just purchased I was shocked by the temperature reached in a few minutes of recording to the point that it could not be held in the hand. even the battery life is absurd, 20 minutes in pro and 30 minutes in standard. the test was performed in winter with temperatures around 10 -15 degrees, in summer it will freeze after a while due to excessive temperatures. this is confirmed by official support !!.
recharge takes 30-40 minutes ruining whatever ride you are doing.
personally i find it hard to call it action cam like the company or youtubers or amazon's or other strangely enthusiastic reviews
High temperature is the bane of batteries too. So the battery should degrade faster than average.
Did you try gopro or dji action 2? You can burn your chest with those
I didn’t t know they made this! Thanks for the great video Rich! Just picked on up using your link! Great find!
Cool videos I love the battery solution. Found a similar one that had more ratings. Keep it up
Thanx Rich ... awesome info ... just needed that for my next vacation ...
That's great. But how the hell do you solve the over-heating then? No matter the battery life, it overheats after just 10 minutes.
I experience the same problem infact I was going to return mine but while I was away a certain family member throughout the box it came in so now I'm suck with a camera I can only shoot maybe 5-10 minutes before it overheats 🤦
You have to blow on it.....duh 🥺
i would suggest lowering the recording settings. the higher the resolution the more processing the camera has to do and that creates the heat output.
I haven’t been able to find this power mount anymore. They discontinued it 😢
Nice video Rich!
I use this on longer timelapses mounted on my motorcycle but also when im copying or editing files to save the charging case battery.
This is also the case if I'm on the road shooting inside the car and want to save battery from the charging case on my Sup adventures.
This way the Juice lasts longer 😁😁
Ps you can also use the OneR vertical battery as a portable power bank and connect it to the go2🤙
Yes file transfer is a handy feature, I should have mentioned that. Oh that’s cool I didn’t realise that about the vertical battery 👍🏼😃
@@EatSleep360 yes because it has usb c male👍
great option!! When working from a power bank, is the camera heating still strong? or work from a power bank removes the effort from the built-in battery and the camera body does not heat up so much?
The powerbank just charges the internal battery so it will still get hot
Nice review 👍😎 watching and learning about this camera
I'm confused as to the Go 2 or DJI Pocket 2. I'm not a professional at video recording or editing so I just experiment and use a huge chunk of recording time then in post edit figure out what I want to use. By that explanation, I need recording time. I want to record my bike rides, times at the beach for sharing sunrises and sunsets, recording my grandsons etc. just enjoying life. I appreciate your time in making this video. I know here you say that you don't have to worry about recording time or battery runout, how much time can you get in one shoot without the Go 2 powering down? Thanks a lot!
Hi, the setup I’m showing is the Go2 with external powerbank which wouldn’t be practical for what you want to do. The recording time for the Go2 is 15min and then you can recharge it in the cradle. If you want long record times and want the battery to last then you will probably find this frustrating. I love it for shooting 15-30 sec clips at a time. The pocket has a two hour battery life which is incredible and it’s super small and convenient and you can change the memory card.
@@EatSleep360 thank you for this understanding.
So, how long can you capture video with this capsule power bank attached to to2? Without it 15mins. With powerbank ... ?
In theory it would be around 2 hours but maybe longer if you are shooting Timelapse as this is less intense. You would have to set your record time to unlimited in settings and you may run out of memory before battery dependent on which version you have and what mode you are in. Hope this helps
good stuff, thanks Rich!
Does anyone know when the Insta360 Go3 will be announced?
Great video ,may i know where can but that small power bank ?
Search for capsule powerbank or quest 2 powerbank on amazon
What is the point of adding an additional battery when the GO2 typically stops recording due to overheating after 7 to 10 minutes?
It’s more for longer Timelapse shots where the camera doesn’t get as hot
Would this set-up allow for 5hours of continuous video recording?

Good review...thanks. I will be using my new GO2 32gb for long duration timelapses. If I connect a power bank to the USB Power Mount when the GO2 is half charged, the bank will top it up to 100% and then shut off. The GO2 then continues to operate but without the powerbank charging it unless I re-start the bank. At least that's what I think is happening. Would a "continuously on" trickle charge Power Bank be the solution? I've found the Anker PowerCore Slim 10000 that trickle charges. Comments? thanks Reg, I enjoy your videos and always learn a lot...
Thanks for the comment. Yes that’s a good point and would make sense to use a trickle charge power bank. I use anker power banks for various things and they don’t seem to switch off.
