great vid my dude! One additional tip that is SUPER helpful when comping vocals: you can just click on a take lane then click T to toggle that take lane on and off. instead of having to go and click the speaker icon. HUGE quality of life improvement the day I learned that hahah

One hack that really works for me is using a blank MIDI track just for labeling Parts - like intro, chorus, etc. You create say an 8 bar blank MIDI clip for the bridge - and then you can easily “grab”
It to export audio, or press Z to have that section fill the width of the screen - and even use the “info text” to write notes on what you want to do later in that section. The locators in Ableton are all tiny and don’t allow these features

Awesome, thanks for sharing your knowledge! Some game-changing Arrangement View shortcuts that I spent ages to find and that I use on a daily basis (some require Computer MIDI Keyboard to be off):
    - ctrl + shift + D for duplicate + push back
    - ctrl + shift + dragging scrolls the part of an audio clip that is in view
    - ctrl + alt + shift + dragging does the above but without snapping to the time grid
    - ctrl + space to instantly play the current selection only
    - r to reverse the current selection, 0 to disable it, ctrl + L to loop it
    - z to zoom in horizontally, z again to also zoom in vertically on the current selection
    - x to undo zoom, x again to zoom all the way out

really helpful video! I would love to hear more stories/takes from and on the music industry. It's really special that somebody like you is making videos like these, when I first started producing in 8th grade, there weren't ANY "industry professionals" on youtube making videos on music production. You're one of the only producer creators I have notifications on for!
edit: I really liked the "mediocre parts make a mediocre whole" segment of the video. I've had this problem for a while and only recently started to realize I need to spend more time on sound selection

Another tip related to keyboard shortcuts and working efficiently. Insert a blank midi clip at the top of your project and make it the exact length of your track. When you're ready to export you just have to highlight the clip and then ctr, shift, R. This way you don't need to use locators and highlight the area every time.

I've only been making beats for a few days but it's already clear that you need to learn the rules, before you learn how to bend them if that makes sense. The formula is simply, as he said, your canvas, you can use it however you like.

Ethan thank you so much for your videos. You truly deserve way more recognition than you get, but I guess that's cause this is a niche topic. I got my DAW and some MIDI hardware a week ago to start producing house and techno, but find myself a little overwhelmed with all the plug-ins and monthly-subscription items you and other producing youtubers pay for. Is all of this necessary?

All these videos are super informative, it’s great. Do you have any resources that may help define some of the terms used so a beginner can pick it up easier? Also what tools do you recommend for refining random samples (from splice or something) in a way that matches your song you have down? I feel like I have great samples to use but they always sound a little out of place

Those were really good tips. If I would have had these 10 years ago! Formula and Reference tracks are my top ones for this video. Hey Ethan, how the heck do I modulate a VSTs knobs during replay?
What I mean is, let's say I have my midi track, recorded some Keys/basic cords.
Now I add granulator 2 to the track and load a sample into granulator. So far so good, the cords play my Granulator sound.
But what if I want the Granulator 2 position to gradually change to the right during the cords? Is there a way to "animate" the settings of a VST?
