oh my god. i've been wanting to buy these floor pillows from urban outfitters and they still are up to this day, ridiculously expensive. who would've thought it was that easy to make!? UMMMMMM THANKS A MILLION!
Have you guys thought of doing a video on how to use a sewing machine for beginners? I've used one a few times in my life, but frankly, I'm scared of messing everything up, so I'd love a video with tips for using a sewing machine!
I have been looking into buying a couple $100 floor pillows EXACTLY like this one. So thank you for this tutorial! Found my Thanksgiving weekend project :)
I've been sewing for years, have a business where I sell handmade sewn products, and I was still too intimidated to make a floor pillow until this video. THANK YOU from a fellow Canadian 🇨🇦
Alya Khairani Rhadiyya I have seen it 😊 the mirror I have is huge though is 6' x 4' I plan to hang it above my couch once finished. With like a wide wooden frame or frame it some other way. Thank you though.
I also think filming on set feels less personal, but the DIY was awesome. Most DIY's just look good, this one actually makes me wanna do it. Maybe the pink one as a bed for my cat. 🤔
Watching this 4 years later, because TSG will always be where I go when I need help building something. Off to make outdoor cushions for my pallet couch!
You're so talented at diys, you've literally just saved my life with this video because I'm making a floor cushion for my GCSE textiles and I was really looking for pattern ideas and dimensions. God bless you ❤️❤️❤️
I've been sewing for years but I always come across new sewing project ideas, I definitely need to try these! Thanks for the easy to follow visuals too!
I love how original your DIYs are! I absolutely loved the end look of the floor pillow with the detailing around the edge. I'm so excited to see what you come up with for the holiday period
This was so great! Such an original diy :) recently i commented that I thought you guys were rushing it all a bit and speaking fast, this time I could follow all the steps and I'm so happy about the more peaceful atmosphere you conveyed :) thanks!
SisterCookie if they were to do this DIY I'm sure they would let us know how we can change it to suit not only out significant others, but our friends or family as well. also, if you were actually a fan of TheSorryGirls this type of video wouldn't be considered a "useless video" to you anyways.
Thank God you guys.. I honestly wanted to make that tufted pillow thing from urban outfitters so bad, and I was thinking I could try and do it myself, I'm really glad to find out you guys did, saves me a lot of time!
Thanks for making this video I've been wanting to see how to make floor pillows because they are so fun and I'm a gypsy style girl so these will be perfect for my life. And they can be so pricey so being able to make them custom and save money is bonus points for life.
I've seen a pouf tutorial floating around the blogosphere before and I've been wanting to make it for a long time. Love your floor pillow as well - that fabric you chose is spot on. Awesome! 👏🏻
I'm so excited! I wanted an excuse to make these the minute I saw this video the first time but I definitely don't have the space in my home right now. But now my sister is moving to a new apartment and she asked if I could make her a floor pillow for her new living room. I can't wait to do this now!!
I LOVE THESE.. Here in the UK we have what we call Duvets which are bed sized stuffed blankets. I've decided as it would be more cost effective to use a king or double bed sized one as my source of stuffing as 1 king size duvet costs around £17 and would firmly stuff atleast 2 36"- 40" floor pillows or about 3 poufes. For the fabrics I reperposed old jeans .
i just saw something similar to the floor pillows on urban outfitters for $250 or something and i fell in love!! knew i could try my hand at making them so let's give this a shot!!!!
Okay, I know you guys say that you're not professionals but this is better than a lot of professionals can make. You guys are so talented, and dont let anyone tell you otherwise(anyone who does is probably insecure bc they can't do/won't try the awesome things you can do!) you girls inspire me very much, and so many others. I only just recently subscribed and I've already made things you've DIY'ed. Party on girls, keep it up!
