In my honest opinion I so much prefer him singing rock/pop songs. Like some old songs I just found out quiet recently from him like Babylon, Streets of Love, Wasting all my Time, Everybody's Beautiful, Carry my Soul, Burning Fire, Troubles, What's the Matter, Blood. That type of register feets him best. I do not dislike this kind of folk thing in any means but to me his voice was/is capable of so much more. When you hear folk music, most of the times the attention is mainly directed to the instrumental and dance element/side of it, not to the lead singer's voice. And in this particular case, to me, Jimmy's voice is so much beyond this jump-jump-clap-clap thing. For what I understood, this type of songs he sings were like folk songs that he used to sing while young or in his childhood with his family but sometimes you just need to be where you good at, and to me this wouldnt be the way to get a new public rather than those old Kelly girl fans that are now in his 30s. It's like puting a Bono from U2 with an acordion singing folk songs on huge stage, it just doesnt seems convincing.
His new song 'Superstar' is just kind a remake of 'Pretty Women' but who cares? He sounds absolutely awesome in there and it doesnt sound like folk at all.It just sounds like a pretty good old Rock 'n' Roll 50s record to me. More and more artists are getin these days back to those old sounds from late decades. Lana del Rey, Florence and the Machines, etc Why not Jimmy for instances? Don't care, as long he delivers everytime he sings and performs its ok with me. But just wish he had a broader and diverse audience, cause it just seems to me this kind of public are just old fans who aswell and probably go to other Kelly member's gigs whos main wish and purpose is to see a Kelly member in person or performing live, not truly comin to the solo and individual true artist's value that Jimmy Kelly is at his own. But anyway, hope next year he can come with a wider audience rather than old Kelly fans, he surely deserves it for his raw natural talent alone. Best greetings to all his band members aswell. Those trumpets guys are quiet something.
Just one more thing, please try always promote him in english. Though he lives in Germany I think, hes not a german artist, god f~n knows what or from where he is anyway (spanish, irish, german), but I think artists should always be promoted in english language to get the message to much people as possible, independently their nationality. That all description in german is literaly chinese to non german speakers. Best Regards and wishes to all his family backgrounds, wherever they may be. Spreading smiles since 1975s.
german isnt chinese and its just a language jst as english an even though not everybody can read it it's perfectly legit to use it don't you think ? if you want to understand it , learn it ...
Didnt have quiet notion what kind of public he had, but now seeing this video, mannnnnnnnnnnn, where are the mennnnnnnnnnnn???? I can only see ordinary middle age girls in her 30s clapping hands. Ive seen some live vids here from Kelly Family back then when they were together and you can cleary see and notice theres almost as many women as there is men in the gig, but here I could only count 1 or 2 who were probably somebody's husband or boyfriend who got pissed to be left home alone. Jesus, bring some men here, I totally do not see his kind of music as a type of music aimed to women, actually it seems at least in america theres quiet male enthusiasts of this country/folk music style, I dont know about Europe though.
Here in Germany men often have some problems with Kelly music. I, as a fan since 1989, don' t know why and I can't understand it. But it' s the same in my family. My brother and father become strange when they hear anything about The Kelly Family. It' s the same with ABBA. *rolleyes* "My" men say those bands are some kind of female bands. I' ll never understand that. ;-)
Such a poor rendition of a somber song, this wasn't a song of joy but of sadness... and that terrible caricature of the Irish is on display with the way the word Green is sung...
+theprofreshonal I cannot disagree more about the joy vs sadness part. I think that The Wearing of The Green can be interpreted both ways, both with it's proud defiance illustrated through lines like these: "When the law can stop the blades of grass from growing as they grow.. And when the leaves, in Summer time, their verdure does not show.. Then, I will change the color I wear in my cabbeen: But, till that day, plaze God! I'll stick to the Wearing of the Green!" "And since the color we must wear, is England's cruel red, Ould Ireland's sons will ne'er forget the blood that they have shed.. Then take the Shamrock from your hat, and cast it on the sod: It will take root, and flourish still, tho' under foot 'tis trod." And it's sadness in stanzas like this one: "Oh! I met with Napper Tandy, and he took me by the hand, And he says: How is Poor Ould Ireland, and does she stand? She's the most distressed Country that ever I have seen: For, they are hanging men and women for the Wearing of the Green!"
It may be a problem when you're singing so jubilantly that they are hanging men & women for the wearing of the green. Maybe its just poor singing, but the feeling just isn't there its like screaming, that makes the dropkick murphys sound like classical musicians. It seems so poorly executed and demeaning towards the Irish, the way this song is played & treated in this video. Listen to an earlier version by John McCormack to get a sense of the somberness and dignity that should be attributed to a song such as this.
I don't really understand you. Please explain it to me. I'm German and I always loved the Kelly Family and their members very much. They have always sung "Wearing of the Green" in a joyful way and we all loved it.
