I love China as much as the next guy, but I wish China could get off coal and fossil fuels sooner. Peak carbon by 2030 and neutrality by 2060 is a pretty hefty goal.

Peak carbon right now would be reasonable for anybody and everybody -- but we don't have any business demanding it of the Chinese until we do it ourselves.
Still, it's worthwhile thinking about how exactly sensible it is: "Peak now" simply means we're not going to increase our bad acting. Peak later means, um, uh, we're dithering, and we're not really sincere, and we're entitled to get away with something, and FOAD.
It's not a rational position. It's a position of not doing the right thing by deciding to do more of the wrong thing -- i.e. the wrong thing.

@@TheDavidlloydjones China will play the largest role in the climate solution. They are the largest producers of solar, batteries, and soon hydrogen and wind. A lot of countries in the west like the US are refusing to cooperate and buy Chinese-made green tech products for fear of losing face. The US having any ability to seriously challenge China's dominance in green tech is a complete joke. The only thing preventing the US from going green is their pride and their hate for China.
