Many thanks and a great track to listen to throughout the presentation. Lovely slide work. Yep, hard panning does put you in no man's land and I was thinking about this yesterday considering only a 50% maximum pan position. I can go L or R 100 in my DAW. Interesting that Logic is set to L/R 90 max. Using Klanghelm's VU meter on the master buss. I will check out the OdB/-7dB method you suggest. Will also check the pan law adjustment in my DAW if it has that feature. Subscribed! Looking fwd to seeing more of your content. Thumbs up!

Very awesome video. Panning is an art that is being lost in modern music, but the tracks you have playing sound masterful at the technique!

what does it mean if your panning control button is just panning on its own back n forth in only one spot of the project? I can't seem to fix it.

I’m using Studio One 6.5 Professional and I’m not sure how to set it up so I get a great pan as you showed above Sir????

Are most synth plugins when using midi, actually mono because the same information is processed through both L and R speaks? Would you recommend not using MIDI and then Freezing synths and later on tweaking them. I remember I froze a synth and the Waveforms looked the same on both L and R so I figured it technically isn’t stereo then.

Depends on the synth. A lot of synth vsts produce very wide stereo output. If it’s mono, it’ll sound dead center, even if there’s a left and right waveform.

Hello. Im having a little trouble with my guitar recording. It sounds fine without logic. It sounds fine when I’m panning center. But when I pan to either sides in logic the signal starts to completely overdrive and sounds broken/clipping. Do you know what I’m doing wrong?

If I'm understanding correctly, your version of Logic may be using a compensated pan law. From the website:
-3 dB Compensated: A full scale signal (0 dBfs) has a level of 0 dB when panned to the center position (or +3 dB when panned to the extreme left or right positions).
      support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/logicpro/lgcp4f230784/mac
I believe this describes your experience where the panned signal becomes louder than it was in the center. It is my understanding that this is logic compensating for the audio playing from only one speaker (hard panned) instead of both (center).
If this is causing issues you could switch your pan law to -3dB
File > Project Setting > Audio (pan law)
This way the full scale signal plays back when hard panned, while signals in the center are attenuated by 3dB to correct for the volume increase of being played thru both speakers.
Hope this helps, thanks for the comment! let me know would you like to see more of on the channel. It's my goal to reach out to more subscribers and create videos that help you make progress and that you're excited about! - Robert

How to check mono mix without using S1 imager ?

    • @martypnc2193
      @martypnc2193 3 года назад

In logic, add the gain plug in and switch to mono. You can achieve the same thing in Ableton using the utility plug in, so other draws probably have their own version of this

    Please Help Me With This:
This may seem like a strange question but I have someone that wants me to recreate some old software for him and he claims that they panned these square waves from the left earphone to the right using phase shifting....is that possible? If so how does that work? I used a regular audio component to pan the sound from one ear to the other but according to him it doesn't give the same result...to me it sounds exactly the same....
