You come up with the coolest stuff. Can't even imagine how much time you put into preparing edits. It always sounds good and well thought out. Thanks for the demo, was looking forward to seeing creative DJ's like you play with the Stems feature.
Thank you Dave! So for this set man... let me tell you. I had a good month to out something together. But I didn’t. I had a live gig, and 2 routine sets to work on. One from Rane, and this one here. I was also super into dating and my main focus was traveling up and down california to see a few women who are all amazing in their own ways. The week we recorded this I had been in LA and SD. And as much as I knew I needed to put in work unfortunately I didn’t. The night before Dennis flew out to record I had driven up from LA. When he landed I told him “hey man, head over and let’s get to work.”. I really needed to understand his vision for this project, get songs he had imagined in it, and then get to work on the edits. He picked out the Rush track. That was all his idea to have it mashed up with some biggie. I randomly came across the instrumental I used first”ten feet tall” by Flevans, and I don’t know how I ended up using the Stevie wonder track. I probably used it because it was in the same key. I knew I wanted to sample that snoop because of the line stating “the dopest... that you’re seeing on the record” and how it matched well topic wise with “sicker than your average”. After that day I told him that I would work with what we had come up with and do my best to piece it together. I said it would be best to come back the next day to shoot. The next day when he came over what I had was very bare bones but I kept pushing in and trying to find the right order for the sample and how to make the stem feature stand out. I believe I could have done a better job but I’m very happy with the way this turned out. A lot of my work is feuded by my friends and other creative minds. That snoop sample stood out to me as Spinbad used it in one of his mixtapes. It was only fitting to use it here as he is and always will be such a major major influence on my style. You could say it’s a small tribute/piece of recognition to him from me. RIP Spinbad. Thank you for taking the time to comment and show your support Dave 🙏🏻
Also more to the edit... I sped up the Rush track and actually set them all up to be at 102bpm and avoid having to use sync. I also placed them on Ableton using a template I made that separates each sample by 1 rotation of the record. That stuff is pretty cool and you can watch a video on how to do it made by DJ Angelo here m.ruclips.net/video/cOtcWU6bL8g/видео.html You can download the exact files that I used and edited below and play around with it yourself. I suggest watching the routine a bunch of times, loading VDJ and try learning it! That’s how I came up and it’s super fun to do once you start getting it! www.dropbox.com/sh/9u7krhuzxf3sdgb/AADKjxT60LHKZpdGrVAtOiZta?dl=0 Have fun man!
@@djlazyboy23 you just blew my mind. I love this reply! I watch your routines and listen to Spinbad mixes CONSTANTLY and try to disect them. I love the way you guys utilize samples and make it as if you are telling a story. It is always so timely and just flat out sounds amazing (RIP Spinbad). It is interesting that you get inspiration from Spinbad mixes, but definitely not surprising. His work is amazing. Your advice above was especially helpful because I often wondered if there were secrets of the trade that I just didn't know. But you pretty much confirmed that I am over the target, I just need to keep practicing and working. I always do what you suggested and try to recreate the routine/mix on my own. I've learned a TON by doing this, especially when preparing the edits in Ableton (nice reference to the Angelo video, I've watched it several times already :) ). Wish you could have filmed the whole process you outlined above..that would have been extremely interesting to watch. You and your style of mixing/mashups have been a HUGE inspiration to me. Any time I need to get my creative juices flowing, I watch one of your routines. It just speaks to me! Thank you!! And BTW, your "Lazyboyyyyy!" drop is the best. Would love know the story behind that. It is always such a nice bow on top of the package and I'm secretly jealous of it :). It is the perfect signature for your work!
@@dshawstudio 😂😂😂 so the reason I do this is because I’ve Aleeah’s wanted my favorite djs to be open and friendly and share everything about their work! Sometimes you gotta lead by example. Thank you again Dennis for this opportunity. It’s a privilege to work first hand with the team and get this level of support and quality work!