What about the over heating?
I haven’t experienced any but then I usually shoot only shorter shots - I know others have experienced over heating with this camera. I think for long timelapse shots it would be less of an issue but maybe for long video records it could overheat, I haven’t tried it yet.
how can you tell when the power mount is full charged?

Great tips - thanks
can you give me a recomendation for a powerbank. I have a Goprop Max, and Insta360 one x2 and a Go2
Anker powercore 10000 mah amzn.to/3q2XVGi or if you want a usbc output which is faster charging then this one anker powercore redux usbc amzn.to/3tgE88F (these are affiliate links)
I know this sounds dumb...but I don't understand the difference. All my cameras are USB C except i just got a Sony ZV 1 but it came with spare batteries and charger. Are there two power outputs on both Ankers?
Is it possible to connect MIC through this USB - C to get better results on AUDIO QUALITY?.. GREAT VIDEOS THKS
No unfortunately not but that would be a great idea
Yes, that Would be. These portable power bank is similar to SARAMONIC BLINK 500 MIC in shape and color @@EatSleep360
Hi, could i use a 9v battery (the square ones) to charge the insta360 go 2? (with the power mount) this is the official line... What charger does Insta360 use?
The official 9V/2A adapter is strongly recommended for the charging station. Because a 9V/2A output is strong enough for the charging station to achieve quick charge, and the official adapter can guarantee it. If the official adapter is lost, please use an adapter that has an output of 9V/2A.
I ask because im considering creating one. what do you think?
Ooops thats fo rthe insta360 x i think?
Nice review. Dont we need a extra bec when we use external power?
External power plugs into the usbc power cradle as shown in the video - you just need the cradle and a usbc lead.
Hi, I have a questiion. When you want to record 20 minute footage on pro video mode, what do you usually do? Because it will shut down every 6 minutes or getting overheated.
does the power mount have a magnetic back?
No, just the finger mount
does it work with go 3?
Life saver! Great video. Now, how do I deal with the memory issue. 32gb is killing me having to constantly transfer orbdelete
Just shoot 30 sec to 1 min clips - most of the time you don’t need more than that
There's a 64Gb version now too...but yep I agree the workflow for transferring data is a bit annoying. But I do really like the form factor. Transfering via pc/mac is quicker than using the mobile app.
hey rich how can i set this up for my hat mount for recording while on the go
Might be too heavy with the battery for a hat mount but you could maybe put a power bank at the back of the hat and run a cable.
I would probably just use it in quick capture mode without the power bank if you don’t need long records. Click it once and let it run for a minute and it will then turn off. Just squirt shots off when you need them.
Thanks for this, nice mods but to be clear - it will still overheat in 10 mins in pro mode so not really "longer shooting times"?
It’s still good for extended Timelapse shots
@@EatSleep360 For this price I expect more than a small form factor, the gopro 11 mini is the same price and can shoot for over an hour at even higher res
I'm confused between this and Insta 360 one x2 just for the ease of it. The Go2 seems more fun in mounting but I belive the battery is short lived and editing templates are limited in the app. I already have tye Dji osmo action..please suggest..
If you want 360 then it’s the one x2 and if you want a portable action camera that can go anywhere it’s the Go2. The battery does suck though and the one x2 in my opinion is the better choice if you are choosing between these two. The learning curve is steeper and it’s more delicate but it gives you total flexibility. Hope this helps
Great video. Thanks for sharing. May I ask, shall I get Go 2 or shall I wait for Go3 perhaps might coming out? Currently I own a One R. Convenient wise, which is better? Thank you.
I can’t see another Go camera coming out this year but I may be wrong. The Go2 and One R are hard to compare - if you want 360 then go for the ONER and if you want small, portable and convenient in flat format not 360 then the Go2 - the ONER and Go2 work well together.
@@EatSleep360 thank you so much. You brighten my day. I been doing a lot of camping videos & I still find uneasy on One R due to casing & changing lenses from 360 to 4k lens. Kind a hassle for me. Nevertheless I can use One R for 360 & Go 2 for random quick record on any situation. Thank you again.
Doesn't it would over heated and turn it off..............................
Nice
why doesn't anyone shoot in 50fps? whats the downside?? isn't it smoother footage? thanks
I shoot in 50p because you then have the choice to slow down or not. The disadvantage is that it takes up double the storage so with the Go2 this is quite a lot especially on the 32gb version.
