    Respectfully disagree with the placement of the movie starscream design since the movies try to do away with traditional mass shifting when possible so a lot of the design is condensed and folded away but it still possesses a lot of the traditional elements you would see on a Starscream like the wings on the back, the cockpit on the chest, it swaps the null rays for a Vulcan cannon because that’s what the real world fighter jet has.
    If anything the way he has the digitigrade legs allows him to actually be a similar height to the other characters and in the sequels they really get to play around with him being a scheming henchman of Megatron and a bit of a coward by the way he grovels.
    The F-22 Raptor was also the most superior military jet at the time of production so it fits that Starscream would take on that for his alt mode

    Eh, Bay Starscream is awesome. It's very unique but I think still works as a Starscream. The avian aspects are cool and he does look like a jet come to life, plus the alien nature of the design adds to what the movies were going for.

      Also the fact that he's wide yet flat is a perfect metaphor for his classic personality. Boasts a great game and thinks of himself as powerful, but as soon as he's met with the slightest resistance he crumples like paper in the wind.

      @Talon_Productions Год назад +7

      @@SirGrimLockSmithVIIIthat's a good point too! It also has two key Starscream design traits: the cockpit in the chest, the obvious one, and the wings on the back. Some could argue that isn't much, but it's there regardless.

    Cybertron is absolutely the best. If the leaks are correct then a new figure of that design is coming next year and I cannot wait. I want it in all the colors. Cybertron Sunstorm perhaps?
    I think people are too hard on Bayverse Starscream. He does retain a couple of classic Starscream design elements. He has the jet canopy on his chest. He has the wings on his back (made from his tail this time). He lacks the classic colors (since real F-22s are not painted like that) but I think he has enough elements that you can see the Starscream lineage.
    I always heard that they were trying to avoid having Starscream absolutely tower over the Autobots (as fighter jets tend to be quite large compared to cars). I think this makes the Dorito proportions easier to understand.

  • @medafan53
    @medafan53 Год назад +9

    Honestly my one complaint is that you didn't include BM Jetstorm as a nod to your rewrite. I suppose to be fair it isn't Starscream, and wasn't meant to be by the designers, so it wouldn't entirely be fair to judge it on that axis, but, at least within the TJ Omega G1 Continuity, that is a Starscream

  • @treebotreviews

    Can’t say I agree with movie starscream being flea market. Yeah, I’m a little biased, HOWEVER, it is a flying design considering the fact that his body is shaped like a dorito, that’s already shaped like a flying wing. Also he’s got the thrusters on his back and I dare say he’s more capable looking than the cybertron one.
    Edit: ever notice how IDW starscreams final form looks like RID storm shot?

  • @EternityKingdomsHeadHoncho
    @EternityKingdomsHeadHoncho Год назад +12

    Armada Starscream reigns supreme in my book. So sleek in both modes and a killer color combo. RID 2015 is a massive improvement on his gangly Prime design, and Cybertron did a great job doing an homage to the G1 tetrajet that managed to make him feel powerful even before he goes big.

    Several notes regarding some of the different Starscream designs.
    -Because of his color scheme of black, purple and grey (standing in for silver), Beast Wars II Starscream can best be described as Skywarp wearing an Optimus helmet.
    -Cyberverse Starscream feels like that later IDW design, influenced by the Evergreen design.
    -Movieverse Starscream is perfectly fine. His bulky proportions suit his position as first luitenant of the Decepticons, even if his insectoid head takes a wee bit of getting-used-to.
    -Animated Starscream only had the forearm mounted nullray guns on his toy. In the cartoon they were on his biceps, like G1 Starscream. I just think his colors were poorly done, seeing he was grey with maroon in the show, and weirdly and kinda infamously, blue and bright red on *all* of his toys. Even the Takara releases.
    -Earthspark Starscream has some wierdness, yes. But for me, the main irritations are his blue eyes and the intakes on the sides of his helmet being too high, like elf ears.
    -Surprised you didn't mention that Energon Starscream was based on the G2 Smokescreen figure which was of course redecoed into Beast Wars II Starscream.
    -I couldn't disagree more regarding TFP Starscream if I wanted to. *I despize the skinny design, and the red Decepticon symbol he head on his chest in the show means he was inatvertedly casting a shadow of disgrace on the heroic Shatterd Glass Decepticons. Hell, thanks to his color scheme of various grays with some black and a few hits of red and blue, most prominently the red crest on his forehead, you can say he looks like Machine Wars Starscream if he was starving to death.* So no, his design is no holy grail, it's a scrapyard wreck.

    I wouldn't place Bayverse Starscream into flea market category. The least there're recognizable design aspects to Bayverse Starscream; unlike Pretender Starscream. It should also be remembered that Michael Bay wanted Transformers to remain similar sizes between vehicle and robot forms. The F-22 in itself is quite the big fighter; so that translates into Starscream's earthen form having more bulk than his protoform.
    Much like with his Prime design; I feel his traditional color scheme wouldn't have worked here as well.

    Wasn't there the G2 Smokescreen release? I thought that was the first use of that mold.
    I actually kind of like the Movie Starscream design, just as its own thing. Probably could've benefited from some extra color, but I think it's cool and distinctive in its own right.
    Isn't the Cyberverse Starscream design also a variation on the evergreen design?
    Animated Starscream still has the bicep-mounted null rays, at least outside of the toys.

    Really can’t dispute any of this, other than I’d probably drop Cybertron Starscream down to premium and put Animated in its place. It’s an excellent design, but it’s from a general era of designs where a lot of TFs looked like they were so solely designed to be toys, that as characters, they couldn’t sit in a chair or walk through a door or have any kind of life, and that overly toyeitc style often annoyed me.
    (Plus, I admit, having to wait for the Vector Prime two pack in a different color scheme dulled my enthusiasm, since I wasn’t in a position to import.)

    I would have put Prime in Flea Market. The way he's portrayed in the show is fine and I'm glad Steve Blum got a chance to play a much better designed Starscream later on but I just HATE the Prime design. He's made so freaking thin in that show that I feel like he would snap in half like a twig if I just look at him the wrong way. I never even bothered with his toys because they all look incredibly fragile due to those skinny proportions.
    I don't really like Animated Starscream either but that's just because I'm not a fan of the overly cartoony design aesthetic in that series. And that's another Starscream that I actually like the portrayal of in that series but judging on design alone, I don't like it.
    RID2015 I LOVE that design. All he's missing is the crown and it's a very cleaver way of homaging the King Starscream look. The wings are designed to replicate the look of his cape and that's also why they gave him the big shoulder pads resembling his Coronation appearance. I don't think there's ever been another Starscream that had that look where it was all build into the actual design rather than being parts that added onto a different Screamscream design. I just love that they were able to create a coronation Starscream design that's all integrated in to look like that without any add on parts. That's Holy Grail for me.