Oh, oh oh!! I've been wanting to make a version of this for a foot pillow under my desk!!! So glad you guys did this. I'm going to make my own size for a foot stool pouf!! Thanks xoxoxox
I think it would change a bit. They've probably done some math and measurements to make sure the top ends up a circle. I presume they took 360 degrees (the degrees in a circle) and divided by 10 to get 36 degrees for each piece. It's been a long time since I've done math and geometry was never my strongest subject, so I'm not sure if that changes anything you need to do to figure out the measurements. My instinct at first was that you can lengthen and widen the pattern piece in the "rectangle" section of the piece as much as you want, but to still use the patter piece as a guide to what you need to taper the edges too... but now I'm not sure. Maybe someone else can jump in with some actual math knowledge.
Karis Cains hmm, I think you're right. after you posted that I thought if they expanded it, it might end up as a wonky shape, but maybe they could create a circle by doing the rectangle things by x2 because that would create a more bigger one, and a circle? correct me if I'm wrong xD
I'm not sure about that... just cause I haven't thought about it very hard. But I did walk away and continue thinking about this and I think I have an answer. So, if you want the poof to be taller or shorter it's not too complicated. Add or subtract the length from the middle of the pattern piece. So if you were adding length I would cut the piece in half, and then put a piece of paper behind it and tape the pattern pieces to it. If I wanted it to be 3 inches taller then I would just tape the pattern pieces 3 inches apart from each other. Use a ruler to continue the straight line from pattern piece to pattern piece, and then cut away the extra width of the scrap paper. Same if you want to shorten it, just take the length from the middle. If you wanted to make the poof wider- make it so there's more butt space at the top, it will take a little more work. I would probably decide how big I wanted the top to be. I would draw a circle with that diameter. Then you could pull out your protractor and measure the angles, but I might be tempted to just free hand it, like cutting a pie. First cut in half and so on. You can make it however many pieces you want. It doesn't have to be ten. I do think that stylistically the 10 pieces creates interesting lines, but it could work with as few as 3. Once you have that done just cut out one piece of your pie (curved edge and all). Then you can decide how tall you want your poof to be. Let's say I wanted to make a 2ft tall poof, I would need a line coming done from the outer edge of my pie piece 2 ft on each side. You're going to need the pie piece on the other side too though. So, in order to make sure it's symmetrical I might first just draw half of it and then fold it over and copy to make sure my lines really are the same. Like draw a foot down (make a line across if helpful, this is the middle line of your piece), cut that all out, then trace it twice with your middle lines butt up against each other so you have one long piece with the exact same point on both ends. The only other thing you need to think about is seam allowance. Some of this fabric is going to disappear to the inside when you sew it up. I would recommend adding a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Basically just means add a line around your your new pattern piece following all the angles, but do it a half inch away all the way around. And there you go. Different sized poof. I know I wrote a lot of words, but I really don't think it is that complicated. Just wanted to be clear for people who may not have much experience with sewing. It's totally doable.
Karis Cains thank you for writing such detailed instructions. hopefully as I go though it again, I can figure it out. I will give u a shout if I find myself up against challenges
I'm so glad I watched this. It's November 6. Approximately, June 1 I began to recover my porch furniture cushions. They are box pillows and all I needed to do was what you did without even making the tuft. I got two done so far. How am I doing? I totally made it harder than it needed to be. You've inspired me, I'll be done by June 1, 2018. I'll even send a pic!
You are so awesome for this! I've been toying with the idea of purchasing four of these types of floor pillows from UO for when fam comes to visit but the reviews were horrible. Now, I'm dead set on making them myself. Thank you soooo much! 😚
This is such a great DIY. I definitely want to try. How would you clean these (specifically the floor pillow)? Can you put the whole thing in the washing machine?
I love your outfit, Becky! This video was so convenient cause I recently bought a floor pouf from Target and it's totally flat now. I'm trying to restuff it, but these might be a better alternative. Super cute! Your DIY home decor vids are awesome. Thanks girls! :)
Could you let us know how much the materials cost and how much time it took yo uguys to make? These factors are important to consider for some of us when deciding on a DIY project :)
Thank you♡ my daughter and I loved the Urbandale outfitter ones and was like these are cute but can we make them? I need several to cover small flooring for her top side of her playhouse ♡ this is perfect thank you♡
Aha! I have just discovered "Reema Floor Pillows" so the fact that I can DIY them now is AMAZING! I'll just have to figure out how to do the back triangle piece.
