Spray the surface with wax or furniture polish and add double sided tape to the central spindle to automatically catch the cut material which winds around the center... You'll need to reduce eqs also :-)
@@dj_mista_b hey whats I have some good news I found so many technics on how to make the sound better. Its not the machine its all about what kind of blanks that you use to get a clean cut. Check out my Facebook link here it is @ facebook.com/513373495485016/videos/5359572544083124/?sfnsn=mo
I'm looking forward to getting this to come in. The stuff I'm planning to put on there is all lo-fi rock stuff anyways. I'm worried about messing up those blank records though. Good review! The fun had in this video is infectious.
Make sure you catch the vinyl thread while converting your signal to the device. I think it was intended for lofi so this may suit you. Please check your EQs before you record. Good luck and have fun.
Awesome! Just got one today, any chance you could elaborate on how tracks should be EQ'd going onto the wax? Does the bass need to be cranked higher? etc. My friend also has a wild idea of getting some old xray sheets and trying to cut onto those (they did it in soviet russia, known as 'bone records'), if you think the lathe needle could handle it.
You basicly didn't do the process correctly. You need to use audacity for your master playout source to feed into the Gekken. Use the free RIAA Curve filter for disc mastering. It may sound crappy during disc cutting, but upon playback on a properly setup turn table, the system will put back what was missing to your ears during recording. Also, spray some turtle wax on the surface of the blank to reduce the surface friction. Also, put a heat lamp onto the disc blank for a few minutes to soften the blank's cutting surface to further reduce cutting friction. (No more than 100 degrees Farenheight on blank surface). Now roll off the master playout level by about 2.5 dB down from Zero, or even 3 dB. During the cut, please use a soft brush to brush away the cuttings by brushing to the center of the blank. Now listen back the resulting cut record.
It's ok. You'll need to do some good pre-eqing to get decent levels. It does not pick-up low end well. Also, try to use it with wall power and not a portable battery.
Yeah, it only fits 5'. Playback can be reasonable depending on your own set-up and EQ skills. I know folks are working on making it sounds better so it may evolve as we go...

It always astounds me that you can make something this good so cheaply but you need to spend thousands to make it a bit better,, I suppose it’s like a paper plane and a Boeing passenger plane,,I don’t know? Maybe someone can explain.
That is a good comparison. I have a hard time going into this thinking I can create a super mastered record. Maybe something reasonable but it feels like its more for personal use. Regardless, I still love the toy!
I've put together plenty of ideas and best practices I and some other Gakken users have learned over the last few months. If you're interested, check the video of "Big Fat Woodpecker".

There are several RUclipsrs who found tricks to improve the sound quality.
Yeah, I'm sure there are more techniques and work arounds.
Yes indeed there's more to come

Mold CDs and DVDs work , go and buy some washers to use as adapter. Poly carbonate advertising plastic is the best.

this seams to be a fun little activity.
Wait does it even cut in stereo? That’s probably why they sent that cable. Sorry if I misunderstood that part.
Can you scratch with the records this machine cuts?
And if so, I assume the quality is lo-fi, but is it "routine-worthy"?
Nice vid! You sold it for me! Wana get one now
Nice, get one! It's a fun toy! Glad I was able to make that track work for it!
Mistabsf one question: can you put a mic in the audio in jack?

I disagree. There are multiple ways to record depending on what you are working with (which could be multiple audio set-ups) so to each their own.
i've been thinking about buying this but i wish i can have more than 10 discs. do they actually sell clear versions of those vinyls?
hey bro, it'll sound better if you use an riaa (recording) eq, remember your phono preamps have it (reversed)
I hear you. I was going for stereo even though this was meant for mono but I should try both ways. Right on.
I just bought one
Did you get it yet? How do you like it?

Yeah, I can literally hear that haha. What type of stuff are you trying to record?
Is the result of the recording sound mono or stereo?
I did stereo with my own cables buy the box comes with a mono cable.
