I wanted to understand what made Peterson tick and felt I needed a good grounding in Nietzsche's philosophy first. Having watched a few videos about Nietzsche and Peterson, this is the best of both worlds. Your videos ooze depth and clarity and I love the artwork which adds a layer of interest that enhances the presentation. Brilliant.
Did Jung make a lot of connections between myths and the psyche? I only ask, because ive heard that he is Peterson’s main inspiration, but i know little about either. I quite liked the metaphor of the cyclops. Are there any works you know of that focus specifically on tying “drives” to old myths?
Yes Jung connects myths and fairy-tales to the psyche. Jung didn't adopt Nietzsche's drive psychology like Freud did though. Jung was much more focused on the imagistic representation of the drives which is where myths and dreams come into play. I've always thought of Jungian concepts like anima, shadow, animus etc. as complexes of drives. Nietzsche viewed the drives as forming greater structures which could explain things like archetypes. I can't think of any books to recommend that connect myths to drives because I don't think Jung ever followed that thread. He almost never used that word. He uses myths to explain psychic processes but he seems to be using a different framework.
