Now you just have to do those other songs from this consert that got suggested to you. And If one of those songs isnt ”Hel” then i will be extremely dissapointed. I love this band and this performance, so glad that you reacted to Skálmöld. Have a good day!
Baldur was a farmer who's family was murdered, the whole album Baldur is really about his vengance that in the end leads to his demise. The song Kvaðning (The calling) is about his war against his adversaries, Baldur is blinded by rage and bloodlust commanding his army, mostly men assembled by his blood brothers that are bound to stand by him by sworn oath.
The album tracks his venture from his tragedy to his demise, for some reason I like the last song the best called Dauði (Death) which is about his death, I even made a video with english subtitles if you are interested. (Skálmöld - Dauði with lyrics in english)
bit hehind the times but your entire intro (including your pronounciation) has been one of the best intros into this or any of Skálmöld's song I've seen on RUclips
You are one of the most intellectual/knowledgeable people I have ever seen react to music on youtube. I love your videos, and you've gotten another subscriber for what that's worth to ya. Keep it up!
@@MetalHeadReacts No, thank you! I hadn't ever read the lyrics in English, and now that I heard you reading them and have read them myself, I have at least an idea of what the song is about, making it that much more enjoyable!
Really enjoyed you reaction and input. Love how much of the story you gleamed out of those translations. It can be hard to translate as the lyrics are written with rather old Icelandic and google already has a hard time translating every day Icelandic. It also wont help that many of the words will have wholly different meanings depending of the context, even if they are written the same. The album this song is from is a concept album, as are all of Skálmöld's albums. Named Baldur, it tell the story of the titular landowner who's farm and family are raided and burned to the ground. All while he helplessly watches from his boat trying to get home to defend his family but is too late. He then goes on a suicidal trek of revenge where he ultimately dies of his wounds after killing his enemy. For his valor and dying in battle he is then chosen by the Valkyrjur to become an Einherji in Valhalla and feast with the gods. As far as Icelandic sagas go, this would be considered a happy Hollywood ending.
I like to think instead of a farm hand being called up to war, I feel like it is describing nordic farmer going off for the yearly raids or something of the sorts.
I’m a new subscriber, and I have to say that I am thoroughly enjoying the content. I love your non-biased standpoints and looking at the talent behind the music and not your personal preference. Keep up the good work, you make some excellent and honest content.
Have you done a video yet that highlights some of your favorite artists, bands, videos? I'm always looking for new things to listen to and compilations I always find great as I can get a sample of a wide variety of performances and add artists to my list.
@@MetalHeadReacts That would be wonderful. There's so much good rock and metal around the world which we don't get to experience if we don't seek it out. Same goes for all the other genres of music. A true music randomizer app would be a dream.
I'm after long dreams, Lying stiff, mind dull. I feel a strong simmering hatred, Squeezes revenge if the former swears. The heathen live in danger of the blind, When I look at the black peaks, Hell lives there in many pictures: Darkness, cold, ice and snow. The soul of hell fell from heaven, I had an estate and men. The hatred entered the mind, Still keeps me alive. Let us throw away your cowardice, I find you at sea and on land. I'm coming to you ancient devil, Our meetings are approaching soon. Morning sun in the middle of the heath, The memories apply. The anger is great, The wounds tear the hatred then. Once upon a time there was a river Who cared for my children, But now I have work to do: Weigh bleed, plug and bleed. Let's now hold a meeting of cowardice, This journey will count our days. Wash men during a time of war And Valhöll is waiting for us. Let's now hold a meeting of cowardice, This journey is the calling of spring and history. Wash men during a time of war And Valhöll awaits us all then.

DUDE, you pronounced Sinfóníuhljómsveit Íslands almost spot on. God damn, I'm impressed!
Right!
I would love to get your reaction to more songs from this concert!

Instrumentally reminds me unsurprisingly of Night wish, although I concede the vocals are somewhat different😁😁
Kvaðning, in this case, would translate to "a call to arms" or drafting or get drafted into the army

I have not, but I shall look into doing that.

Oddly enough, the ALESTORM cover of this song has the best English translation.
Fuckin brilliant.