Will the anker powerbank also work for the GO 3s?
Yes the Anker powerbank works with anything with a usbc pretty much
it needs a heat sink or fan coz it overheats too quickly tho
I haven’t had any over heat issues but most of my stuff is short video shots. Timelapse isn’t continuously recording so this shouldn’t cause any over heat issues. I haven’t tested long record times for other modes but have heard others having over heating issues.
may I know where to buy it how much?
I’ve left links in the description of the video
@@EatSleep360 ok thanks
Awesome solution but I never had a problem with its limitations since I found a workaround how to deal with these limitations (even on a 1000km ride). I think Go 2 was not really meant for 1 min or longer recording and I find its best use on 15-30s clip recordings only. That way, I could cover ALOT of notable scenes and places and maximizing battery life.
I have motovlogging vids on my channel if anyone is interested. I mainly use Go 2 as my main camera on my helmet ( and i just recently acquired the One RS Trio Edition which I will be using it as secondary camera)
Yes I agree I also only use the Go2 for 15-30sec at a time - it’s perfect for that. This way you are disciplined about what you shoot and it makes editing so much easier. I don’t understand it when some people film their entire bike ride - you would never watch it and it would take days to edit. Thanks for the comment
Is there any loop recording in 15 secs video?
@@EatSleep360 yea. I'd rather watch a 10min well documented bike ride than the whole 3hrs bike ride 😆
@EatSleep360 I agree BUT, being able to film the duration of the ride allows one to edit and choose to include unexpected events otherwise not captured making the final cut much more entertaining.
Did you try continuois recording with the battery plugged in? Mine still stops after 14mjns or so on pro 1080 30fps. Is the convenience jus for an easier recharge or can you get longer times? And at what settings
It’s for both longer record times and convenient charging. It will depend what powerbank you have plugged in and also you have to set the record time to beyond 15min in the app settings otherwise it will stop at the set point.
@@EatSleep360 i have it set to 30 but still stops at 15. Gets hot. Not sure if it's my battery attached but at least it's still a good portable charger for the cam
Hey mate, you say we can sue this for hours, but storage is only 32gb, i herad, 1 min =1 gb on this on pro mode
Yeah I'm referring to timelapse shots which is the main time I use this battery and this will take up a lot less memory
Can i charge instago2 when i am recording?
instago2 does not overheat?
It has for some people. Most of my stuff is short videos so I haven’t had an issue yet
What is the tripod at 2:29 ?
It’s the GoPro Shorty
What toy car did u use
I made a video on it here with a link to the car
ruclips.net/video/j0rOlwHYHFQ/видео.html
sir, i don’t find it anywhere. any suggetion where can i buy it?
Maybe Aliexpress but I don’t think it’s sold any more
Power Bank is currently unavailable. Any alternate power bank suggestions?
searched for "3300mAh Ultra Lightweight Portable Power" and found some
You can also search for capsule power bank or Quest 2 power bank
@@EatSleep360 is there anything even smaller?
I don't know how anyone could use this for anything other than time-lapse. mine over heats within 10 mins or so, especially in pro mode.
Mine doesn’t overheat but then I only record for 30 sec at a time and just use this as a battery top up rather than long record times - the battery without it sucks. You’re not the first to mention the overheating though, hopefully they will update the firmware to address it some how.
Mine camera will not start charging. I liked it but these are flawed.
One little gotcha. If you put a skin on the go 2 then the strap on the mount no longer will fit around the camera.
Good point, thanks for the comment
Looks like they use a 16850 3.7v, if that is the case, then it is very expensive.
18650. but yes, expensive just for the interface. The mount sounds like a better option
It’s £25 but I use it for my Quest 2 headset as well so it’s worth the money - there are cheaper cables mounts available you can use with the usb power cradle - thanks for the comment
found them on aliexpress for £7-8
Friend, could you sell me your power mount? :)
The biggest weaknesses is the over heating
Guess we hang finally shoot our home alone movie by now
I liv ma lif wit camra on ma head so longa battree be beta!!
0:54 please stop body shaming 😢
FAT Go2 oh my.
At 2:31, he says the power bank is the size of his thumb. Is that also body shaming inanimate objects?
You think he’s fattest?
No, I think YOU are 😂
Ever since that last update the quick buttons don't work anymore. I have to connect the camera to the phone in order to record.
Maybe they just need resetting in the app - email Insta360 - sounds like another fix is needed
