spray tan, but it rarely lasts on my face, because a lot of products cause a spray tan to fade. The rest of me is slightly tanned, Not a crazy dark tan. I find that burgundy eyeliner or eyeshadow works really well with blue eyes. It almost makes my eyes look turquoise. There is a single brown eye shadow from Maybelline that is called Cool Cocoa, which I wear that a lot. I absolutely love makeup, but wear less than I use to, but I still love it!!! ❤❤

I finally found one foundation that actually matches me - Dior 3 Cool Rosy. Everything else that’s really close still pulls yellow/orange. I’m kind of thrilled with the current trend of lavender cosmetics because that really evens out my makeup. I use the NARS lavender liquid blush to “fix” some of my other foundations. My bed eyeshadows are gray - toned blues and purples with periwinkle being the best. But almost all other eyeshadows turn bright peach. Sigh.

That was the missing piece and it makes so much since because my dad is Irish (cool/fair) and my Italian mother was olive. I've found the best foundation matches for me are Asian brands that tend to look very grey out of the bottle (generally shade 21 is usually a good one) and also Lisa Eldridge, particularly the shade 6 in her skin tint. @ so currently I’m at my lightest because it’s winter and Im going between a few..
      Lorac contour palette (6 pan) and I use the lightest most cool tone shade but it pulls very neutral on my skin and doubles as a brontour and then when I get more color in the warmer months I use that and the medium tone. The darkest color only gets mostly on my eyes or really close to my hair line for depth. And then the highlighting shades are hardly used so when I repurchase I think I will purchase the trio palette that only has the light medium and one highlight.
      The middle shade in the KvD shading palette is very close to the lightest in my Lorac palette and they show up about the same on my skin
      The one size trio contour/bronze in fair. I’m not quite fair but this palette still works phenomenally. The color is really neutral on me and saturated enough that I can use it sheer or built up for more definition. Highly recommend
      Cream has been the toughest to find something that works so I am currently on the search for that. But two I’m making work are the shade clay in the merit bronzer stick because it’s so sheer, it’s works. I use it on the days I want more glow and warmth.
      And then the shade desert in my Danessa Myricks groundwork palette has by far been the most natural looking brontour on my skin but not ideal for daily use because of the pan size unfortunately. But it’s perfectly neutral with that green in it. I hope she sells refills one day. Or a big pan of it 😆 hope that helps!! 🥰

    Im very golden and have to be careful everything doesn't turn orange on me. I actually like cool colors because they turn more neutral (or even warmer than expected) against my skintone. Thank you for this and your padt education. Its helped me tremendously!💜💜💜

      Me too! I’m pretty light in tone, and so many of the “bronzers” on the market give Donald Trump on me. Lip colors on others pull warmer on me so all the nudes people rave about don’t look the same on me.

      @BlushingAshley exactly! I'm in the tan category and tan golden brown easy. I hate orange and yellows typically because they make me look jaundice. It's taken me years (I'm 55) to figure this out....and thanks to Kackie I'm understanding and selecting better colors. She helped me figure out my daughter is olive, which took forever to find her a foundation match, but About Face has a perfect match for her. I love this type of content... helps us help ourselves! 💜💜💜

    I love how over the last few years, people are actually understanding what an olive undertone is! Yes it is green! For so long, I felt like anyone who was naturally tan was deemed “olive.” I saw one woman a few years ago call herself olive, when she has one of the most gorgeous, unique clay-red skin tones I’ve ever seen. It was the literal opposite of olive

    I'm fair with a pink undertone, THIS explains why people blush turns pink on me. Also why pink blush turns kinda peachy. I have basically no understanding of the color wheel other than the color opposite of the one you choose cancels your original color out 😆. I've always wondered why, ty so much for answering that. Ty so much for sharing this, may God bless 💙💙

    I saw a creator (makeupbymonica) using a green colour corrector to desaturate blush and foundation. I wonder would that work on all colours for makeup?

    So, I've diagnosed myself as neutral skewing warm. I'm a natural blue-eye redhead but in photos of myself with my apple-blossom cheeked daughter, I look quite golden. Next to a South Asian friend, I appear to be the apple-blossom! I suspect a peach undertone, and colors (in makeup and clothing) can be too cool or too warm. My hair has faded, and that doesn't change my undertone but it does change my contrast. I'd class myself as a Muted/Soft Autumn but of course, I can wear many Soft Summer shades too. Lately, in makeup, I want a good match for foundation, but am leaning toward cooler tones in lip and eye makeup. My teeth look better with blue-leaning lip treatments, and same with eyes, though at my age, with makeup, less is definitely more. Enjoy your applied color theory work! Thank you!

    My first blush was a bright fuchsia pink recommended by a sales associate in bareminerals. My mom was shocked such a bright color looked natural...now know it's thanks to those cool olive undertones

    Thank you! It is confirming my choices when selecting shades. I am a fair warm olive, so yes, it’s been a journey!

    What if you are a neutral olive that leans cool towards the blue side? Some peaches look awesome on me and some don’t. Love bright pink and fuchsia and berries.
