- Day By Day was an early Four Freshmen hit back in '55.
of their many versions this is possibly the best live on stage
Day By Day. Originally done 10 years earlier by the Columbia Frank Sinatra, and other 40's singers.
How can anyone put a thumbs down to these guys !? They are truly amazing.
Four deaf people
4 dead people, have some respect

That's me!
My dad was working at Capitol Records and brought this record home and spun it for the family and just plain WOW!
brian wilson said that the freshmen were his inspiration n i now see how they are amazing bless up to everyone
the bassist is playing trombone here, they can play and sing everything!!
Yes! I was fortunate enough to tour with them for 6 weeks in 1985, and Bob Flanigan was still playing bass and trombone and singing at the highest level.
@@stevekenyonmusic that's amazing
I heard this on the radio in '55 and their sound haunted me. Fabulous Four Freshmen.
These guys have a direct line to the emotions!
This got a lot of airplay from 1955 and beyond. Classic Freshmen hit.
All I can say is, the beginning is funny. After that......amazingggggggg!!!!
I recently discovered them for the first time . . These guys were just amazing. I also discovered Johnny Mercer, Billy Strayhorn, and the [first]Clark Sisters. I love the Clark Sisters too, then in the interview with Bob Flanigan here on YT, we find that, among many groups including the Beach Boys, these 4F also mentored the Clark Sisters. All these musicians came just before I was born so I just missed 'em. They got buried under the avalanche of what came next . .
there is a whole universe of (sometimes underrated or forgotten) vocal jazz (and related) groups, e.g. the Merry Macs, The Satisfiers, The Ray-O-Vacs, The Four Grads, The Blue Stars...and many more...stunning stuff!
@@miropribanic5581 I'll try to check'em out.
I like how the drummer uses the rim of the snare drum as another way to keep a light beat.
That was Ross Barbour on drums. My Dad went to High School with him in Indiana. Both were in choir class together.
How great were these guys??? Great song.
You can tell Brian Wilson was heavily influenced by them
Yep.
That's an understatement.
There'd be NO Brian without The Four Freshmen.
I remember this hit still reverberating as a tot in the early 60s, I was around 3 , vague memories of Beatles, Byrds, Carlos Jobim / Stan Getz , Mamas Papas by 65, loved my AM radio .. So many more.
AMAZING! I did not know that this group existed!
The best group of all time
I have missed out on an awful lot but thank goodness some ody recorded their fabulous performances so I could see what I missed doing homework. They are so special.
We're lucky their performances still exist. They were very popular but I've heard that already by the 80's-90's, their LP's were pretty difficult to come by. These days, even harder.
I'm pretty young, so naturally I got to know The Freshmen through The Beach Boys, but I've got a real soft spot for the Freshmen's vocal blend, basically made unique by Bob Flanigan's high voice. Very special sound indeed.
If someone were to ask exactly what a vocal group is, The Four Freshmen is what they should be shown.
Happy theyve been around almost all of my life. They're amazing. ❤
When this one came out of the radio I knew that these 4 were something unique.
Bob is the real genius in this fine group.
I just LOVE this take of the tune.
I wish I could have seen them back then.
Bob Flanigan's performance in the '57 Ray Anthony show is perfect - it's 9 years later here, where he's about 40, and it's crazy how much of a struggle it is for him to even approach the higher notes here. He talked in an interview a bit before he died about how "carefully" he had to sing tenor, since it wasn't his ideal range to begin with - it's surprising they didn't shift things down a semitone or so with him struggling this hard.
Hopefully it was just a rare off night for him.
There's so much irony in this, especially when you consider there's no Brian Wilson without Bob - and Brain at one point was a PURE falsetto!
this is so beautiful
Now, this is the way you do it.
Beach Boys documentary brought me here.
me 2
Such memories……love you,guys ❤
Saw them iat the Free Trade Hall in Manchester UK - this brings back memories of a great live show
No Four Freshman- perhaps no Beach Boys. Great.
Very true observation. Day By Day was the record that Brian Wilson heard in a record store. It stopped him in his tracks. He was immediately obsessed by these vocals.
Top class musicians, fantastic singers. They've (not only) performed cool, fresh and tuned up, but also created "a style" that many others followed up through the years. Unforgettable band... Forever glory to the Four Freshmen!. (Luis, from Spain)
Brian Wilson said it was the first 4 Freshman record to inspire him.
Sounds even better live
Los mas grandes!!! ❤❤❤

The Four Freshmen invented Salsa music
Just came across this tune while i was playing through one of my fathers tape recorders. But that version was more like faster a big band swing version and i can not find it ANYWHERE! Is there anyone that might know anything about that? I would love to find out more about it!
1:55
Man you can hear Brian wilson in there
I'm only hearing Bob Flanigan over the top
#JeffPiegari here's this song
it bad to have ear wax?
“Having ear wax does not mean that the ears are 'dirty,' it is a normal part of how the ear canals function,” said Brant. While earwax may seem gross, a certain amount is helpful and can protect and prevent dust or other harmful objects from getting into the ear.
