- The most impressive display of equestrian pageantry in Africa -- the Kano, Nigeria, Hawan Daushe pageantry which stands out as an impressive Hausa performing art. This portion (day 2 of the entire pageantry) is part of a larger documentary titled Equestrian Elegance - The Hawan Sallah Pageantry of Kano (2009, produced by Abdalla Uba Adamu). Full details of the pageantry is given in a sister site, www.kanodurbar.com. Abdalla Uba Adamu
so impressive .it reminds me of when i was a small boy how i was so eager for the sallah to come so that we can visit our major town Gombe to witness the hawan sallah. a historical piece for the younger once . keep it up kanawa
so great to see, i have cine films of the emirs procession through kano in the 1950's. yeah, sorry, ex colonial, but have to say on behalf of my grandfather as an ex resident and horseman how thrilled he would have been. great tradition, great salute and beautiful horses...blessings of the one be upon you and yours is the heartfelt wish of the DALE family.
Allah ya jikan Sarki. Sarauta ta tafi. I always feel emotional during Sallah as long as I'm not in Kano.
I really enjoyed it, but I was thinking may if the origin of the "Hawan daushe" was included in the introduction (why and how it stated) it would have give the viewer a more deeper idea behind the festival itself. Putting all the main aspects of the festival in a 17:41 minutes is what I personally like.
It'd only make it more pedantic. The idea is to enable the viewer to focus attention on the pageantry -- the music, colors, people and atmosphere. Thanks for your comments.
