A hadeda family recently caused us lot of stress. The parents used our wild, indigenous garden as the foraging area to feed their single chick. A lot of noise. The young one was very loud, with its 'wiir, wiir' all the time. We have cats and dogs. The hadeda parents persisted and succeeded. There are almost always hadedas in our garden.
I can't see how it caused you stress? I feel extremely privileged when the Hadedas (or any bird for that matter) nest in my garden and feed their chicks. I, too, have a wild indigenous garden and am privileged to have many birds in the garden, nesting, feeding and I quietly observe the behaviour and learn a lot from it.
If you ever leave South Africa, you will miss it! Blue skies, koppies and khaki green look like SA; fynbos, braai smoke and road dust smell like SA; koeksusters, pumpkin fritters and lambchops taste like SA, but the hadeda sounds like SA!
@@the_real_hislordship They are very cool birds actually. You obviously don't understand them well. They are one of my favourites. Best watchdogs ever in my yard at night. One night the pair that sleep in a tree in my garden flushed out of the tree calling like this and flew into the night. My hubby went to investigate and there was an intruder in our yard. They are better watchdogs than my own dogs!
This, to me, is the true sound of Africa. Every time I hear the call, I cry. I cry for my country, South Africa. I cry for my family, my sis and my mum. I cry for my people, the Boere. Sterk staan, mense.
Interesting how sounds and bird calls from the past can evoke memories. These Hadedas are one of my absolute favourites. A pair roost in a large tree in my garden every night. I love them!
Special birds. I'm privileged to have them roost in a big tree in my garden every night. Twice they have nested in that tree. Hope they decide to nest there again this spring.
@@lynetterudman I'd rather not risk having a collar on my cats since they can choke on it if they get caught in the trees. They don't catch birds often anyway, and I know this sounds bad but I don't care for the one or two birds a month they eat anyway. The cat food has chicken in anyway and birds are Natural?
Hi there, in the beginning of this video are Speckled Mousebirds making a kind of chipping sound, then there is a soft Sombre Greenbul in the middle and at the end is a Red-eyed Dove singing.
They are large birds and make loud calls. They are excellent watch dogs. Once had an intruder in my yard in the middle of the night and a Hadeda roosting in a tree in my garden called loudly and it alerted me to the intruder's presence.
The most obnoxious bird on the planet. These bastards stand on the roof of our neighbor just to get extra volume, then make those sounds directly into our doorway.
You should count yourself lucky that you HAVE birds in your neighbourhood. These are special birds if you take time and get to know them better. They are really cool! Appreciate nature and don't slam it.
10 years away from South Africa and I miss this sound! All we have here are magpies that sit on your balcony and stare into your soul.
Once you have lived in Africa, it is hard to let her go.
lol please take these birds with you lol they sit on my roof in the mornings and you know the rest
You in Australia?

God bless that pigeon at the end, reminds me of my grandma’s old house’s garden
They both remind me of my childhood in South Africa.

This bird singing reminds me of my childhood, my mother, and my home. Oh how much I miss home Kenya 😢
Birds can bring back happy childhood memories. Mine is the call of the Crowned Lapwing.
The hadeda bird: Told me to WAKE UP
The pigeon at the end: Told me it was morning

0:40 The red eyed dove introduces himself " 🎵🎶Iam.... the red eyed dove, Iam.... The red eyed dove🎶🎵" 😊😊
True, he sings his name. I have a video about the birds that sing their names.

Playing this video is the only way I can get my Yorikie to eat!!!Thank you!
The one sound I didn't think I'd miss...
Everyone that leaves South Africa misses the raucous calls of the Hadeda.

I thought i wouldn't miss them but here I am, in Wales, on RUclips, listening to them 😂
I love these birds despite their noisomeness!
Hadedas are such special birds.
Missing home
The hadeda call is an iconic sound of africa.
Cool.. had to find this after seeing so many of them in Nairobi
Glad you found this sound clip.
Who came to this video after watching Real housewives of Dubai 😂
Chanel Ayan sent me here 😂
I use this video/sound to either get my dogs outside or to get them inside! 😁
Funniest thing I have heard in ages! Glad this sound helps you with your dogs.
Love that trick!

How lucky you are!
Usa: I get woken up peacefully by a rooster
South africa: gets waken up in a very big shock by hadeda scream
The alarm clock of Africa. Hadedas are cool!

I always love this sound reminds e of camping on the banks of the Olifants River and fishing.
The call of Africa, together with the fish eagle call. Both are iconic.
Every morning in south africa
Why do Hadedas make their distinctive sound when flying?
Cos they are afraid of heights.
LOL
@lynettrudman what bird makes that 0:42
It is a Red-eyed Dove calling. I've got several videos of them calling on my channel. Check them out.

Ahhhhhh

Assassin's Creed Origins.
Just came here to borrow on your sound 🫣
What are you going to do with the sound?
Music effect!
My cats kill all birds except the hadeda, they just sit 1m away from them and watch in sorrow as the hadeda eats their food hahahah
Pity your cats kill birds. Have you tried putting a bell on a collar?

is there any distiction between a male and female call?
I don't think there is a difference.
As someone who lived with this thing waking them up every day at 3- uhhhhhhh yea-
I think I scared my bird with this SHAME
Shame, must be very scary for a little bird to hear that loud call for the first time.
Lynette Rudman yeah hehe shame but he is kindof used to it he actually hears hadedas every day so he mimics it now 😂
PTSD OMG
