Shubham Mishra His videos across all his channels are great but I think this is definitely the one that after a long day, you come home, relax and whip out Strictly Dumpling and it's bound to cheer you up. 😄😋🍽 (whilst making you hungry af).
That 8 course tasting menu would be $500US. It's amazing how much more food and better quality food you can get outside the US for less than half the price.
What? Cutlass is like $3.99 a pound in the states and I could buy that one at the market for like $10. Then there were 4 slices of pork belly? It's supposed to serve 4 people; does every person get 1 bite?? The sashimi was legit but far too small; I price it at $45 max, under $30 at a non-fancy sushi restaurant (raw material price that restaurant buys for is closer to $15). Then what, fried mushroom shreds? LOL Abalone is $5-7 each live; if he used 4, that's $20-28. I don't like to pay more than a 2X mark-up on my restaurant dish from the fresh ingredient cost cus I like to eat fresh, high quality foods cooked simply to bring out the natural flavor and I just don't see this adding to $220 ($110 ingredient cost) or feeding 4 people in any way. Well... maybe if it was four 95 pound ladies...
The fish alone was $134 if you weren't listening. US distributors import that fish at $0.25 a pound. At wholesale price, he would have 536 pounds of fish. The restaurant would be buying it for $2-$3 a pound. $134 would buy at least 40 pounds of fish. The largest ever caught was 11 pounds, so lets say this is near record size (which it isn't) we can average that it would cost about $33 for the fish. All along the path I have given the restaurant the most generous terms possible, and yet they have still marked it up at least $100 to just cut it several times, cook it on a grill, and salt it. Something any home cook could do with no experience. Living where the fish are native, they do not have to pay as large a cost of shipping, they are buying the fish cheaper as a result, that fish weighed less than I used for calculations, and yet they marked up the price that much for effortless cooking. That fish was a complete rip off and you shouldn't be in charge of your money if you can't find better deals for higher quality food in the US. Maybe fish costs more and is lower quality if you live in the midwest, but any coastal region should have cheap fresh fish readily available.
It's the food memories from our childhood that can effect how we eat today. Mike's grandma obviously had a big influence on his obsession with food. He compares what he eats now with his grandma's dishes. She set the gold standard.
First I'd like to thank you for vlog diversities, they give viewers like me the opportunity to see more than kimbop and teokboki scenes that most foreign vloggers tend to show, I'm sure the cost of foods have much to do but you seem more interested in truly discovering new things and places. Also, one BIG PLUS, thanks for filming the Chef cooking! I love beltfish (that's what my local Chinese market calls it.)
I just wanna see the chef cook. I don't need to know exactly what ingredients he uses because that's his secret, but just seeing him cook would make my day. Eating the food will always be #1, but sometimes watching the food get prepared by the chef is almost just as good.
I think bloggers are poetic, linguistic, natural actors, best in declamations, artistic, aside from being great influencer!!! I am now planning my next vacay to korea!!!!
SeriousFox you must be a wealthy Korean. My friends in Korea won't really spend that much money for a meal even for Americans, unless special occasion.
I live in Korea and 50 bucks for a meal is pricey as it is anywhere else but, its not like omg cant eat that ever level of expensiveness. I'm speaking for everyday regular people. Food isn't cheap here in seoul.
Gene Lee Of course you can. No one is saying you can never do it. The main point is you are not going to spend $50 for a meal ten times in 1 month. The average salary in South Korea is around 2000USD/Mo.
OMG I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE THINKING THIS?! :'D It's true... and he also works out and is muscly... Omg, maybe he IS Goku! I mean, reincarnated into our universe ofc. :P
Definitely enjoyed this video, I have to give it up to you I love your narration and word choice... I even enjoy when you make those satisfying sound effects. This restaurant will definitely now make my bucket list. Thanks for the video
Mike, i am currently eating my dinner while watching this video. I forgot all about my dinner and was mesmerized by this dinner you had. Thanks for the great video, oh and the cold dinner 😁
Thank you for your great videos! It's a joy to watch someone be so enthusiastic about food without being too serious. I already planned to visit Korea at some point in the future but every time I watch one of your videos I want to book a flight _right now_. :)
I think Mike's tour from 23andme is better than Mark's. First, I want to see Mongolian dishes. Second, the last 3 videos of Mark's are just about Sausages, Schnitzel, and Beer.
Max Haibara no.........mark tries other culture foods (not just Asian) so marks channel is more popular !all these dishes here can be found in Japan and China so it's just more of the same but with a small twist!
I'm so glad you're enjoying yourself! I actually hate shellfish (oysters, clams, etc) and the only time I enjoyed it was when I had fresh abalone congee in Jejudo. I also have so many childhood memories of eating that particular fish and I was so happy to see we share that lol. Cheers!
Lmao 😂Mikey, you made me snort laugh when you included beef as a favorite color. Another great video. I’m just rewatching a bunch of your older ones because....Covid.
I was in Seoul in 99 with my boss and several other employees, our host took us to a very fancy expensive restaurant and I was very impressed with the sea food. If I ever get back over there I plan to eat at there. Thanks Mikey.
I have never tried any of those dishes before, but WOW! Those are beautiful. And if your level of enjoyment is a deliciousness indicator, we have been missing great things! Now it is on our list of new things to experience. Thanks!
I just had this fish for dinner today! This was my favorite fish back in the Philippines when I was younger and now that I live in Australia I've been missing it a lot. And today, I finally got to taste it again. And don't know why, unexpectedly Mike's vid came up on my recos. 😆
Watching Mike eat so much spicy food is amazing to me. When I was younger, I couldn't handle eating spicy foods at all. It wasn't until my family kept taking me to eat Korean food I could handle mild spiciness. Haha
Idont usually watch or subscribe any channels. But yours is different! It makes me excited whenever you uploaded a new video. Wish you can visit philippines!
Thomast Tham there is more to eat than pork and non "halal" food in the world. Plenty and tasty as well. He travels for food and not for the people. I've been to Oman and I can tell you that it's definitely food heaven!!
Would you be at all jealous if I told you I had a local beef T-Bone steak on the bbq with garden fresh carrots, peas, beans, onion and kale? Oh and a raspberry cupcake with raspberries from our garden with a home made chocolate buttercream? :P I hope to try that kind of stuff you have one day though
I really miss the food in South Korea... Was a Korean Police Liaison Officer outside Osan Air Base, ROK in the early 90s... Loved the food there so much, if I was single, I'd move back just for the food.
Who else's fav color is also beef???
Strictly Dumpling Mike, I also love the colours pork and chicken! 🤣🤣🤣
Strictly Dumpling 👍🍖👍
Strictly Dumpling how do I even finish all that by Urself....
Strictly Dumpling beef is the best color I've ever tasted.

