gone with the wind could never have attained its well deserved greatness without Vivien Leigh.
I don't know that 'Gone With The Wind' would have become the much beloved classic that it is today, had a different actress been chosen to play Scarlett O'Hara. Vivien completely nailed that character and just personified it! I wonder how many folks that's seen that iconic movie has found themselves quoting Scarlett..."I'll think about it tomorrow!"😉

@@andrewpalframan4666 her secretary Rosemary Geddes also said that VL was not getting the treatment she needed at the end from her doctor, even if it was at 'home.' Geddes told the doctor that her cough wasn't getting better. And mentioned that the doctor blew her off about it.

There is some wonderful slides in there .Vivien was always an actress of extraordinary talent, no other movie starlet could match .because she was a stage actress through and through.
One of Vivien's amazing gifts ,was a rubberlike face she was an actress that had expression, she was animated and the most unserpassable acting skill was her gift to act through her eyes only one other actors. that had this gift was Katherine Hepburn and Margaret Leighton,the late Billie Whitelaw and Dame Maggie Smith. In my opinion, not only Vivien. in addition. to Vivien the actress named previously were all echelons above Elizabeth Taylor. I lose track of the number of times I have watched, Liz 's films only to be angered by her expressionless face, albeit a highly made up one,

Vivien Leigh is one of the most beautiful and talented actresses of all time. Her portrayal of Blanche DuBois in STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE is considered the finest performance ever given by an actress. It is still shown in acting classes. Her portrayal of Scarlett O'Hara is also a great classic, even more amazing since she was British and had never set foot in the South!Alas, she suffered serious mental and physical health problems, which made her later years a nightmare, and she finally died alone of tuberculosis. Her own life was as tragic as the characters she portrayed.

Her life was tragic in ways. Miss Leigh had the highest of the highs and the lowest of the lows. Special, special actress. It is a shame that she was a generation to early from having access to lithium, which may have helped her mental issues tremendously. She accomplished so much, although her life was shortened because of her health problems.
Let me correct you on one thing. She had Jack Merivale in her life in her final years. No, she was not alone. In some ways Jack Merivale was better for her. He was much more attentive to her than Olivier was. She needed that. She herself said it was a much more tranquil, peaceful life. Hey, that doesn't sound so bad, does it?

i don't think she aged well either. i think she looked terrible in "ship of fools," although the way they did her makeup may have been partly to blame. when she was young, though, i think she was the loveliest, most enchantingly beautiful actress of all time.
She aged fast but she never lost her beauty, her features were still the same, if u compare the 2 final pictures, even her eyebrows look just the same.... in comparison to other actresses, who ended up looking completely different when they aged that you could not recognize them, as Hedy Lamarr and Brigitte Bardot.
