- Welcome to Episode 1 of Big Trip Northern Ireland! Today I am at Coleraine on the Belfast to Derry Line as well as the junction of the Portrush Line where services are seen by Translink NI Railways.
Coleraine was a pretty station with nice views in both directions especially with the junction in sight so you can see the lines divulge in both directions when trains leave. I found the station architecture to be slightly ran down but well looked after with a classical station sign, a very unique style indeed! The policy here was very strict too, I was almost thrown off my filming for my entire trip as passengers are not allowed onto the platforms until a certain time, however the staff were great and allowed me onto the platform to film. A lovely little station, I'd recommend it but on a weekday for sure!

Just discovered this video. Brings back memories as a retired signalman based at Coleraine
Spanish built trains...not even green or orange in colour......no hanging pot plants......no paint..it saddens me ...broke my heart last time I was there. Thank you for posting..great pub in Ballymoney station though! Joey's Bar
Great looking trains
Those Class 4000s sound awesome
Good video Kieran, thanks for filming and uploading this video
Have a nice time at Belfast
Amazing video !
Fantastic video as always!
Great video Kieran!!! The reason why they sound like 172s is because they have the same gearbox and engine.
I remember being here with those trains, reminded me of a Juniper somehow
I love the class 3000 and 4000 trains in NI
Fantastic video Kieran! Really enjoyed it, interesting traction. I'm intrigued into why passengers are not allowed on to platforms at certain times. 🙂
Awesome Video Bud :) I was thinking the same thing they do sound like 172's.
Brilliant video kieran but Coleraine has atos Anne which was something I didn't realise and also the track gauge is way different in Northern Ireland and Ireland itself which is 5ft 3in