wow Mike this one is of your best food trips! I just loved it. I think Korea is a food paradise though. Thank you for this vid Mike.
The chef though 😍😍
That 8 course tasting menu would be $500US. It's amazing how much more food and better quality food you can get outside the US for less than half the price.
oohlala444 US is way too expensive as far as quality food goes, I live here in India and eat outside everyday. Quality food for really low prices

Yeah, I'd take the bowl of sashimi over flowers any time.
I think bloggers are poetic, linguistic, natural actors, best in declamations, artistic, aside from being great influencer!!! I am now planning my next vacay to korea!!!!
I never knew beef was a color.....until today!
the more we know...
In my hometown somewhere in Indonesia.. This fish is kinda cheap...
I love it, my mother served this fish by fried it... My childhood memories...
Pretty good deal for $ 50 per person for 4 people since tax is included and they do not tip in Korea.
That is very expensive to Korean people their average salary is much lower than US.
I can say as a Korean, $50 meal is lil bit on the expensive side, but not VERY expensive.
SeriousFox you must be a wealthy Korean. My friends in Korea won't really spend that much money for a meal even for Americans, unless special occasion.

$134 doesn't look expensive when you get all that good stuff
Thiago Leo Kim Yeah its a reasonable price
He said the fish alone costs $134.

awww sorry bout the cold dinner :-)
Where is the hot oil squad at?
one thing that amazes me is--you NEVER see a can opener as everything is fresh and natural. No wonder everyone looks so fit and healthy. Great video!
The chef is waaay hotter than Brad Pitt.
True true👍👍
Is that a real last name?
Gertrude Nope, it was switched around in the video. The last name in the subtitle is his first name and vice versa.
Tracie Chakraborty •u•r•2•
Thank you for your great videos! It's a joy to watch someone be so enthusiastic about food without being too serious. I already planned to visit Korea at some point in the future but every time I watch one of your videos I want to book a flight _right now_. :)
Beef is a color now. Goat
The way you described every part of this meal makes my mouth water I really want this!
I think Mike's tour from 23andme is better than Mark's. First, I want to see Mongolian dishes. Second, the last 3 videos of Mark's are just about Sausages, Schnitzel, and Beer.
Max Haibara i love them both
Max Haibara yeah Mark should have gone to his Chinese side instead of Germany
Max Haibara no.........mark tries other culture foods (not just Asian) so marks channel is more popular !all these dishes here can be found in Japan and China so it's just more of the same but with a small twist!
Fat Panda German cuisine is alot more complex believe me I live here ;)
there's literally nothing in Mongolia...basically horses and hills. Germany is a lot cooler by a mile
I'm so glad you're enjoying yourself! I actually hate shellfish (oysters, clams, etc) and the only time I enjoyed it was when I had fresh abalone congee in Jejudo. I also have so many childhood memories of eating that particular fish and I was so happy to see we share that lol. Cheers!
Mike i love food videos. Make more videos.

Watching Mike eat so much spicy food is amazing to me. When I was younger, I couldn't handle eating spicy foods at all. It wasn't until my family kept taking me to eat Korean food I could handle mild spiciness. Haha
Hey Mikey haha, when are you going to North Korea to try their food
That is a long piece of fish! The rice with the stew......mouthwatering!!!!!! I absolutely love seafood!
Did you eat all of that?
The way you cut into that cutlass is exactly how waitstaff at Chinese banquets cut into the steamed fish table side before serving.
Oh the memories...
pls do more food challenges
Mike, this was your best episode yet, you were very descriptive.
Did he eat everything?
bertocaster I am pretty sure he shared :-)
bertocaster I wonder that too. It would be a sin not to
Thomast Tham It is because at 8:52-8:53, you can see someone taking some fish but it might be the cook, not guests :-)
bertocaster there are two other people sitting at the table, and i did see someone chopsticks
Tashianna Bostick Yes I was thinking the same as well 😀
Idont usually watch or subscribe any channels.
