Another thing is that Batman’s mythos HAS fantastical elements. It’s part of the character as well. It’s just that those more fantastical elements are adapted to fit his tone. Comics’ clay face, Killer Croc, Poison Ivy. These are things that can introduce those elements to the Batman universe first, to make the transition a little more seamless.
I think considering we have a really young Batman in The Batman, you can lean into the aspect of Batman’s character of his world and his mission getting increasingly complex, as he goes from fighting thugs to real villains (riddler, joker) to genuine monsters.

The Batman was not that grounded. Mostly Gotham is fantastical as hell in that movie i don't care what people say it could fit perfectly.
