A very brilliant example of a doctor who has both empathy and the moxie to try and do what is best for his patients and is serious with his profession. I hope most doctors of today are imbued with a healing intent in mind; I've witnessed a doctor who was so unbelievably brash in ordering an unwitting toddler to obey her commands during a routine eye check up. She wanted everything done in 5 minutes, when it's common sense that every child would vary in their response times depending on the circumstances present in that situation, the environment, disposition and present condition of the child and most of all, the doctor's radiating attitude (is she in to the job or just focused on finishing her shift?). Anyway, that was a rare encounter and hoping could get even rarer with many good doctors out there getting known and joining worldwide conversations for their breakthrough research and practice and setting the best example and inspiration to everyone.

Steven Pinker presents a more critical understanding of plasticity in his book "the blank slate" (especially from page 83 to 102), with scientific evidence to back it up ofcourse. But it could be because the book is from 2003.
