    Hi Dave. I've really enjoyed your series. It's given me a lot of inspiration to do my own build. I think you've probably spent a lot more than you realise. Firstly, I couldn't find any mention of the price you paid for the window units and professional fitting. I think you have also forgot a whole heap of sundry items. Table things, rear view camera, mains electrics?, screws & fixings, tv and bracket.....I reckon you have to be much nearer to £4k.

    • @TransitCustomCamper
      @TransitCustomCamper  4 месяца назад

      Yeah.. I think you probably right 😂 I wanted to cover the core parts of the build and yes some bits not in here for sure.. a lot of things I bought after and also for a bit more content to film too 👍

    Fantastic job for the price Sir. The pop tops are the single biggest cost on these things. I’m getting my roof fitted to the bare van before I start. Beds can be the second biggest cost, be it a R&R up to a Reimo V3000 system. Choosing gas or diesel for heating also can add or save a lot. Yours looks superb so well done.

    • @TransitCustomCamper
      @TransitCustomCamper  2 года назад

      Cheers Mark 👍 yeah that’s true I think a decent pop too would be more than my full conversion 😃 But well worth the ££ if you going to be using it a lot as a camper. True on the r n r beds too.. again so many options out there and costs can vary. Thanks so much for saying the van looks good 👍 We really happy with it.. good luck with your conversion too mate and all the best 👍

    Outstanding build and value. Thank you for laying out the costs so clearly, I imagine it takes quite a while to edit all that together. Have you thought about adding a pop top now you've used it a bit? We've stealth camped in our (unconverted) Tourneo, but also borrowed a Nugget for 4 nights. Having experienced the with and without pop-top solutions then, I feel like I'd really want the head space to stand inside, especially if the weather's not cooperating.

    • @TransitCustomCamper
      @TransitCustomCamper  2 года назад +1

      Heya James! Wow thanks for the kind words mate much appreciated… On the pop top yeah did consider it but we got a good Cubo awning/tent now too so that really does expand the living space out and allow you to stand up 😃 I think if we were using it more frequently then a pop top might be worth it though 👍

    Did you put in a diesel heater in the end? How about aTV or media centre? Was the table included with your furniture MDF package?
    We've found the diesel heater is fantastic and extends your camping season to all year. It wasn't expensive £110 off Amazon, and it works really well. The TV is great too, especially on wet days and dark nights! ATB. Neil

    • @TransitCustomCamper
      @TransitCustomCamper  2 года назад +1

      Hey Neil - no jury is still out on the diesel heater… This is more a day van for us and a daily driver… Only occasional use and will be more fair weather campers I think 🤣The table was included in the MDF kit yeah, although they did forget to send it initially so had to follow up 😄 Yes we got a Cello TV with digital Ariel and also plug in a Amazon fire stick that works well as we have a 5G WiFi dongle and that has been ok connection wise when we have been out. It’s nice to have the TV there like you say… I have got a potable projector and pop up screen too.. so have used that a couple of times for outdoor cinema experience 😃👍

    Excellent job in both the conversion and your channel.
    I am just retired after 44 years as a carpet fitter and floor layer, my van is a 2015 transit custom lwb in Impact Blue,this has just given me the ideal retirement project!
    Can you please tell me what impact this had on your insurance renewal and did the conversion cause any issues with your insurance company regarding modifications. All the best!

    • @TransitCustomCamper
      @TransitCustomCamper  Год назад +1

      Ah great! Yeah be a great project and sure the carpet fitting skills will come in handy! So once it was completed we let the insurance company know it had been converted and they did a new quote for the fact it was converted and also we increased the value of the van also. The premium went up but not by too much to be honest. I think some insurance companies are not as flexible and also some specialist insurers also that deal with conversions etc.. I guess like all insurance companies you never really know until you have to claim I guess 😃

    Great videos, can't find much like this for Transits on RUclips. I'm considering getting one and converting myself, but I'm unsure about the size. As yours is the short wheelbase it must be L1H1 right? Do you regret going for this size and if you were to do it again would you consider L2H2 or larger?
    Thanks 🙂

    • @TransitCustomCamper
      @TransitCustomCamper  2 года назад +1

      Hey 👋- thanks for the comment! I think the size will depend on really how you intended to use the van… Ours had to be multiple purpose… it’s a daily driver and remote work van for my wife, the family bus and also then to use as a camper. We can park
      easy, get into car parks and all that day to day stuff.. The camper side is more occasional use a few times a year when we manage to fit it in around our work schedules and life! So on that basis the low roof and swb is absolutely fine. If it was more camper focus I would say a LWB with pop top or higher roof would be the way to go.. one thing I would say is that getting an awning would be a great move too! We got one recently and when away just so good to have extra living space to spread into and I’d the weather not great makes it easier for getting dressed - standing up etc 🤣 There are a few things I would maybe have done differently but overall over 12 months on… Van has performed perfectly with no issues and perfect balance for us 👍

    • @jameseastwood4984

      We've had both L1 and L2 Tourneos. The L2 won't fit the length of a standard car park bay. Imo the L1 also looks a bit less 'builders van' on your drive way.
