The UTA isn’t Davanloo’s discovery. Jung and Rogers (to name just two) already worked with the idea of an innate healing force.

Did they refer to this as an unconscious aspect of the alliance? Fascinating.

Hi Patricia! when you say to the woman at the end of this video who said she did not want to go to the kitchen, grab a knife and stab him, you say "wow, that was awfully specific, huh?" with a bit of humour. is that how you say it to the patient or is the humour just here in the video? In other words would it be ok to bring some humour into the session in a scenario like this with the patient?? I think it makes it lighter and warmer for the patient to hear and open up to it, but i wonder if you meant to...

Humor can soften the blow and make the comment easier to take in. The best therapists are authentic. You can't do something as technique alone, unless delivered in a caring and engaged manner.

I really appreciate this dive into the UTA. I have been pondering on the source of this UTA for many months now, and see it almost like a magic thread that pulls at this innate desire or capacity for momentum towards healing and wholeness. I love the concept of the 'emotional immune system', this captures that idea so well. It's interesting to observe how I grapple with this topic, because I have some ineffable, innate understanding of what the UTA might be - but trying to ground that in language escapes me. There is something quite magical about it, or perhaps just pre-verbal. This is a wonderful video, thank you.

Love this piece, so many important ideas articulated clearly and with examples. It seems to me that the UTA is undervalued in the field as a whole, and it would behoove us to explicitly recognize this mechanism more regardless of the therapeutic model used. Thanks for this series.
