  • The next phase in forging the railing is to produce the aspen tree branch which will set in the middle of the longest rail. Using the power hammer I am able to forge aggressively and accurately taking this large stock down into a taper, using the square octagon round technique I a good part of my day forging.

    Rory I love that you left the forging sounds in when you overlaid the music! There's something beautiful about the sound of the hammer and the power hammer. As always, you're enjoyable to watch, thanks for your time to bring us along on these videos!

    Another good one Sensei. I have to say, I was very impressed by the work at the powerhammer with the bent piece.

    The storytelling is getting much better Rory. But I bet a lot of work went into that film eh? The Direstaesque speeded up soundtrack was great. 'Close enough for the girls I used to date' indeed!

    That last shot was pretty cool. I liked the delay from seeing the hammer hit, then hearing it hit, and then seeing it hit again on the view screen from the camera. Almost musical, it was like a triplet in the middle of the bar that made up the entire cycle.

    Haven't seen this style of hot cut before. Cool. any specific advantages?

    • @GrumpysWorkshop
      @GrumpysWorkshop 5 лет назад +4

      More of a butcher than a hotcut, but still works the same. The difference is it imparts a bevel on one side and sharp corner on the other. I'm assuming he wants a bevel on the branch so he can weld it on. A sharper hotcut will go through faster, but then he'd have to forge that bevel in another step.

      Marcel Teugels i prefer the butcher. And it’s D2 which is hella hard and was a drop cut. Put a shank on it and done

      Assuming it puts a steeper taper on the offcut

    Random question...does the forge fuel affect the chemistry of the steel? I was thinking coal vs. gas. I'm relating this to iron production in a blast furnace where coke is the main source of carbon not strictly fuel.
